I also fear the “effectively lose your theme benefit if you’re facing a savvy opponent” loop. I must reserve judgement until I play it, though that’ll be long after it takes effect. (See: pandemic.)

The only thing I really dislike about it is that it basically forces the themelist into stuff that dials it up to 11 and/or can keep it safe.

I've only just twigged that the Shield Wall changes don't prevent Tactical Supremacy; for some reason I had mentally tagged '...and your activation immediately ends' on to the bonus movement.
Speaking as a Kozlov fan, this pleases me. I don't even need the feat to get Shocktroopers to the half-way line (more or less) on T1!

The Shield Wall change, although different and positive, has me terrified that stupidly speedy Shocktroopers are going to cause Armored Corps to lose the Advance Move benefit.

Maybe, but they'd get something back, or maybe change the wording a little so that you only get the benefit during your normal activation or whatever.

I can say with absolute certainty that Armored Corps falls down and dies on scenario without Advance Move. I think maybe the only positive change I was able to even halfway contribute to during the March 2018 Armored Corps CID was Advance Move. Of course, it's not like you need to play a CID game to demonstrate how otherwise impossible it is for SPD 4 models to contest far zones and flags before round 3, but hey, what do I know.

But you can also start in shield wall so depending on the wording that could be a 7" move.

"When receiving this order a model can forfeit its combat action to gain +3˝ movement as part of its normal movement this turn."
Someone suggested that this meant it only applied during an actual activation? Does an advanced move count as normal movement?

Someone suggested that this meant it only applied during an actual activation? Does an advanced move count as normal movement? Models do not activate during the advance move, so no, that will not apply. (Also, Shield Wall does not expire during the advance move, for the same reason.)

Just give Doom Reavers apparition. Then no one will complain about it being unpredictable!

I mean, it would be very thematic: a whole army just sort of ghosting towards you.
