This might be more of a general Warmachine question but I only intend to play Khador so thought perhaps some more focused responses would be helpful. I'm 37 games in, (I've sadly tracked them here ) I knew getting into the game I was going to take my lumps for awhile. And for some time losses came easily with lessons learned. But of late i'm just starting to feel like i'm out played and not sure how to get better. I know it's hard to offer detailed advice without seeing list matchups etc. I don't mind sharing lists if requested. Are there any general things you suggest new to novice players focus on? Guess i'm hoping there is some magic advice that will help me out. Still love Old Witch and Karchev. But i'm starting to look at Strakhov 2 as well.

It's a Meta thing to be honest. Whilst some people yell "get Gud" in truth it also depends on an opponent.
If your opponent is just face stomping you, and then walking off, Mic-Dropped. Then you will learn nothing and be bitter.
But friendlier, kinder opponents that let you talk your time, maybe even a few take-backsies, will really help you out. Id say part of Warmachines Hardcore audiences problem is being too brutal and cruel.

Warmachine has a hideous learning curve, and it has a lot of mechanics that feel like "Aha! You, like an idiot, placed your caster a half an inch to the left of where she would have been safe! Now, because you foolishly didn't see this combo of spells, abilities, and my feat, you insta-lose to my 27 inch non-linear assassination run, moron!" Your win/loss record actually isn't too bad for the number of games you have played.
As someone who is still learning, here is some advice:
Ask your opponents, after every game, win or lose, what you could have done differently.
Don't blame your dice. Yes, sometimes you get screwed by your dice, but blaming dice often means you aren't looking at what you could have done better on things that you could actually control.
Ask your opponent before every game what their stuff does, in general terms. Buy all the decks in war room, and put your opponent's list into your war room for reference. If you don't know what your opponent's models do, you're already behind.
Do some research on list construction, but don't always adopt the consensus of the internet echo chamber as gospel. I regularly use Assault Kommandos and they have done some good work for me in spite of being "unplayable trash" and I've recently started getting into Kossites which are way better than everyone on the internet says they are.

Truth dat. At the very least they are suprise bodies to use. At the best I had them destroy the entire enemy support.

Exactly - a lot of things people say are unplayable like Kossites or Hexeris1 are actually pretty good if you commit to using them properly instead of throwing them at the enemy like a jack.

So I took a look over your results. Most of your games are ending by Assassination, which is normal for newer players and suggests you are still making mistakes with caster placement.
While there is some diversity in your match ups, you mostly seem to be playing against and losing to Menoth and Legion. Are those the same players? It's entirely possible it will take you 100 or more games before you can start to challenge some opponents. But if you posted your most common Karchev and Old Witch lists maybe we could see some things that could be causing you trouble.
In all honesty both Old Witch and Karchev are some of the more difficult casters to master in the faction. I would probably say Old Witch is THE hardest to be good with.

The only way to get better is to actually focus on specific stuff you want to improve, and to work on it consciously and constantly (regardless of the game's outcome).
"Not losing" is too ambiguous a goal, on the other hand "not giving up an alpha", or "not losing my support" are way more specific and you can actually take measures to get better at these specific things.
Looking at your record it seems you are losing a lot to assassination. My recommendation is that you need to first learn how Not to lose, and learn how to win second.
This means that your specific goal to work on is to "Not get assassinated". Doesn't matter if you win or lose the game, just make sure that at the end of the game your caster is still standing.
Once you are not giving up the assassination, your second milestone should be "Not lose on scenario".
After you can safely protect yourself from these two lose conditions, you can then start working on leveraging your own tactics and models to secure your own win condition.
I'm not going into the specifics of your lists, because chances are that you may still get assassinated often even if you have the perfect counter to your opponent, so work on the basics first.

My first advise is: Drop the Excel sheet!
Even though its well made and looks very nice it's a bit of a trap. It doesn't really matter how often you loose and win. Like some said before if you loose try to find out why, talk to your opponent. Some of them will just be better than you and thats okay. After all they have a lot of experience on you.
I am fairly new myself (started abou 8 month ago) which sounds like a lot, but you have to think that of that time at least 2 month were spent just learning the basics of the game (going up to 75 points). After that came learning my army and currently I try to get an broad overview of my opponents (I mean I know what the cards say they do, but I have never seen them on the battlefield).
I still mostly loose to Assasination (btw a good reason why Strakov 2 is nice, because he is relatively safe). If the Assasination is easy I often ask my opponent to roll it and then to continue normaly, so I can learn about my list as well.
But frustration happens. I had that especially after I won my first 2-3 games and suddenly one of my opponents switched to full gear (probably didn't want to be the one loosing to the new) and played Wurmwood into my Old Witch. He went first and Assasinated me in his second turn. And that was my game for the week. That felt really bad. Especially I couldn't even test my list or find out what WW does. After that I alwaysed asked my opponent to just continue playing (except for training games for tournaments etc.).
In addtion OW is a really squishy and hard to play caster.
To sumarize: Don't get frustrated to much. There will come better days. Maybe try new stuff and or new opponents and try to learn from them.

I would keep the spreadsheet. As you progress you'll start to see improvements.
I started a spreadsheet at the beginning of MK3. It's allowed me to see where lists are falling down and what opponents I'm struggling with. It means you aren't falling for the same trick twice. I'm at a win rate of 47.5% which I consider pretty good, when you factor in the qualities of my opponents, including England and Welsh team members, but if I was to go on my pure memory I'd feel terrible, since I've had a bad run of losses recently.
Looking over your casters, I'm finding it hard to comment without knowing your lists definitively. What I would say is Old Witch and Karchev have distinctly different play styles and have completely different needs from what their armies are composed of and what scenarios they excel at.
Can you post your commonly used lists?

Thank you all for your comments i'm listening to everything. While there is some diversity in your match ups, you mostly seem to be playing against and losing to Menoth and Legion. Are those the same players? Yes same 2 players, very helpful guys. They are using a wide range of lists and casters, so I can't really gear towards one thing with them.

Don't be too down.
Some practical advice.
1. Focus on 1-2 skills to work on in a game. Ask your opponent to look at this skill during the game and get feedback. Don't focus on everything at once.
2. Take game photos after each rounds and go back to look at what you could have done differently.
3. The developing player series on chainattack.com is good. The $20 dojo subscription is woth it. There are lots of old back episodes and some of the MK2 content on skills is just as applicable today. The murder of crows podcast has less content, but some of it is good and mostly entertaining. The recent episode on dice math was quite good.
4. Post a battle report where you lost and can't see what you might have done better. Photos too.
5. Keep playing Karchev. He's really good at attrition and not dying. Post your Karchev list and a batrep. Lots of folks around here including me play him and can give tips.

If you're in "learning not to suck" phase, you should drop the OW, she's underpowered.
And while Karchev is okay most of the matchups you lose with him are actually his bad matchup, i.e. Legion, Amon, Circle. Though the amount you lose with assassination on him suggests you do something very wrong as he's quite hard to kill. Do you not camp? Do you put him in melee threat range of 2+ heavies? He shouldn't die otherwise.
I'd say you should try other casters, starting from more popular ones.

In my experience its often the other way around. People who start in "Easymode" with the strongest picks tend to lern less because the gap is closer. But that may be my personal experience talking.
