Your spleen is completely vented eh? Sounds healthier than the alternative. A forced break of nearly 2 years from the game helps to chill me out, I guess. Oh, and I got a new job (same company, different position) and I start in about 3 weeks, so there's a light at the end of my dark, dark work tunnel. That's helped a lot of stress drain away.

Thanks! Anything has to be better than my current house of cards. :-P
It could be because the sun went behind some clouds, but I am very vaguely apprehensive about the supposed rules update that Faye is supposed to drop at some point. Chiefly, I hope it doesn’t throw a huge wrench into my giant-theme-force-versus-giant-theme-force Unbound plans for like 6 months from now.

Bleh. I have no vitriol left for the Berserker chassis. Also it helps that for this whole year I’ve only been thinking about lists that start at 300 points. I was thinking more of the Marauder.

I was thinking more of the Marauder. Berserker hits as hard for 3 points less, plus you might kill stuff by blowing up - which is better than just being removed. Mad Dog is as pillow-fisted as they come, but at least it's faster - which sounds like a good thing for Strak2?

The Marauder is great, and I highly recommend it. I think the extra 3 points is almost always worth it over the Berserker for the +2 ARM, +7 boxes, +1 MAT, and situational weaponmaster.
Berserkers only start to get consideration from me when I’m running low on points in some 300+ point Unbound army and I’m looking for my roughly fourth-string warjacks, and even then only possibly in the battle groups of Kozlov1, Sorscha3, and maybe Malakov1.
I really, really personally find the risk of Unstable to be far more than the benefits. Doing your opponent’s work for them in exchange for a POW 14 is a bad trade, in my estimation.

Which reminds me: in regards to Last Stand, I agree that something like Eliminators are probably the best targets. They are cheap enough to be disposable, hit accurately and hard enough on their own that the extra dice start taking rolls into “almost a certainty” territory, have multiple attacks, and have sufficient built-in movement rules to get them where they need to be, barring LOS-blocking effects or auto-damage effects.
They can, for example, probably reach an unsuspecting caster or critical support piece that a warjack could not.
Boy, I wish Doom Reavers could use Last Stand… Or if we had something like Praetorian Swordsmen…

I think if you're bringing it as a Last Stand target, that's a time when the extra 3 points might not worth it (depends on what that 3 points can do for the rest of your list of course). ARM, boxes, MAT, and Unstable don't matter very much when it's going to go in and die. Situational weaponmaster is nice, but situational.
But yeah, Eliminators are good. Maybe the Berserker gets it once they're dead? He's much slower after all, Eliminators probably go in a turn before he does.

odds are, if I'm casting Last Stand on something, it is to win the game.

It can just be for trading favorably.

I will agree that the use of the spell is highly circumstantial.
I feel like Eliminators can always trade up. Assassins + Underboss can seriously trade up as long as they can backstab and reach a bunch of things. Everything else… I’m uncertain.

So from the perspective of someone running a different faction now mostly (minifactions are comfortable), what would your drops be into this pair? So the Syvestro list is basically your standard CG shoots-things-dead list with a little bit of everything, the other list is like some sort of Armored Corps/Legion of Steel hybrid that is actually good: It's insanely resilient (stacking Decelleration and Force Aura) and has a hard counterpunch. Curious.

I’d drop about 300 points of huge bases and laugh and laugh.
