Sorry if I missed it somewhere but what does everyone think of Arcane Repeater on the Runebearer? Is he still getting that? I was finally able to get into the CID forums and this jumped right out to me. Outside of them putting Mulg back at his rightful place of 13 strength lol and giving the longriders 2in reach again, I think this might be my favorite change. So many of our locks are severely handicapped by their tiny control ranges. What does this mean for Grim1, Madrak2, or Horgle! It pretty much helps every single one of our casters go up a notch(especially since he would probably already be taken)!
Thoughts? Did I miss something?

I actually threw a KC list together that I really enjoyed last week:
Grim 2 Runebearer Bomber Storm Troll Pyre Troll 2x Fire Eaters War Wagon Min Sluggers 2x Thumper Braylen Wanderheart Max Burrowers Fell Caller
(To the OP, I'm really wanting to put bone grinders in!) This list was definitely not optimized, I'm sure I could find better ways to spend the free points than Wanderheart and a Fell caller(although both came in handy). I went up against Cygnar with Siege and was really worried about getting shot off the table between a firefly, stormwall, cyclone and Charger but even on the turn that he rolled max on every single variable shot roll, I had enough left to take out the stormwall and a ironclad from range and severely wound the cyclone. I probably got lucky on the stormwall because he didn't have arcane shield on it but I'm confident that I could have done it and sacrificed taking out the ironclad. I love getting to ignore models for LoS with this list! I was actually surprised how well the burrowers did. I didn't bother to burrow and just moved forward and dug in. Other than max lightning generators hitting them, they were quite the nuisance for my opponent to remove. They are still a bit expensive for my taste but I will probably at least give them a couple more chances on the table. I love the new sluggers. Even with two shot off the table right away, the one left over earned their points. I didn't even roll max shots each turn lol.
All in all, not a broken list but it made me feel like I had lots of options all game. I rolled slightly high on my toughs(40% or so) but I think even then I could have handled losing more. Might be tough if you run into a really high armor list though.

They do not have long leash. The scarsfell lost it in the nerfing of Una 2. Well that's what I get for no longer having a full time Circle player in my meta... lol

Not to rain on the night troll idea but... Khador doesn't have it, Circle doesn't have it, Mercs/Minions don't have it, CoC doesn't have it, Protectorate doesn't have it, Ret doesn't have it... Cryx, Cygnar, Grymkin and Legion are the only ones that do... Circle has griffins.

My point wasn't really how powerful he was, I think he is quite powerful if Cygnar players are willing to think outside the box and commit to him like our local guy has.
What I was trying to say is that although Doomie2 can kind of match his straight threat, I don't think he brings the mind games as much. I suppose one's opponent has to be careful not to leave a line of guys that you can surf to a caster or something... Just really lamenting the feeling that trolls seem to be straightforward to play against. We aren't really going to surprise a lot of people with what we can do.

Hordes needs to be looked at. If I can lose a beast for a whole turn because of 1 extra fury, I think that a point or two reduction is not asking too much. Either have the stats on par or the points, but having them be straight up worse in both categories makes it an uphill battle.
I agree one of our biggest problems is predictability. People don't have to do mental gymnastics against trolls. I'll give an example, last night I played Jarl(I know, I know) into the new Kraye. Neither of us were playing what would be considered typical lists but what I want to focus on is the combination of Brickhouse with admonition and force hold with Old Rowdy with arcane shield following close behind. My opponent also had a minuteman with countermeasure running around. Lets start with Brickhouse, horsepower + reposition give it an extra 8 inches of movement to get in the perfect spot for forcehold. Given our dearth of reach heavies. If he can get within 2 inches of your heavies its very hard to remove him. Carapace makes shooting him on the way in extremely difficult. Admonition means that if I am actually able to get a heavy on him he can walk away, keeping in mind that Rowdy is lurking as well. He's engaged so trying to knock him down with Runeshapers would have been extremely difficult even with puppet strings and he knows I only have a roughly 6.5 inch threat for trembler. This example isn't trying to make the combination sound broken and kudos to my opponent for figuring it out and playing out of theme, my point is that I spent and extraordinarily long time trying to figure out how to beat this combination. His out of normal activation movements meant it was extremely hard for me to determine all the possible places he could choose to move to. His possible linear threat meant I had to try to hide my models behind each other(he has pathfinder so pretty hard to hide behind most terrain) which meant I had horrible order of activation issues(which is compounded by our support style of play). I just don't feel like trolls force people to "go in the tank" like others do, outside of "hey can you crack my armor". Borka2 is probably the closest but hamstrung by that awful fury stat.

Trollock, I totally agree with your comment about treating the games like simulations of losing list chicken in a tournament. I have run into so many lists lately that seem to completely shut down what I built the list to do. But in more than half, I've then figured out a second strategy I hadn't thought of before that my list could pull off. That didn't lead to a lot of winning but it made the game interesting and with more practice, as I tend to switch lists every casual game, and a little luck would lead to more victories.

I have to agree on runeshapers. They are kind of fun in casual games but other than when I get 10 toughs in a row(steady) they just seem so lackluster in tournament games. If they could still charge and knockdown I might change my mind.
I have only played Horgle2 in BoH and KK. I think he's meh in BoH but KK really seems to be work well. The upkeeps are tough but I'm used to playing Cygnar's 6 focus casters so its a lot the same. At least he has a good nuke for the runebearer lol.

I like it too that they can be in this theme. It is very fluffy and all... The fact that they are unplayable garbage is the problem. Even in Kingmaker, where they get AMBUSH and Feigh Death most ppl do not bring them. Seriously... Ambush has to be one of the most powerful rules a unit can have, and even with that, AND being friendly faction in mercs (obviously) they are not regularly seen. That unit needs more things. If it was SPD 6 and ARM 16 (like before) id be interested maybe. Losing the bonkers 4+ tough i can maybe live with, since that is almost gone from the game, but having them be slow AND low arm was not a good call... Yeah they probably need a points reduction but at least in this theme list they will be FF so you can get them to arm 17 and our spells will work on them. Boomhowler still has some neat tricks and its nice having those extra POW 12 ranged attacks(even if their RAT is horrible).

I feel like Gunny runs this better with guided fire. You would get more mileage on the boosts, but to me Fury 8(can spread them out more), soothing song, and re-roles on those critical misses(or fishing for a crit) might outweigh that. I guess you would have to figure in snipe and rock wall versus befuddle, misfortune, and starcrossed then as well. Both make for interesting game play.

I cannot like this enough! Not just one 2" weapon, but two! Under the new Northkin theme with Borka2, he can reach P+S 22 with rage and new elder! With Ragnor P+S 23; rage, pulverizer, stone! Just hope he's not speed 4 lol. The new elder won't give it a strength increase, its warriors only unless I missed something.
