So, recently my local group has started to favor 50pt games. This is mostly because of time, since usually less points = less time per game. However, I'm finding my trollbloods struggling at the smaller army size because of the troll toll (krielstone). Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions?

First of all: Remember that kriel stone is not just support unit. They are mat5 pow10 that can get +2mat from fellcaller. Thats better than most cheap melee-infantry. I often see players protect krielstone too much and keep all the guys far back. That way you are paying 9/12p from pure support and that hurts. First two turns you keep them safe, but after that you can put grunt forward ready to charge enemy. Second: don't take max stone, unless your caster can fuel it. Third: remember that our other support peaces (other than Moses) can fight too - and are good on it.

Yeh, don't use the stone at all and run Kriel Company with minimum BG. A list like that just doesn't need it. Might be weak as *#&£, but at least the lack of the stone doesn't disrupt inner synergy.

Yeah, I am guilty of over protecting the stone. I often forget the grunts arent bad fighters (statted similar to kriel warriors, actually). I had success with this list, weirdly.

Started as a joke, but the flood of cheap, tough models who can suddenly become mat 7, pow 12 weapon masters is actually pretty strong. The hermit can either let moses get some accurate eruptions or hit the opponents ARM pretty hard, but I actually found him best as a Grim Salvation target for Madrak. He guarantees to take 5 hits to kill and his 1/game prevent damage let me safely deploy Madrak deep without worrying about dying at all. It literally won me the two games I played thus far. Might try it again tomorrow

That is POW 14 weaponmasters with the hermit and stone I think that at less than 75 points you really must consider dropping the stone, or at least minimizing it. I do like your list though because it saves points on playing cheap dudes en masse and you bring the support to make them good instead. Kriel Company certainly relies less on the stone than many themes, though the War Wagons and Battle Group sill benefit greatly from it. The other variant is to play Madrak 3 with lots of dudes that dont really care about the stone and have a small BG stay with Madrak to still get the benefit. He is by far our worst caster in a vacuum, but his "super power" is that he can save points by not taking a stone and saving 6-12 points is more powerful the less points in total you play. He is not (and has never been) unplayably bad, just not top notch. At 50 points he could be pretty nice.

Played the list again into Old Witch1 with behemoth in Jaws with kayazy assassins, eliminators, sorscha0 with beast 09, and snipers with success. The sheer numbers of models overran my opponent, though I did get some really good rolls on feat turn to rip through the assassins. Madrak2 with the hermit is pretty effective if the opponent cant remove the hermit. Makes it extremely hard to assassinate him. Survived a full focus beast 09 and old witch assassination attempt without taking any damage with only 1 fury camped. Might try a variant of this at 75pts.

I just threw in some bears and another solo to make it 75 points. The bears are superb for discouraging spreading out (and Madrak loves tightly packed armies), but im not sure that is the way to go. I still only bring 30 kriels and that is much easier to handle for opponents at 75 points than at 50. I mean there are lists with like 60 bad statted infantry around, and even if this list will crush those lists, those lists are not dominating the meta, presumably because they are not super good. Maybe the way to go is to go full retard-mode and play 50 kriels at 75 points?

The biggest downside of going 50 kriel warriors is that I'd need to own 50 kriel warriors. The closest I could run to that would be to add raiders, bokor with shamblers, and another requisition solo (probably a second fell caller, but maybe valka)

You never go full retard... Sorry, I couldn't help myself Trollock. Continue with discussion, haha.
