I agree with much of what's been said: I miss the fluff. The very early days of a business driven largely by artists and authors was great. I do, however, also understand the (inevitable?) business model away from slow- turnover printed books of crunch + fluff, toward frequent e-changes (CID). The latter has been valuable in its own way. :/
Ironically, Privateer *Press is the company's name... Press (noun): PUBLISHER "a business that prints and produces books or other printed material" - Cambridge University Press
On their YouTube channel, Seacat did say he wasn't at liberty to say what's coming down the pike as far as fluff but it felt like there was something in the works. I hope it's substantial.

Alrighty, the partly scratch-built Siege/ Assault Chariot starts to take shape! It'll look better - more uniform - when primed. I need to add an impression-molded Khador symbol or two. The side shields swing back and forth and I'm hoping the main gun will rotate slightly when done. Otherwise not as interactive as the Siege Crawler I largely scratch-built (in another thread).

As I was slowly working on Sorscha and Dragos this past weekend, a fit of inspiration overtook me and I decided to start a scratch-built / kit-bashed Siege (Assault) Chariot. I had the horses and axles from an old Gun Carriage, so I started scrounging for household items, from which this might take shape. The goal is not to duplicate but to create something new and similar. Stay tuned! Bush-league building materials: - Plastic Easter eggs - Floor tile samples (free) from Home Depot / Lowes - Specialty LEGO - Food packaing - Blue foam - Jewelry bits - Electronic bits harvested from circuit boards - Plastic gems (as rivets) - Metal tubing - Ink pen parts - Tiny screws (dollar store repair kit)

It's always ice to sprinkle in a few puns. Some people might call you a special snowflake, but you don't need to get hot under the collar about that! Just stay frosty and tell them to chill out. And hey, if they give you the cold shoulder for that, forget them and come hang with us cool kids. Icy what you did there. But we'd better freeze this discussion before the thread snowballs into a pun-fest. Got to get back to my glacial painting pace...

Well, the bases on Dragos and Sorscha were painted without the blue-grey use on the Demo Corps, above. Its all straight, vivid blue paints. They're punchy but don't match exactly and look "artificial". Of course gunning for realism is funny when painting a hammer-wielding battle armor dude and an ice witch! They look cool enough (pun not intended) that I'll wait after painting the figures themselves to reassess.
Good observation on that reddish game mat affecting perception. I'll also see how the finished models look on other surfaces.
Dragos' base was bought, same as the Demo Corps, with added stir rod crystals like their leader. Sorscha is blue foam cut with a hot wire cutter with added thin, surface plastic (packaging material) I scrounged, broke apart and glued individually. The plastic adds strength to wimpy foam, from which she otherwise might break away. You can get the idea in the pics above.

I'm sad that with school approaching fast, I always greatly reduce my hobby time but here's an update for now... I reposed Drago - because I've not seen anyone do that yet - and added a viking-esque drinking horn to his belt (hard to see) and an extra warjack head strapped to his back. I'm leaving his head separate for painting due to his pose; I may even use a helmeted one that I have on my painting table. Looking at the pics, I need to lighten and de-saturate those very blue bases. I'm having an internal struggle between "art" and "realism".

This is all helpful. I've been browsing these sites for more info. Thanks for the leads. I didn't realize NOVA was that big. They don't seem to put WM/H front and center though. Still, very cool.

Hey all, I just saw a YouTube editorial on the relative lack of war gaming minis and related products at Gencon (compared to say, board games). www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAFOOKaLlY0 Having attended just on Sunday this year, after a two year hiatus, I tend to agree. I recall the days where PP more emphatically showcased their new hotness at GenCon - to which I can afford to drive. They had a very visible painting competition and display presence, etc. I used to eagerly take pics of it and post to the old PP forums. Now with Lock and Load, which I will doubtful attend in the foreseeable future, partly due to its added expense (flight) and remoteness for an Ohioan, not so much. I understand why PP would want to do their own thing out in their corner of the country, that's not my main point. It may have been the Sunday-only experience this time but my point is that there seemed to be less mini wargaming stuff in general. I'm wondering what people think about the best Midwest or eastern mid-sized con with tons of minis, paints, terrain, dioramas, etc. Adepticon? Is Warmachine Weekend good for hobbyists or casual/new players? Thanks!

I also think the Marauder looks best somehow. Not sure why!

This may be obvious but... an alternate approach might be to identify units with different but complimentary color schemes, or even differentiate individuals with something unique added to each base (different grass tufts, an enemy body part, etc.) or with a visible, minor conversion or paint mark on each dude man (a muzzle blast, single pauldron color, etc.)
I know these things require time or a little skill, but base writing also looks tough to pull off well, to me.

Thanks, man. Honestly, fur sculpting videos often didn't show the effect I was looking for but this one does show different methods. (I ended up just taking a bb-sized ball of GS and pressing on the shoulder armor, then I cut lines and inverted triangles in the flattened GS with an Exacto knife.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=28CjGEAfcRgThis one pointed out that you can always blob a bit more on top of previously sculpted fur for layering... www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrXtiIlzVgEThere are also helpful fur bits I used for reference here... maxmini.eu/medium-fur-pelts-bits---- For painting, I found this effect the best. It's not just a base coat + inking... www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtYFoY7Z700
