So I just got the new army box in the mail. So I now have my first Grolar kit. I'm of course going to magnetize it, but I'm wondering how people are using it and in what lists. It's a great jack, but at almost the price of two marauders it's a pretty big point investment.

Its OK in my mind. More c grade then b. For comparison a juggers an a, destroyers a b, spriggains a d- and drago is an f
Its an... eh jack that suffers from a crappy secondary weapon. Really only take him for heavy hitting jacks with inbuilt pathfinder.

You have no idea what you have unleashed upon this world you mortal fool. Let's look at its Weapons, Stats, and Abilities. It's your average Khador jack at SPD 4, STR 12, MAT 7, RAT 4, DEF 10, ARM 20. It shares the Pathfinder and Heavy Boiler rules for some much needed speed while running and going through terrain. He's our only jack with Dual Attack and it contributes to his assassination potential. Continuing with the theme of uniqueness, he has a Piston Hammer at P+S 18 with Ram, which has two useful parts. The more obvious part is the applications of knockdown - setup a heavy for a mortar takedown, or the obvious go into a caster for an easy assassination. However, the more subtle part of this is simple - threat extension for the rest of your force. As long as you keep spending focus, you can propel a model a potential 4" towards yours if you start at the right angle and have some form of free charges. This can be used to take a normally hard to hit heavy into range of a your Decimator Gunline, or to bring a caster closer to finish them with the rest of your army. speaking of guns, the last little piece is his autocannon, pow 12 shots that can range from 3 to 5 shots. I'd recommend you never boost this - not worth the focus. Instead, use them to strip focus off a caster to set them up for your hammer. Now, how to fit the Grolar into your army. He wants a gunline he can support and an army that can blow a hole to the caster for him in my opinion, so a combination of blasts and powerful guns. I think Harkevich or Strakhov is best for this, as they can run the Jaws theme force as a self sufficient module to let jacks do work. conflictchamber.com/#c3201b_-0x7c7w7pdZ0d7shFhF8r868G8G8eKhador Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Jaws of the Wolf (Strakhov 1) Kommander Oleg Strakhov [+28] - Behemoth [25] - Destroyer [14] - Grolar [18] - Juggernaut [12] - Kodiak [13] Greylord Forge Seer [0(4)] Greylord Forge Seer [0(4)] Widowmaker Marksman [0(4)] Battle Mechaniks (min) [3] Kayazy Eliminators [5] Kayazy Eliminators [5] Widowmaker Scouts [8]

Vlad1 Signs and Portents +2 focus (call them "Goofballs") Sell tickets to those standing nearby who want to watch Activate Grolar hopped up on Goofballs Collect the tears of your opponent after you wreck his heavy and kill part of a squad Repeat...

The RAT 4 is the biggest issue I see with him (besides the points). Sorscha 1 can make that gun hit things (Freezing Grip/Feat), and it's powerful enough on its own to reliably kill infantry. Or knock a heavy down with the hammer then throw your 3-5 shoots into it now that you can hit it reliably.
It's an okay Watcher target for Z1. You don't get KD on the hammer outside of activation, but it has pathfinder so it can follow Zerkova if she decides to hang out near a forest.

Treat him as pathfinder Juggy that pays a lot for Dual attack gun. You have to pick a setup that can get mileage out of the gun to make it worthwhile.

Great feedback guys. Thanks. I was thinking about starting with what's in the army box to test him out. Add a few things to get to 75 points. I'm not sure the Irusks are really all that great of casters for it though. It does seem a Juggernaut or Kodiak would be a better choice under either Irusk.

Well, Irusk helps it a lot with Superiority.

In addition to the assassination piece others have mentioned, it's kind of janky fun to put a grolar onto Andrei. A redlined grolar is really kind of scary.

Both those spells are great, but neither help it shoot. So I come back to wonder if for fewer points it'd be better to have a Kodiak or Juggernaut.

As I said, the gun isnt worth shooting without hitting it with the hammer first. It's only pow 12s.

Ive had a superiority'd Grolar kill Fyanna under feat turn with 2 transfers. Boosted the hammer needing a 9 to hit, and then pump her full of led. pow12s kill war nouns, you do a few points here and there, stuff that isn't worth transferring or negating with focus, and it works really well. it has at least 5 initial attacks and a maximum of 7. With a free charge and boosted hammer you can get up to 9 attacks off it. It's huge!

Try it with Strakhov1, it's the best caster to run it, by far, other casters such as Sorscha1 or Vlad1 who can help it hit with the gun can make it a useful anti infantry tool too. It's expansive but has a lot going for it.

Outside of Vlad 1 and Sorscha, i think the Gun is really there as an assassination too, so I think that needs to be part of your game plan otherwise take a Kodiak and a Marauder.
I really liked it with old witch 2 in the CID.
