Interestingly you could just buy 2 Skorne warlocks, Beast Handlers (because you have to), and use your minions to build 2 different variations of the new theme. And bam, tournament legal "Skorne".
Maybe not optimal, but hilarious.
I also recommend Willbreakers and the Taskmaster, which still give you a brand new faction for $100.

Sure, but I've gotten married, deployed twice, bought and sold two houses, and had a child since the last Minions warlock came out so at this point I wouldn't turn my nose up at 5 new Warlocks to work into my tournament roatation. Honestly, I see no reason why this can't be a dual faction theme, but that just might be me entering the third stage of the grieving process or something. If it's the Warlocks you find attractive then you can just... buy them and play the theme? Literally all you miss out on is the capacity to pair them together at tournaments, but there's five of them. That's like a whole new sub-faction. Yep. And that's how I plan on treating it if I can build a list or two that I like. It's still frustrating that they could make this a dual faction theme with the stroke of a pen and choose not to, thus taking Disciples out of the running for competitive play in Minions.

"It's not as bad as games workshop at their worst" isnt exactly glowing praise. Honestly it's not as bad as Games Workshop at their best. It's not even as bad as Privateer Press in Mark 2, and I enjoyed the crap out Mark 2. Mark 3 is phenomenal. The game has never had better balance. I play against world class players on a semi-regular basis and have never felt like Minions were able to compete as well as they can now. My sourness at a theme force that isn't even out of playtesting is a small, small thing when taken in that context. Sure, it's also better than games workshop at their best. But the specific thing you mentioned is definitely the worst thing games workshop does on the regular. I also agree about the game overall (with the possible exception of themes because I still hate free points as a mechanic). It's never been better. But my heart has been with minions ever since Carver came out and I immediately picked up 20 more brigands and never looked back, and the last few months have been really disheartening. Here's hoping that Lock & Load can help fix this.

I'm not sure I follow you here, the changes say up to one solo, unit and battle engine. Doesn't seem to fill up all your points? Or am I missing something?

the skorne theme also has infinite unit choices from minions, as the go-to "Skorne Slaves theme"

Per dev talk Skorne does not get Dracodile. That is very nice, makes me feel much better about its usefulness within our own faction. The Skorne theme was kind of a shock but Privateer Press has shown skill in handling things like this so hopefully it turns out well.
