Hi everyone.
I decided to create a thread where i could post some lists that i have put together but maybe not played overly much yet. I figured id talk a bit about each list and what my thought was with it. The disposition of the thread got out of hand though, and i think ill have to ask a moderator to remove some posts, but ill get right on filling in some thing. This is not only for you guys, but it is to help me to structure my list building a bit more. I have produced a vast number of lists in war room, and most of them will never actually get played, but they might be fun thought exercises, and perhaps some one wants to pick one up and try and play it or something similar.
Id love to have discussions about any and all lists in here. Perhaps you guys have some nice insights that i have missed!

Borka 1 I played him a bit back when WW was the dreaded boogeyman that rampaged across the meta. Arcane Ward allows you to play a King against him, and they will have trouble with that. A king that tramples for free and quite far on the feat turn will solve that match up in a better way than many other casters. Currently though, i have no interesting tech to share here...
Borka 2 Not interested...
Calandra 1 This is one of my favorite casters of all times. Right now I feel like she "has to" play in PoD like so many other casters, and i have a list that i have liked so far.
List 1: PoD | List 2: Def skew! |
---|
Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia
(Calandra 1) Calandra Truthsayer [+27] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Trollkin Runebearer [0] Northkin Shaman [0] Northkin Shaman [0] Troll Whelps [4] Dhunian Knot [6] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] | Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia
(Calandra 1) Calandra Truthsayer [+27] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Sea King [42] - Trollkin Runebearer [0] Northkin Shaman [0] Northkin Shaman [0] Troll Whelps [0] |
List 1: The theory is pretty simple. The Bombers are usually the front line. Either the opponent goes in to try and kill them in melee (often failing due to whelps and Star Crossed) or they hang back, in which case the Bombers to work with their guns. The EBDT is usually your contesting piece and the Maulers will murder what ever tried to kill the Bombers. You want to play this list against lots of heavies. Befuddle is amazing for piece trading and so are your beasts in general since it usually takes 2 heavies to down one of yours. Janissa may be awesome to disengage the bombers, but i have not tried it out.
List 2: This army had to be posted both because it contains no stone (always interesting) and because it contains a Sea King (very rare). Reports say that this may be a legit army, but i have yet to test it out. The obvious idea is to use the EBDTs with the animus of the SK to be your front line, and then have the Mauler and SK kill what ever goes in on the EBDTs. Having several DEF 14 beasts as your front line is really tough to punch through in melee, and a lot of shooting is elemental based and thus ineffective. Obviously, the low volume of attacks means that you do not want to play swarms of infantry, but on the other hand, infantry simply do not kill DEF 14 beasts (15 with whelps) under star crossed, so maybe you can grind it out over several turns. I simply have to try this out some time
Doomshaper 1
Doomshaper 2
Doomshaper 3
Grim 1 I played him yesterday in a "fair and balanced" list in a casual game, but i had to force myself to do it. Turned out that i had a good match up though, cause he brought lots of melee and very little shooting. Still, I just do not see a place for him in the meta. I do not think his assassination is strong enough (much weaker than Grissel 2) to warrant playing him. I do have one "crazy" list though that relies on shooting and more shooting. This may become viable in SR2017 where it is more difficult to win on scenario, because of how defensive the list is.
Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia
(Grim 1) Grim Angus [+29] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Glacier King [35] - Glacier King [35] Janissa Stonetide [0] Troll Whelps [0] Troll Whelps [0] Dhunian Knot [6] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6] - Stone Scribe Elder [3]
To nobody's great surprise, it is a PoD list. You have incredible shooting, and thanks to Grims feat and Marked for Death and other abilities to lower DEF, you can probably shoot down enough infantry for it to matter before they get stuck in against your Kings in melee. The feat tries to buy you a turn of shooting, and even though you do not have Rage, you have two kings that can punch at POW 20, and if you soften things up with shooting, this can probably handle all but the most egregious ARM skews. You will have to give up scenario points though probably against hardier casters, but remember that you still have 2 GKs, a Bomber and Grim to threaten assassination. It may be dangerous to step up to the flag for an enemy caster.
I still am not thrilled about the list, but it is probably playable at least. Maybe some one else is interested... This could perhaps work in a 2 list pairing where you present 2 ARM skews and thus try to figure out what your opponent is about to drop, and drop the list that counters his list the best.
Grim 2
Grissel 1 Much maligned since she basically no longer has a feat but she is really good at making one thing kill another thing. In a world of piece trading, this may be better than it looks on the surface.
Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia
(Grissel 1) Grissel Bloodsong, Fell Caller [+29] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Night Troll [7] - Night Troll [7] - Night Troll [7] - Slag Troll [10] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(4)] Janissa Stonetide [0(4)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6] - Stone Scribe Elder [3]
This list focuses on making your light beasts murder a heavy. A night troll that gets a free charge and an extra attack and Rage and Stone Strength will ALMOST kill an ARM 20 heavy. That is where the Bomber comes in. A boosted POW 16 will put a large enough dent in most things that a Night Troll will actually kill it. With 8 beasts in total, this list MAY be able to trade well against many other lists. You do NOT want to send in your heavy hitters against a front line of 7 point stealth models just to be absolutely destroyed by the heavies behind. I have only played the list (or a very similar one) once, but it seemed to work pretty well. It is not ideal against an infantry swarm, but the night trolls could be pretty good in to that too with 1" reach and lots of attacks.
Grissel 2
Gunnbjorn 1 Gunnbjorn is a caster that i actually think is quite high skill cap. The Rock Wall is incredible in so many situations, not only for cover, but for

List 1: This is a list with incredible shooting that wants to hang back and shoot a while and then scrum it out in melee for an attrition win. I have played it a bit and it is very solid. As always with PoD you can season to taste with the solos. I went with a maxed stone with no UA, cause i think that it is more valuable to have a bigger potential aura than the utility of the elder. Continous effects, stealth and incorporeal are issues that i can handle in other ways. I have played it with only a min stone and an extra solo (whelps?) instead too, but the bubble becomes so damned small... This list wants to cast Guided Fire, and Rock Wall is always useful, especially with the EBDT around. At effective 14/22 it is VERY tough to kill
List 2: This is a very different list. This is more of a melee list that wants to go across the table and fight what ever is there. You have low threat ranges, so you will most likely have to accept the alpha, but the EBDTs help you there. They can screen other things from melee, and with the feat you have a whole round of no shooting. Dozer and the Swamp troll are there to get at the creamy center of the opposing army, like support solos, or possibly something like an agonizer. This list is completely untested, so it may be garbage, but the idea is to get in their face and grind it out as soon as possible. You still have reasonable shooting, and that can help you clear lanes, or soften up a sturdy target so that your EBDTs can scrap it.
List 3: I figured i at least had to try and make a BoH list. The idea is to use the extra deployment, and the fast units to get up the board fast and grind it out (hmmm... I have heard this before...). The difference is that you use more units. Fennblades are good against infantry, and Gunnbjorn can deliver them like no one else. Having them cower behind a wall on turn 1 if the opponents have only a few long ranged guns (like Widowmakers) can let you save the feat another turn, so you feat on turn 3 if you go first. This too, is an untested list that may or may not stink, but YOU might want to give it a spin
Jarl 1 (no, i will not call him "Skuld 1")
Madrak 1
Madrak 2
Madrak 3 I have had a lot of success with this guy for some reason. Not sure i like him overly much, but he is definitely better on the table than on paper. I have several different lists with him, and ill share a few. Madrak seems to have one "super power" and that is "have more stuff". By not taking a Kriel Stone, the lists you build often feel a lot better than your normal lists do on paper. Not relying on a squishy kriel stone against cygnar (with electro leaps that you can not self sac) is also underrated.
List 1: PoD Madness! | List 2: BoH anti shooting |
---|
Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia
(Madrak 3) Madrak, Great Chieftain [+29] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Glacier King [35] - Glacier King [35] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(4)] Northkin Shaman [0(4)] Northkin Shaman [0(4)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Troll Whelps [4]
| Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Band of Heroes
(Madrak 3) Madrak, Great Chieftain [+29] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [15] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Stone Scribe Chronicler [4] Trollkin Fennblades (max) [15] - Fennblade Officer and Drummer [5] Trollkin Warders (min) [10] Trollkin Warders (min) [10]
|
List 1: This abuses the fact that Madrak has his own Kriel Stone to take 100 points of beasts and get 16 free points, as well as not having to bring 6 points of Kriel Stone. You play the Kings defensively and focus on shooting down and pushing back things for as long as possible. This works wonderfully against Cygnar, since you can ignore their +2-3 ARM from spells and do serious work against for example Storm lances before they get to do anything to you. Rebuke is also super good against infantry who wants to duke it out in melee. Your heavies are basically decoys and could be other beasts if you wanted. Play them aggressively and try and trade them for the opponents heavies, so that you end up with 2 Kings and they have no heavies left. Scenario is a problem, so be aware and use the shamans, whelps and heavies to keep you from losing until attrition is won. This list is brutal since it has sooo much stuff.
You basically do not have a feat in this list, but it works pretty well anyway. Use the feat on the turn they are going for the last ditch assassination and you have 4+ tough and no knockdown on Madrak at least.
List 2: This is also an anti cygnar list in essence. Madrak has good tools against them in spell piercer and rebuke, and this list uses the feat to pretty great effect. The theory is that you jam the Fennblades down the opponents throat by protecting them with the feat and possibly the shield guards. Once you are stuck in there you punch them in the face until they yield. A very troll style list! The Battle Group could be almost anything. I went with 4 heavies just because chewing through 4 heavies after those fennblades, and with 7 shield guards is unfair to the opponent. You could go shooting or lights or a king or what ever. Only played the list once, so i can not promise you anything .

Why would you call Jarl, Skuld 1? You don't call the other casters - Ironforge 1 Ironforge 2, Ironforge 3 - Angus 1, Angus 2 - Bloodsong 1, Bloodsong 2 - Skysplitter 1 Basically we use first names for every caster apart from Doomy and that's just because it sounds better It would be hilarious if that Sea King 3 EBDT list was legit

So i really like my calandra general build Calandra Bomber Mauler Bouncer Fell Caller Chronicler Gobber chef Kreilstone min with elder Fenblades with ua Sluggers x2 That looks like a fine general list. Perhaps a bit light on the ARM crack for my taste, but that is what you have your other list for i guess. That is truly the beauty of Calandra, that she can play with almost anything and make it look good I added 3 lists for Gunnbjorn in the first post

Nice!
How is the fury management on that Calandra list with double bombers? I imagine it running hot. I also think the bombers up front is particularly interesting. Do you find people running up to jam them?

Do you find people running up to jam them? Well, that is what whelps are for! People try to jam the bombers if they have the units for it, and i try to prevent it by shooting said units down, and dislodge the bombers with my other heavies. Also, if you are lucky, you can dodge back with one of the bombers. Janissa is probably a good idea in this list, to clear off a bomber, but i hadn't thought of that when i built the list, and now i am off on other projects

I know befuddle is nice, especially on Callandra's feat turn, but Janissa's anti jam is really good.
Alternatively and I apologise for being "Wacky" Swap one of the maulers for an Impaler + Janissa. Impalers hit pretty hard and it's easy to fish for crits with Dhunian Knot and Calandra's toolkit. Also offers you some control.

I forget that Calandra has 8 fury, so she can handle a bomber a turn herself even banking a few. I'm so not used to that!! I saw two bombers and one whelps unit and couldn't imagine it. Lol
When considering Janissa for that list, what would you change up? Drop the Shamans and go Janissa and max stone maybe?
