PP just posted an update with details about the new faction: (Youtube link)I think their artwork looks pretty cool; I like the colour scheme. Video also has previews of light vehicles for every faction. It also mentions "wave 2"; I assume they are not talking about the shipping waves for the original kickstarter. It feels a bit premature to me to talk about a second wave when we don't even have the first in our hands yet, but maybe it makes sense: I guess the kickstarter will actually go live soon after people have started playing, when excitement levels should be fairly high?

I think they look good. I kind of wish they'd make every single model in the faction pure tentacle, but then you do need to keep the silhouettes distinct.

I think most of them do have some form of tentacle? Are you saying you would have liked all of them to have some form of tentacle, or are you saying you would have liked the tentacles to be more prominent and central to the design (like, tentacles instead of arms and stuff)?

The tentacles are prominent enough, I just would've liked it if the troopers weren't just shaped like regular dudes. I get why PP do it, it's to keep the role of each model clear, but at some point imo it gets a bit boring. Think a la infernal Grievers. Could be pretty cool if they just went balls to the walls with the entire faction. Same with infernals, sure it keeps everything very clear, but then you look at their horrors / warnouns and y'know, it's just a really buff dude again, but this time he's an evil alien enemy crab. At least the lessers have some body type variety.

Fair enough. FYI there are easy ways to sculpt your own tentacles for some quick conversions:

Ok I must admit - this faction looks much better than all previous ones. And depending on their size, small warriors might make perfect material for Tau Stealth Suits conversion.

They kind of look like the various robots from the Matrix.
Anyway, love the new faction, can't wait for the first wave to finally arrive, and I can start trying this game out!

I don't know if they are "better" in an objective sense (personally they wouldn't be my first pick aesthetically), but to my eyes they do have a clearer and more distinctive visual design. Perhaps that's a sign of PP finding their footing with this new setting? Or maybe it's just a result of PP being freed from the limitations of needing to maintain aesthetics with broad appeal (now that they've got that out of the way with the first couple of factions).

It makes some sense that they'd start off with something very generic and safe, just to test the waters. To be honest none of the visuals so far have been that out of the ordinary - even the new tentacle guys feel like a mix of infernals and something else, Halo's Covenant maybe? If they take the same approach as MonPoc, we can expect the really interesting stuff to start dropping in the next months.

Something something Crysis Ceph.
But I don't think it's bad, just natural; keep in mind we have done and seen most things already, practically everything you do will make people think of stuff; be it a Star Wars Rebel, Tau stealth suit or whatever.

Oh, absolutely everything in the world is derivative. The question is just how different it is from the things it draws inspiration from or resembles. The Terminator is just a skeleton made of metal, with an Arnoldian shell, but it's still absolutely iconic. Meanwhile if you look at the Necrons, when they were originally conceived they were little more than ripoffs of that. The newer stuff is visually a lot more interesting, especially the leaders' outfits. Thus, more original and interesting. I don't expect PP to reinvent the wheel; I just hope they'll continue to do what they've done so well up until now. Trollbloods are noseless orcs with chin tumors; Ret is elves with tron tech; Everblight is elves mixed with 'Nids, which are just the Alien but less cool; Gatorman are voodoo lizardmen; Khador are russians; Farrow are pig orcs with guns; Protectorate are my next door neighbor, but less ugly; Cyriss are the french if we lived in a better timeline. Basically, the list goes on, but it's all about smashing together the right ideas, with the right execution. So far I'm not big on the execution in WNM.

I think the correct term for this model is “sploosh.”
I want one!

Glad he's Empyrean, I might actually be able to get him and use him.

What about the game itself? Has anyone received theirs yet? Any first-hand gameplay impressions ?
