I think the problem is more like the one of the Trencher units is veterans, but all the Commandos are veterans, so you can't make a chaff unit or an elite version.
If I wanted to make an Assault Kommando sub-faction I'd have: - Assault Kommandos - Give their carbines a form of anatomical precision. - Assault Kommando UA and Gunner - Granted: Hunter and Minifeat shoot and shieldwall. 5 points. - Assault Kommmando Flame Thrower - same as always, maybe +1 POW on flamethrower. - Assault Kommando Kovnik, gives out Tactician (Kommandos) and Desperate Pace (Assault Kommandos). 3 points - An Assault Kommando themed jack with Pathfinder, Immunity Fire and Corrosion, and a Flamethrower/Grievous Wounds Saw. 15 points. - 2 Man Assault Kommando Assassins unit, armed with Death Whisper Carbines and Trench Knifes, has Ambush and Quick Work.

Yes that's pretty much it exactly: Cygnars shtick is also: "Have less but the stuff you got has all the doodads and whistles you might need, vs Khadors "Have More but pretty basic". As Exemplified by the Ironclad Vs Juggernaut. Cygnar is indeed smaller than Khador. Could Khador just amass all its armies and kill its competition below? Probably yes. Would it fall apart in 20 minutes after that and be destroyed from inside and every other direction? Also yes. The Winter Guard are no less brave and daring than Trenchers, and being a Winter Guard still, carries prestige in Khador. But it's still very bare bones kinda training, with pretty basic equipment (Relying on the WG Survival Skill to get them through on their own) and the idea is that if you make a Career for yourself in the Military, it's a role you Graduate from. Tough and Gruff? Iron Fangs. Resilient and bodily big? Man o War. Sneaky and resolute? Assault Kommandoes. Trenchers Represent that Cygnar has a smaller population but more wealth per person. More time is invested into special Maneuvers, and equipment (Trenches, Toughness, Gas Grenades). Assault Kommandoes are Khadors actually a pretty specialized unit in killing Trenchers. They where Designed for Trench Kombat primarily, which is why they have doodads all about Killing Trenchers (Disable Toughness, Flamethrowers to ignore cover). But they are not that one-note. They also deal with Assaulting Heavy Infantry Swarms and can deal with Menite Fire and Cryxian Acid Spew. Possibly they will have had "Expanded" into a much broader Elite Unit of Troopers when their book comes out, Representing Strahkov recruiting enough Kommandoes for a much broader army.

Perhaps starting to some kind of covert ops unit when making a new kommando unit? Because Strakhov, who is the founder of Assault Kommando, is renown for such mission. I do think that Assault Kommando's concept is great, but I don't think that their gears are suited for the clock and dagger. I fear that such units are can't do much in the current game meta, though.
Else maybe there are some combat engineers and chemical mortar teams?

I fear that such units are can't do much in the current game meta, though. Kayazy Eliminators Say Otherwise....And even the Kayazy Assasins are making a Comeback. I would be Totally cool with Assault Eliminators, or something of that fashion.

Well Iron Fangs are a paternal order. I'm fairly certain you have to come from a semi-noble background to actually be an Iron Fang.
It would be really good to see new combined arms Khador and I think the assault kommandos are a good place to start. Even though they are missing pathfinder and they are supposed to be assaulting trenches.
Now the AKs are based off the German WW1 Sturmtruppen units. Or Storm Troopers.
Now if we assume PP are history buffs like me, we can gather that the Assualt Kommandos might pick up a few tricks from their German Counterparts. The Sturmtruppen used to carry man portable machine guns and mortars, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see assault Kommando Mortar crews and machine guns.
However, some Sturmtruppen also carried shotguns and trench knives. Now Strakhov2 has a death whisper carbine and a trench knife, so maybe we'll see an assault kommando unit with death whisper carbines, trench knives and maybe ambush.

I think PP does follow military history at least a little bit but unfortunately they've already applied it to the dirty swans with Finn, trencher busters, trencher chain gunners, trencher cannon crews, and now trencher longgunners.
