I've killed a couple of casters by overruning a superioritied Grolar that was on the other side of a forest. I like how the grolar can be on the other side of a forest and still threathen 13 inches just by walking and getting to something, add in the feat and you get a 20 inche threat range that ignore rough terrain and wall on the 19 inches the grolar will move. Overrun is also one way to keep Strakhov safe on his feat turn, the feat requires the enemy models to be in his control range, which is not that big. But if you manage your activation order right you can advance Strakhov, cast overrun, use your feat, charge with everything and finish with the jack that got overrun, get it to kill something and move Strakhov back to safety. Strakhov can also use his feat, overrun and sprint to move a lot in one turn, I've yet to do it but I want to live the dream some day with Strakhov feating, casting overrun on himself, charging something, moving thanks to overrun and then sprinting for a total of like a 25 inches move in one turn. Not sure if it would really be useful, but it would be worth it just to see my opponent's face. Yeah in khador we can move more than twice as far as runing when we just kill your stuff.

I'm preferring Torch over the grolar right now. There's a lot of stuff that's immune to knockdown out there, and Torch still auto hits against that stuff after hitting it once. Also, sprint is excellent on one of our heavies!

I've tried Torch, but he doesn't hit hard enough. Plus, the Grolar comes with basically overtake-on-hit if you're willing to sacrifice a few focus.

Also, sprint is excellent on one of our heavies! Cheers, Dave They're... different. Torch will have trouble killing casters who camp while the grolar can just power throught the camp by sheer number of attacks thanks to the high rof gun, but the grolar will have a harder time against casters that can't be knocked down. There are a few, but I wouldn't say it's too much. The damage output of the grolar is higher thanks to higher power and the gun, but what makes the grolar better than Torch in my opinion is the native pathfinder, basically ignoring forest, rubble, shallow water, acid pools and the like is what makes the grolar more versatile in my opinion. The heavy boiler for a better positionning on turn two is just gravy at this point. I just don't like that Torch is less reliable at killing heavies than the grolar, that 1 point of pow can make a difference when hitting something with high armor. But you are right that against a caster that can't get knocked down like Rahn or Morghoul Torch will be better. Damn I have a way to ramble when talking about the grolar... This crush is getting unhealthy. In the end it's obviously up to your personal preferences, I don't think it's possible to convince me that the grolar is not the best jack for Strakhov after seeing it perform so well in so many match ups.

I guess because I'm playing in Legion of Steel and have a juggernaut in the list too I don't worry about Torch not killing (some) heavies as well. Better against Legion snakes, plus yeah some casters.
I'll give the grolar a try though, see how it goes!

If you're running Strakhov1 in legion of steel with only two jacks we are clearly not playing the same kind of list Overrun is probably not one of the tools you use the most compared to the list that I'm running that's entirely build around getting the most out of overrun. Usually I send an overruning jack at my enemy as soon as turn two. I don't even thing it's possible to do with a juggy an Torch in a legion of steel list. What is your exact list? I'm curious at how a Strakhov1 Legion of steel list look like.

I've been playing destroyer, juggernaut, Torch in Legion of Steel. I'm going to try dropping one of the two min ulhan units for a second juggernaut this evening, will see how that goes and report back. A big thing for me is that in Legion of Steel Strakhov1 is my Cygnar and Legion drop. Sustained attack is much better against the serpentine beasts, plus now that Haley2 can be immune to knockdown it's better there too. But, it all depends on personal preference and what you want the list to play against Cheers, Dave

With torch and sustained attack can you choose not to make your other initial so you won't trigger dodge?

I don't think you have to do all your initials attacks, just like you are not obligated to shoot stuff if you don,t have a target for your guns.

No, you don't need to make all of you initials. I asked and got a quick infernal ruling. privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?271568-Do-you-have-to-take-all-of-your-initial-attacksMeanwhile, this thread has me so jazzed about Strakhov. I'm really loving the tactics discussion. So... Here's another question, now that I just realized that you can fully load 2 jacks and get out 2 overruns. Who do you put Superiority on first. Originally I was thinking the Grolar for a 20" downtown feat turn but a Saavy you opponent might see at coming. The Juggernaut? That gets you in position to piece trade. Behemoth? You run Turn 1 and now you've got range to all sorts of stuff with your gun...and a Superiority Behemoth on Turn 2 might just take out 2 heavies in one round if they are clumped up at all. Now your opponent has a real prisoners dilemma...hang back and take shots and lose board position, or come forward and die. If he tries to jam with infantry, you've got your Kayazy. Thought on tactics here?

Superiority on Behemoth "just to get in Range" is almost always a trap. You want to start overrunning turn2, so you are really focus strapped as is.
I am really not sure on the rest though. Sometimes I put it on a Jugger to Overrun early, but many times I want it on one of my "Assasin" Jacks, because my opponent misplaced. Other times my opponent castles up and I have no chance on Assasination and which it was on Overrun. Expierence helps there I think.
The list I am going to play at a tournament on Saturday has 2 Assasin jack so that settles that^^

I usually put Superiority on a cheap jack at first, and save my assassins for late game when there's less models around to block the assassination run. You can afford to do this now since Strakhov can actually cast Superiority and Overrun, and also fully fuel a jack all in one turn now.

What is your exact list? I'm curious at how a Strakhov1 Legion of steel list look like. Sorry, didn't spot the question yesterday. My list is: Legion of SteelStrakhov1 +28 -Destroyer -14 -Juggernaut -12 -Torch -18 Iron Fang Kovnik -0 Iron Fang Kovnik -0 Ulhan Kovnilk Markov -7 Great Bears -9 Iron Fang Pikemen (Max) -15 -Iron Fang Officer & Standard -4 Iron Fang Ulhans (Min) -12 Iron Fang Ulhans (Min) -12 That's the list that assassinated Haley2 via Torch with Superiority. I tried it last night with a second juggernaut instead of the second ulhan unit, and spent the whole game wishing I had the ulhans! Played against Kaya2 on the Breakthrough (I think) SR2017 scenario and I won on scenario on my turn 4, going 2nd. The extreme threat ranges meant Circle couldn't properly contest without loosing key pieces so I was able to score multiple zones over three turns (7-1 in the end). I also had an assassination run on through putting Superiority and Overrun onto Torch to reach Kaya, who had no transfers. Back to the current discussion, I normally start with Superiority on Torch, Sentry on the destroyer and Occultation on either the pikemen or Strakhov. However in this game there were a lot of sprays, plus Loki and a woldwyrd were on the flank with Torch, so I put Occultation on Torch and Superiority on the juggernaut on the other flank. Overrun was triggered three times. Once by the destroyer to move Torch back after he lit up a sentry stone to remove stealth. Then on feat turn Torch used Overrun to move the juggernaut with Superiority via a boosted assault spray on a manikan, followed by that juggernaut finishing the turn killing a heavy to move Strakhov away to safety. If I'd gone the assassination or attrition route on my final turn I would have used it again. Cheers, Dave

What do you normally pair with this list? Currently Irusk2 in Jaws of the Wolf. That list is going through a few adjustments at the moment, not quite settled just yet. Cheers, Dave
