Hi guys!
I recently started playing a bit of Circle and i brought a used Circle army. I decided to make my own paint scheme though and will slowly update (or paint the unpainted models) the old models to this new scheme. Im really in to the whole Wolds-thing and will focus on those guys. They will be fairly traditional, but i will not paint as much "glow" as many do. Many many runes will be left "stone colored" and ill focus on just a couple of glow effects on each model.
For the humans though i went with something completely different. Apparently my Circle dudes have purple skin. I do not care at all if they are regular humans in the fluff or what ever, but mine have purple skin and yellow eyes with no pupils. I will also not paint the "circle armor" in the traditional way (green/gold) but will paint the whole thing a leather color, and call it embossing. Painting details in metallic colors is one of my least favorite things, and i simply wont do it!
On to some pictures!
The first model i painted was a Woldwyrd. The stone did not turn out quite as i wanted, and the turquoise "glow" wasnt spectacular either. It is possible that ill re-do the glow in a different color. Im experimenting on other models right now. The stone color will not be this version either, but you can see the final version on the Fulcrum later on. The rest is pretty much where i want it though

I like the colour scheme, and that base is fantastic.
I think the problem with the glow isn't the colour, it's the way you've painted the light spill: there's no blending between the light colour and the underlying colour. I think pushing the contrast (especially brightening the center) on the glowing orb itself would help too, although that might just be the photos not showing off the true contrast very well. Honestly thought I suspect that trying to do OSL when the underlying surface colour is relatively bright, like your bone colour, is probably always going to be harder than trying to paint a glow against a darker colour.

Next model was the Fulcrum. This is way closer to how i want the scheme, though this model has no glow, so i wont have to do it again if i decide to switch. Ill write down some recipes for the colors used, though this is mostly for my own benefit, so i can replicate them later on! StoneStonewall gray (V) -> mix of Black and Sepia wash 2:1(V)-> Terminatus Stone (C)
Wood Umbral Umber (PP) -> Terminatus Stone -> Black/Sepia wash -> Reikland Fleshshade (C)
Rope Rucksack Tan (PP) -> Terminatus stone -> Black/Sepia wash -> Sepia Wash -> Lamenters Yellow (C)
Cloth Coal Black (PP) -> mix of Gnarls Green (PP) and Foul Green (V) -> Glaze half the highlight with Coal Black -> Mix of Black and Green Wash (V) Stitching in Hawk Turquoise (CdA)
Skin Stonewall Gray (V) -> Druchii violet (C)
Gold Glorious Gold (V) + silver -> Strong Tone (TAP) -> Reikland Fleshshade (some) -> Hawk Turquoise (CdA)
Leather Bootstrap Leather (PP) -> mix of Bootsrap and Tanned Flesh (TAP) -> Strong Tone (TAP) -> Reikland Flesh (C)
Eyes Moldy Ocre (PP)
Glow Hawk Turquoise (CdA) + white

The Fulcrum looks great, I love the gemstones! Just one minor suggestion: maybe try tinting some of the different pieces in slightly different colours? The model is large enough that, despite the detail, it looks a touch uniform when all the stone is coloured exactly the same.

The purple skin gives them an alien appearance, I think in a good way. The stone and gems are looking good.

Yeah, that was the idea to begin with but then i just wanted to finish the damned thing and skipped it hehe

Wow, those fulcrum gems are spectacular! Thanks man. I waffled a LOT on what to do with them and re-did them a couple of times. Havent painted gems like this in years and years and needed to find my stride. I could probably do them better now, abd WAY faster hehe.

Looking really good so far! What do you use for the flowers on the base?

Looking really good so far! What do you use for the flowers on the base? The ivy is from the armypainter, but the tufts and flowers are from solid ground studios. I really like them a lot cause they feel really well crafted compared to for example the army painter.

I've not seen solid ground studios before. Pretty darn cool. Those snowy tufts are especially appealing, given my current projects.

Finally some progress has been made! I have painted the three Woldwardens I have. These three guys had been lovingly converted and based by the guy i brought my army from, but they had never been painted. I used the same techniques on them as on the Fulcrum, though these guys had some glow effects added. The glow effects did not turn out as well as i had hoped though. Painting glows in indentations was more difficult than i had expected, but they do look pretty good at table top range.
Here are a bunch of pics since i think the conversions (again, not done by me) deserve some extra attention. Note that i changed the front arc markings compared to earlier. I will use this technique for the whole army, because i like to have a nice little spot color to tie the army together (as you might have guessed from my troll and merc bases) but i did not want to go full crazy mode and do runes for this army. I think this is a neat compromise.
