Wait that theme actually gained an extra theme benefit? It's hard not to be salty about winterguard kommand getting only one situational theme benefit and crappy requisition choice when a theme actually gets stronger. I could also understand why cygnar players would be salty about that when sons of the tempest also got the short end of the stick as far as theme goes.
At this point I'm not expecting much from our unspoiled themes...

Both of these units still die like flies. Lets see how they will actually perform. I can’t figure out if I should actually be worried or not.

Hard to say. The counter-argument seems to be based around the fact that taking the Gun Mages really limits your other options; your other unit has to be Cygnar. I don't think we'd see max gun mages. But at the same time, you could take 2 units of Thorn Gun Mages and Taryn for 14 sniper shots without taking any Cygnar models. I think the current popular flavour is more Exemplar-based, but I don't see why you couldn't add the Thorns in as support.
But then, the Thorn and Taryn top out at RNG10...
I just don't know. But I would dread dropping Legion of Steel or Wolves into it. Under Ashlynn they're RAT8, and on her feat turn you would be losing a full unit of SWI, no problem. WGK might get away with it because of the high-threat blasts, and Jaws and AC are probably too tough a nut to crack that way.

Seems to me like it started as an ok theme but just got worst and worst as the CIDs went on because it stayed the same in a world where enemy stuff got cheaper and pacmaning models became more common. I don't really see the match ups it's suppose to cover or the strenght it should have over our other themes.

Legion of steel fills the same niche as wolves of winter without a theme revamp or model revamp unfortunately.

I drop it into all sorts of things... but it's mostly that I don't own enough Doom Reavers to run Wolves.
I guess its niche is meant to be durable SWI... shame there's no such thing these days!

Def 12 arm 14 is durable? It's not like you'll always be able to stay in shield wall... I mean even when in shield wall most pacman model can still go through pikemen without any issues... Damn Tharn ravagers who can do everything...

LoS _MAY_ be worth retesting if/when the merc options come into fore. Now lets REaDILY note that A BIG deal for WOlves is AD on the doomies and a second is the upkeep benefit provides some tasty options for some of our casters (Vlad2; Zerkova2) that really like to run Wolves. Add in that Valachev may be restricted to Wolves (and you can't cast stuff on doomies) and it is hard to make the case.....
And yet.....
It will be interesting to see what benefits are provided to them. One has to assume that they will be getting one more than countercharge. We know that AM goes away. I do wonder, with all the single wound hate out there (see bloody L. Resistance and snipe spam), whether they will get something defensive to help enough get up the field to do work.
How about this - what if they got Vengeance? Suddenly opens up for casters like OW2 who could spam BC on them....B2 would could get Fury and Feat over to them to do wonders....Strakov's for speed (especially 2), Koslov, etc. Spread out, take a few for the team, threaten 14 (or more)

Currently, the only reasons to run LOS over Wolves:
1. You don’t own enough doomreavers. 2. It’s a Champions event. 3. There is no 3rd reason.

As ever, I will also add aesthetics to the list. A full force of Iron Fangs looks great.

You know, how Cavalry was actually used in battle.

With the new slaughter fleet raider spoiler, I find it increasingly hard not to be salty about winterguard kommand, that new theme keeps the best benefits from both theme, ambush on the bloodwitches and gang fighter on all the jacks, on top of great requisition options...

With the changes to LOTF, id wager LoS is actually an effective counter. You have plenty of access to counter charge/tactician which is solid vs pacmaning. Skirova is only one shield guard, but a fantastic one for LOTF, imagine shield guarding to watch him waste his entire activation not killing skirova. Everything in that list hits hard, has crit knockdown and one pikeman has decent odds of killing a tharn. Seems like some good trading opportunity.
