Sorry y'all. My sky is falling syndrome kicked in. It really only happens when I start reading Cygnar stats. It's pretty easy to guess what faction is the favorite at PP HQ.

The CID for the trencher theme, Gravediggers, is out now, and its first bonus lets them take a Merc unit with Murdoch attached. This gives me hope that maybe when we get our Greylord theme they'll let us play with Valachev and a Merc unit of our own I'm kinda excited now. Hopefully we don't get the non-character restriction. I'd rather have mercenary units with magic ability as the restriction - Graylords should be perfectly happy investigating/exploiting alternative arcane traditions. And I want Doomreavers + Alexia1 in theme for a spooky evil swords sub-theme. Forgeguard seem like the obvious choice for that, but have a marked opportunity cost in theme. Having said that, assaulting Trencher Infantry aren't terrible if they have a melee damage buff (like Fury) - MAT8, P+S12 is pretty good against other warrior models. Also decent against light jacks/beasts, but we don't have those. But they are rather dependent on getting the charge. Merchandising. How else do you get people to sign up for a military unit where your own armor can boil you to death? It's all about the branding. And the sales help support the war effort.

Wait, the dog has Leadership: Trenchers? Like the dog is their leader? Seriously? I'm OK with most of it, but the 8" anti-stealth bubble is too big, and handing out Dodge is stupid.

Reminder that Trenchers are POW 11 on a charge. So not awful melee presence at all. With their myriad ranged cannons for support, this is a pretty amazing all round units.
The dog I think was initially a WA, but then dodge to EVERYTHING turned out pretty nuts. But now its stealth bubble is unlimited.

Not all theme are created equal, some theme allow character stuff or free character stuff, some don't. The fact that Murdoch is there is a good sign for us, but we might get access to character merc units on valachev in a theme while cygnar doesn't. Being restricted to mercenary with magic ability could also be a thing. I think there's a pretty good chance we will get a doom reaver and greylord theme down the road and I also think it will include valachev. It could be exactly what Zerkova2 needs to shine, because at the moment she's a couple of releases away from being great.

Trencher long gunners are basically WGRC ranged output without their potential melee capabilities. Long overdue in Cygnar to be fair.
Superdog giving dodge to whole unit is hillarious.
Siege 2 seems like a Kozlov variant.
Looking forward to wg theme vs. trencher theme matches with Sabaton ost.
Valachev in Koldun theme is pretty much obligatory. The problem is that we won't see Koldun theme any time soon.

I have trouble seeing how the winterguard theme would perform well against gravediggers, most of the trencher list will have either stealth or cover, two things the WG don't like, at all.
The Trencher long gunners seem better than the WGRC in my mind, with decent base stats, a CA that gives insanely good abilities, basic tough and access to all the cool cygnar buff can offer them.

Right now I think the bigest concerns for me are:
The dog giving just to much stuff for a 2p model. Shrink the bubble to 5" and make him a WA again but who can attach to any Trencher unit seams reasonable.
Trencher Long Gunners completely obsoleting regular LG. I think swapping the UA on those two units would be interesting; Trencher LG loose CRA but gain back dig in and the other UA would allow them to put out a large volume of shots with boosted to hit within 8". The regular LG become the huge CRA threat with the ability to choose column and re-roll damage.

Leadership [Trenchers] - While in this model’s command range, friendly Trenchers models gain Dodge I believe that should read "friendly Trenchers models gain Doge." If that's the case I think the 2 pt cost is totally justified.

So if the trencher lieutenant takes a defender it can threat 26" with a Snipe caster. That seems fair . . .

So if the trencher lieutenant takes a defender it can threat 26" with a Snipe caster. That seems fair . . . I think you're missing an inch somewhere(please no that's what she said joke...), defender spd 5 range 16, fire group 2 snipe 4, although this is already something that could be done with Jakes sinces energizer and fire group gives the same threat range.
