I always love the insults ^-^ keep them coming.
Masters of War has no access to real ranged weaponry outside minions, casters, and the extoller soulward (if he counts). Shooting it off the table with MoW is a NON issue since you won't be shooting at it x.x; As for the "pedigree" our average player is rather upper tier in normal metas as our top players represented the US this year and are already accumulating the points to do so again.
I never mention maneuvering to kill the cannons, only that Mak2 double kitty can outmaneuver GF in general. Under Dash, they are spd 9, reach 2, with 3 additional inches on a normal charge or 5 inches on a pounce. That's a normal threat of 14. If you plan on pouncing, you can give them 2 extra inches from the Tycom, making them spd 11 + 5 inch pounce, giving them a boosted damage roll attack of 16.5 inches while toughed from a willbreaker and having 3 stay deaths available on Mak2 if the terrain is favorable to bring her forward. After the 16.5, you can also do a normal lance attack at pow 12 that reaches 18 inches, if it's necessary. You can also play to engage and simply run them 18 inches while parried with a 20 inch engagement range, not that I'd recommend sacrificing a whole unit of cats just to give you a free turn of advancement. In my games against cryx using Mak2 double kitty, all of my losses have been due to scenario. All of my wins have been on assassination. When I face ghost fleet with Imperial Warhost, our players are smart enough to place medium or large based models in the back of their spam, negating trample attacks.
Against skilled players, GF is considered "ok" and no longer a boogyman list, even when you have Denny in charge. After learning how annoying enemy upkeep spells can be, our meta has been using a lot more nullification models, turning them into a non-issue unless you feel like leaving your caster on low focus/fury every turn, which is almost an instant assassination in our meta. The boogyman lists that we've been facing is more Dark Host, which is a whole nother beast. It allows access to more models and more caster combinations, an important fact when you take in the new rules about "active duty" casters.
As for Drake spam, I recommend against it if you are attempting to play competitively. The uses of it drops substantially when facing off against the key lists of other factions, and it's costly (IRL money) to buy that many drakes for a list you'll only use a few times... ever.
