So we would also lose A+H in every theme except WoW? Judging by the changes in some of the other themes, theres reason to believe Valachev may get included in an extra theme or two, but you are right it probably wont be every theme.

Yeah we all kinda missed this when Jaws was spoiled but the wording is pretty clear. No Valachev in Jaws.

So we would also lose A+H in every theme except WoW? AH isn’t really played though. It’s a cool unit but not worth more points than a marauder.

I highly disagree with that statement, I play her regularly in winterguard kommand and with OW2 in armored corps. She is more situational than before thanks to the adjunct, but kiss is still a pretty good damage buff and holt's gun still do work.

I have not heard any PP comment on this. I listened to the Dev Talk when they spoiled Jaws, and they really glossed right passed it instead focusing on the positive aspects that your mercs count towards your army points and therefore Requisition Points.
My guess? They are future proofing the game in terms of themes and model development. When they release new merc units, they only *really* need to focus on whether the unit itself is balanced, now how it might interact as an in-faction model in a game with scores and scores of casters and over a thousand different models.
It’s a little annoying, but I think livable if they were thoughtful about which themes to add in the ranking officer...

I think it's because there was a disconnect between the rules in Prime and the Theme Force rules. From Prime v4, Pg76:
"Remember that Ranking Officers cannot be included in theme force armies unless the rules of the theme force specifically allow for the Ranking Officer and the unit it attaches to."
But the wording of the standard Mercenary clause in the Theme Force ("Mercenary units in this army can contain attachments") meant that all theme forces could take them anyway, which it seems was not the intention. In that light, I guess this isn't so much 'this needed nerfing' as 'it was never meant to work like that'

OK, officially hijacking this thread to simply be “Themepocapolooza Spoilers”.
For anyone who thought Widowmakers were OP if FA 2, please see the new Llealease Resistance theme. Gun Mage models gain Sniper (auto 1 point, and no Tough), Llaelease models gain pathfinder, and you get a 5” rubble terrain 18” from your table edge to casually grant your Pathfinder models all +4 DEF to shooting (except, I suppose, WG sprays...)

Particularly juicy with the Archons. Bear in mind that if you take 2 units of ATGMs you don't really have much more options in the theme. It is rather thematic to go 2x ATGMs and 2x Thorn Gun mages for 24 auto damage a turn.

That's interesting. That exact benefit was tested in the Christmas 2017 CID and was rejected for being too powerful.

Also why aren't people talking about this on the Merc forums? The Facebook groups have reached Dead Sea levels of saltiness about it. It's quite impressive to watch. When you think about it, it's a pretty strange benefit. The new theme structure is meant to reduce restrictions, but then it grants a bonus to one tiny subset of one of the most inclusive themes. "You can take any unit from 3 different factions, but we're going to heavily favour these two."

Both of these units still die like flies. Lets see how they will actually perform.
