I don't think anyone is objecting to the general idea of theme forces. It's just the implementation that seems a bit off to some (myself included).

I'm just excited to see battle engines going into CID. That, to me, indicates that PP is going to rework older stuff to become potent and useful. If they use CID to its fullest then this could be a new golden age in WMH. They just have to keep cranking with it and make sure their playtesters don't lose interest.
I really hope that the Trencher Long gunners aren't a ten man unit with long guns. Weapon attachment is fine, solo is fine, 3 man unit is fine, old long gunners models with new rules is fine. I just don't want remakes.

Infinity has been using this approach for a long time now as well. Look at the overlap between options from different sectorials but using that sectorial makes that specific option better with extra abilities. You can always go full vanilla on the faction and mix the themes but have it be viable.
Interesting approach and we'll see if it pans out.

Not sure if i missed something but if they release new models with the same rules as longunners or mechanics, but with a pre-fix of "(troop type)", so that they are intended to be useable in theme, then count me out. I get the long term problem of bloat, but this is not a solution that appeals to me. I really, really dislike how the game is being developed around themes rather than the other way around.

What about multiple CA's. Like the old Iron Fang Pikemen and Black Dragons?
Take this CA get these different effects and a unit type maybe?

That wouldn't be too bad. I could live with that.

That's what I originally thought the new theme lists after the command books would be, but so far the Gravediggers one suggests otherwise. Which is a shame, both for the players and the retailers.

Longgunners don't fit a trencher theme. Trench warfare is actually rather exclusive of the entire ranked fire that Longgunners embody. A small unit of trencher snipers (Widowmakers)? I could get behind that... a unit of trenchers with long range rifles? Fine... but to just slap a bit more def/arm onto longgunners and have them dig in? Effective? Potentially... but lazy. Just fix the dumb LGs so that they are useable, how?... preferably without adding more models to buy and attach.

Its probably a new unit, maybe 6 man, of trenchers with Repeating Rifles instead of military rifles. Maybe with the ability to ignore cover when aiming.
That would be better than just slapping a proverbial coat of paint on long gunners and saying ''you're now trenchers!"

So the mini warmachine sounds like that league where you played with 2 units and a solo and no caster. Given the flaws that system had, i hope this one is better. Man remember how Legion had the Beast Mistress leading two Shredders? Good times.
