So I have two goals for warmahordes this year: Play every warlock in Trolls 3-5 times and play every model in trolls in at least two lists.
I made a few sub goals like play the warlocks I have experience with in different ways and try to play each theme in at least 4 lists
This year so far I've played:
Grissel 2 - Band of Heroes Borka 1 - Storm of the North Calandra - Kriel Company Gunnbjorn - Storm of the North Jarl - Storm of the North Doomshaper 2 - Storm of the North Horgle 2 - Kriel Company
As you can see I still have a lot of warlocks to go and I need to get better representation of themes other than Storm of the North. I've had some list block and decided I'd see if this community has any ideas for lists to try or weird places certain warlocks work well despite not being apparent.
My meta has been asking me to play some of the popular troll lists for ages so I figured I might actually give some of those a try (Borka2, Madrak1, Kolgrima, Grim1). That being said I prefer to try different things so I'm open to different lists with them as well.
Here's a list of who I have left to play and some tentative themes I was thinking of tossing them into
Borka 2 - PoD or BoH (suppose I'll actually have to build this guy) Doomshaper 1 Doomshaper 3 - PoD Grim 1 - Kriel Company (gonna try the huge base list that I keep hearing about) Grim 2 Grissel 1 Kolgrima Madrak 1 - BoH or SotN Madrak 2 Madrak 3 Ragnor
Also how the heck does anyone justify putting scouts or a skinner in a list because that might be the hardest part of this challenge so far.

In SR2016 all warlocks were pretty good in PoD. SR2017 and 2018 made PoD VERY hard to pull off though. Then you have KC that is just a mess. List diversity really suffer fron this and it will be hard to get around.
A couple of weeks after the SotN CID every one queued in on playing madrak1, borka 2, and kolgrimma. Since then NOTHING has happened with the possible exception of jarrows 4huge bases lsit in KC. Trolls do not seen to be adapting to the meta at all, and trolls seem to struggle to preform. I guess there is a cortelation.
Therefore, id suggest looking outside the 4 standard casters as they are strong in a vacuum but do not seem to address the current meta very well.
Im almost a year out of synch with the faction so i cant say for sure what the hardest match ups are atm, but im guessing tharn are tough as they are for every one. Nasty shooting from vulcan and judicators also seem like a problem for every one.
Id suggest looking at Borka 1 in BoH to handle tharn (and not with champions). Gunnbjorn seems like the obvious choice for the anti shooting part (together with kolgrimma who seems way more popular), but perhaps something super crazy like doomy 1 with stranglehold could give them shooty huge bases issues. Who knows?

I've been playing trolls almost exclusively for the last three years so I'm completely on board with what you said.
I only brought up the META troll lists because honestly other than maybe Kolgrima (and even that I run a little differently than most lists I see) I haven't played the meta lists. My troll collection contains everything in the faction except a skinner and pyg lookouts yet a ton of it I have yet to put on the table. This challenge is about trying all the stuff that for whatever reason I haven't which is why I'm going to give those lists a try.
I've thought about Borka1 in BoH though not sure he deals with tharn although Ravagers probably don't like 15" threat fennblades. I've played gunny and kolgrima into both CG and PoM with judicators. Into CG I find they do pretty well although I like Kolgrima better since she has a better way to deal with def 15 halberdiers or def 18 rocketmen. Judicators are tough and it really depends how you build either of the lists as High reclaimer judicators presents a very different issue than durst judicator. Competitively I've usually fallen back to my practice with Kolgrima and hope they look at my list thinking harby can take it only to discover bastions don't like S&P sprays
I hadn't thought about doomshaper as an answer to huge bases but I think thats mostly because I think about judicators most the time and they just have to put up shielding to shut that down.

I would look at madrak2 with all the dudes as a main.
Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Storm of the North [Madrak 2] Madrak Ironhide, World Ender [+28] - Troll Basher [7] - Troll Basher [7] - Troll Basher [7] - Troll Basher [7] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Kriel Warriors (max) [11] Kriel Warriors (max) [11] Kriel Warriors (max) [11] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Northkin Elder [3] Northkin Raiders (max) [15] Northkin Raiders (max) [15]
It's all attrition. Send a couple of bloodfuried troops in, cycle blood fury, and repeat. Feat to clear a zone or swing attrition back in your favor.

Im hoping oblivion will give us a Dhunian Archon to spice things up. Think Calandra but x10 bigger, carrying a big pig.

I find the analysis very interesting. I think Trolls should be okay, just not fancy new. So there is less thought going into the faction (also by your opponents!). I want to test more PoD. I know this is somewhat hard on SR 18 but then again, we could try to tech for this! The list I want to test looks like this: War Room Army Trollblood - Ragnor Szenario Theme: The Power of Dhunia 3 / 3 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army Ragnor Skysplitter, the Runemaster - WB: +30 - Trollkin Runebearer - PC: 0 - Dire Troll Bomber - PC: 19 (Battlegroup Points Used: 19) - Dire Troll Mauler - PC: 15 (Battlegroup Points Used: 11) - Earthborn Dire Troll - PC: 14 - Mulg the Ancient - PC: 22 - Troll Axer - PC: 10 Troll Whelps - 5 Whelps: 0 Gremlin Swarm - PC: 3 Northkin Shaman - PC: 0 Northkin Shaman - PC: 4 Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes - Leader & 5 Grunts: 9 - Stone Scribe Elder - PC: 3 Dhunian Knot - Leader & 2 Grunts: 6 THEME: The Power of Dhunia --- Ragnor should be okay. The gremlin swarm helps with scenario, the shamans provide scoring and help with sprays. They might be able to reduce Def on a key target (really maybe) The knot can score and also helps you with all the rat 6 magic attacks and pm is also good for the bomber. If you move fast enough you should be able to contest. The feat would keep you alive for this. Just for inspiration

cuberic that Madrak2 list is very similar to one I've been meaning to give a try. The guys in my meta call it "The Atlanta Meat Wave" jarrow I did a little testing with a grim2 list like that when the hooch hauler came out couldn't figure out what it would pair with. are you pairing it with anything in particular or is it just a fun list to play? I think I'm going to have to play that Ragnor just because I haven't done double gargantuans in years. snoozer that list seems straightforward but probably alright. I think instead of sacrificing the knot to score zones I might try to fit in some valkyries. They hit decently hard, provide shield guards, and are a lot more difficult to remove out of a zone once they're in. Anyone got any ideas on Madrak3? My current plan with him is mostly just a way to try as many of my sub par models in one list as possible but perhaps someone has come up with something thats good? conflictchamber.com/?c7201b_-0DgPfmjqeCdH6E0qfq2N6ehUhUTrollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Kriel Company [Madrak 3] Madrak, Great Chieftain [+29] - Glacier King [35] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Braylen Wanderheart, Trollkin Outlaw [0(5)] Gobber Tinker [2] Pyg Burrowers (max) [13] Pyg Bushwhackers (max) [15] - Pyg Bushwhacker Officer & Mortar [0(5)] Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew [2] Thumper Crew [5] War Wagon [16] War Wagon [16]

I'm still on process with the list pair but I think the Grim list is so generalist that it can be paired with quite many list. I was going to test Grim2-Ragnor list pair, but had to give up that tournament.

I am currently testing out a Grim2 SotN build
War Room Army
Trollblood - Grim2
Theme: Storm of the North 2 / 2 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army
Hunters Grim - WB: +25 - Muggs & Krump - Trollkin Runebearer - PC: 0 - Glacier King - PC: 35 (Battlegroup Points Used: 25)
Fell Caller Hero - PC: 0 Eilish Garrity, the Occultist - PC: 5
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes - Leader & 3 Grunts: 6 - Northkin Elder - PC: 3 Northkin Raiders - Leader & 9 Grunts: 15 Northkin Bear Handler & Battle Bears - Bear Handler & 2 Battle Bears: 10 Northkin Bear Handler & Battle Bears - Bear Handler & 2 Battle Bears: 10 Croak Raiders - Leader & 9 Grunts: 16
It is a simple list with a good amount of punch in ranged and melee perspective.
The battlegroup can see through a lot of terrain due to mage sight
Mortality helps in arm cracking and rfp.
Croaks and raider work well together since croaks can oil targets for you. Also if you have the first turn, can can also get a deployment advantage if your opponent has not many ad units since raiders, croaks and bears have ad

I played a Ragnor POD list at the beginning last year I really liked. Involved 2 bashers, 2 night trolls, a bouncer, a slag, a brawler and Mulg. With pulverizer, Mulg and the Brawler could handle most armor and the lights could even do good work. Crit stagger on the bashers really surprised people as did the paralysis on the night troll. You can bring one or two units of whelps to help with zones/flags and fury management(although I usually just banked on which beasts would likely die by the next turn).
