Hello everyone. I have posted a similar thread in the Merc Faction, but I thought I'd see if you could help me too. I have recently purchased the Trollbloods battlegroup for my stepson, it has Ragnor, an Axer, a Bouncer and an Impaler.
The next logical step once we get finished painting would be for us to have a 0pt game. As my stepson is intelligent he will know if I'm letting him win by playing like a derp, but at the same time he is 10 years old so I'm sure he will want to win his first game very badly.
I play mercenaries, but am pretty new to the game myself, so I'm wondering what the worst possible zero point battlegroup is I could make with a mercenary warcaster and some warjacks, for fighting the troll battlegroup above so that I can look like I'm playing to win but still have good chance of losing!
I realise you guys might not play mercs yourselves, but any particular merc jacks/casters you know that are destroyed by the above Trollblood models?
I'd really appreciate some feedback. Doesn't bother me if it's a dorf or human battlegroup that I purchase!

I'm not overly familiar with Mercs but I'd say you'll want to avoid more than 1 heavy and you'll want to make sure that those jacks ARM stays on the relatively low side. The troll box is pretty decent but has trouble dealing with ARM > 19

The troll box also relies a lot on knockdown and slams, so you don't want to take any immunities to those things.

1) dont play ARM spam against him. The troll BB is really bad at destroying ARM. Play lights and you can have a more exciting game.
2) You can play aggressively with your caster. If you have Macbain punch out a light, he could be assassinated in return. Show him that the caster CAN do work, but there is a significant risk when he does.
3) Control casters and denial is frustrating to play against if you are new. Magnus 2 could really have his way with the troll BB. You charge and kill a beast and feat to be safe. Then you kill another and that is pretty much game over. Play a caster that allows both of you to actually play the game. Durgen perhaps if you want a dwarf. Magnus 1 is a very all round caster, but make sure you do not alpha too hard and then run and hide with the feat. better push up in to him, so he actually gets to fight your models.
4) If you see him doing something that is obviously super bad, you could suggest that he does something else instead. Explain what is bad and why, and he may learn from his misstakes without even having to make them!
5) Expand to a bigger point level fairly soon. When he can add the Kriel Stone and Mauler to his list, it will be much more like how trolls are "meant" to play! Trolls have always been weaker at lower points level, and the battle box is incredibly poorly designed imo. It allows you to practice both melee, shooting and magic, but it is missing the core sunergies that make troll beasts function. A larger game will allow him to feel the real power of trolls!

Thanks guys all of this was really helpful. I guess those Trollblood warbeasts are all lights, thinking about it, so I'll look at taking 3 light warjacks to make it even.
If he enjoys playing/painting I'll definitely get him the Kriel Stone and Mauler

On a related note I tried this 'lose on purpose without them knowing thing' on my missis the one time she showed an interest. MK3 trollbloods BB vs MK2 Circle BB. All was going well, she was learning, I was playing nice...
Then the devious mare moved up a argus, dopler barked, primaled her warpwolf and murdered my bouncer and ragnor (I had not feated to be 'nice')... so my advice would be to not underestimate your opponent. he may only be 10, but if this is a game he wants to get into, chances are he knows more about it than you may think...
