I know you can already have it outside of theme. But that's what i meant, there should be a benefit and a drawback to not building in theme. If you want pow 19 spears you don't get free solos, and vice versa. Still, the theme works for me just fine with Bethayne. So I've gotta give it some credit. But that's not remotely a competitive scene so your the judge on that front. I wouldn't mind it allowing them at all. More power to... us.

I think the draw back is that unless you're Big Papa Thags you only have 2 heavies in your list max. As an aside, what made mk2 EE in trolls so good?

As an aside, what made mk2 EE in trolls so good? Sheer quantity of free points, I believe.

Yeah pretty much, just quantity of points, number of boxes with decent arm was good too. Also everything shot.

Also, EE was specifically played with Calandra, because she had the Fury and kit to make it sing: she could dice-fix the hell out of that list, and make it absolutely terrifying, while also managing the massive amount of fury generated every turn, not to mention the circumstantial wins like Befuddle.

I've given it a bit of a go, and its really very fun. I'm going to try this for better threat ranges. The hex hunters while great at jamming - haven't got the same threat they have in Oracles and its made me a bit sad. So going to try archers. They can hang back nearer the pots as things advance and hopefully will either be worth killing early on or get to provide some really good shooting. Only regrets are no BFS, no spell martyrs, no succubus, and most of all - the archers best friend no Hellion. The shooting threat on a spawned Stinger is 26"! Melee Threat on a harrier is 21.5" These numbers make me happy. its mainly about the shredders combined threat of it all helped out by shredders. Last game, I did a neat thing. I had a shredder next to a Arm 20 Stormlance, and charged a beast mistress at it. She killed it (PS12 + 4dice) She then energised the shredder next to its friend, and killed that too. The Shredder then activated and killed a Storm clad, that a Bloodseer had attacked a little bit earler. I had a spare heavy to go kill it with too, but it wasn't needed!

Has anyone else tried anything like this? Dropping down to before 75 points of beasts, dropping say a soldier and Bolt thrower - means I could get BFS, Hellion and a spellmartyr. I could swop a shredder for succubus too. But am not sure. I like having that many beasts - they are great little tanks if they don't get knocked down. Arm 18 and 20 make them very tricky to trivially remove. Gonna give it a go soon - will report back.
