Occasionally I see an OoA list using Archangels, usually with Abby1, that looks original and good enough to play. Thrones seem decent enough too to not play PT. But... Again, I'll just play a fully functional faction that doesn't require me to buy almost entirely new models from my mk2 collection. All my money goes to Skorne, and has been for the last couple years.

I sort of gave up on playing Legion, and largely even thinking about Legion. Once everything became "Primal Terrors, don't even bother to try anything else" I entirely lost interest. I've moved onto factions with more than one functional theme.
But by all means, don't let me stop you. Just explaining why I haven't said much and to larger degree why I think everyone stopped posting much: Primal Terrors is so much better than everything else and yet so one dimensional there just isn't much to talk about.

I've seen this list. It is typically run with 2 turtles. Because that's basically better than every other option.

Ok, I see your points. I think Grievous Wounds will become more accessible if they ever do it, but even if not I still think it wouldn't be nearly as necessary where all of your Nephilim have Gang and you can run Weaponmaster swordsmen.
As for the Bloodseer, that's a bit more of a headache. Honestly I find good ability to steal the animii of other friendly beasts largely pointless in any theme. It's ok with an Archangel or Seraph or Naga, sometimes with a Carni, but usually the points in those lists are so tight because of the cost of Legion beasts you aren't really using Bloodseers much anyway. I always thought their best ability was Telemetry, as it turns on so many offensive infantry spells like Ice Cage, Puppet Master, etc.

I like how this approach to the beastmistress solves the forsaken problem in a fluffy way. It doesn't solve the other issues this theme has though; seers, soldiers, zuriel and swordmen (ie warlord) still pay for abilities that won't come into play. But it should be part of the theme I agree. ? What abilities do they have that won't come into play? I don't think I know what you mean.

I suspect that if they really want to make CotD work, it needs to meet two milestones:
1. Encourage an all Nephilim army. 2. Encourage an all Nyss army.
So I think the way to do it is to take a queue from Irregulars:
1. Theme benefit: Nyss Beast Mistresses may include light Nephilim war beasts in the battlegroup. 2. For every 30 points of Blighted Nyss and Nephilim warbeasts in the army, you get a free solo or lesser Warbeast. 3. While controlled by a friendly Beast Mistress, Nephilim war beasts gain Gang. 4. Some minor side benefit like +1 to go first or whatever
Same restrictions on Battle group and unit selection as exist today.
Want to run an all Nyss force? No problem!
Want to run a Nephilim force? No problem! You now have the rules and fury management to do so without flailing ineptly.
Want to emphasize the synergy and intelligence of Nephilim as hybrids of both Nyss and Blighted dragonflesh golems? That works too!
The list still has severe restrictions in terms of model selection so it doesn't fall into the trap that Irregulars set up for itself.
After that, you just need to make Nyss Archers not stink and Nyss artillery to not stink and you have yourself a theme where everything is functional and you'll get tons of models that never see daylight hitting the table again.
But instead, they'll make yet another Cryx theme.

I must have done something wrong. I played the list Challenger mentioned against my brother in law (with small changes post-CID; he was playing my wife's Circle) and pulled out a turn 2 assassination with the Desert Hydra. It might be worse that Skorne is actually his army. First turn I ran it up so that with 9" deployment and 14" run, it was 23" up the board. At which point we were both going 'how TF do you stop this?'. Next turn, I popped X2's feat and trampled forwards through a forest, gain LOS to his 'caster. Five 8" sprays later, the caster was a little puddle. That can't be right, can it? I guess he could've sacrificed more to stop it, but I think I still would've been way up on attrition. You can't trample through the forest and spray afterwards. In order to perform a power attack, you must sacrifice your initial combat attacks, which means you sacrifice each head's attack. You also can't buy additional ranged attacks after, so unless there are targets in melee range, there's nothing left for a warbeast to do after trampling. Unless it has Dual Attack (giving you an initial melee AND ranged attacks, allowing you to sacrifice the initial melee attacks to trample, then use your initial ranged attacks after that). Which the Hydra does not have.

Unit combat resolution takes a long time compared to other systems, even though unit sizes are relatively the same. The biggest problem to surmount is the way dice are rolled for an attack resolution. It's difficult to roll large groups of 2d6s...

Turtles are crazy good with Morgul1 (anyone, really). Under his feat very few things can hurt them and they are a great bunker for him to hide behind. Plus his spell list and low fury really only supports a few beasts before he has to tap out.

Morgul2 is Best, morgul1 is weakest.
I think the biggest issue for Morgul1 is that he just doesn't have a compelling reason to play him over our other casters. But he can still function well.

Would you guys like a format where you play 50-point games but you have +10 warjack/warbeast points? Why? Just to incentivize smaller games with larger Battle groups? Possible concern: +10 warjack points would allow most casters to take a Colossal without dipping into the points allowed for infantry. Most infantry casters usually only want 1 Jack anyway, so this might benefit those casters more than you intended.

I love the way the army looks so I bought in. First list I came up with was: Xerxis -Tiberion -Krea Supreme Guardian Ancestral Guardian Ancestral Guardian Novititate Novititate Novititate Abidan Hakaar Immortals with Advocate Immortals with Advocate Immortals with Advocate So, that list feels good to me, where I struggle is what other casters and what are their beasts: Obvious choices: Zaal and Zaal2 I was toying around with the idea of 2x cannonners with these guys. I've got more than enough melee output with the army, but I am missing quality ranged attacks. Some dark horse casters, i'd like to try: Rasheth Morghul3 Hexeris Would love to hear suggestions. Rasheth is great in Exalted. Friendly dudes he kills by channeling through them still provide souls, and his feat really boosts Immortals a lot.

Closest analog is Breath of Corruption.
Others mechanics that are similar (in that they discourage entering an area):
Artifice of Deviation Burning Ash Countercharge Counterblast

Not tactics type game, but grand strategy. The table top already handles tactics really well. I meant like a game simulating troop movements and battles along the Khadoran border, for example. Combat at an epic scale, like Warhammer Armageddon. All the stuff the table top is bad at or doesn't even touch.

Actually, this sort of makes me wonder: for a game about all it war between many large nations, there's surprisingly little available to play this "setting" on a grand scale. I'm very surprised there isn't a boardgame or computer game that lets you do strategy in the Iron Kingdoms on a grand scale.
Unique aspects: Jacks, beasts, dragons, trains, warcasters...
It's sad to me that therec isn't something like this. Even if it was just a simple hex based game like Slitherine often makes.
