Good article.
The BoH elephant in the room for me is that attempting to skew to high DEF is not really a great TB build when routinely facing Aiming RAT 9 models (some with Sniper), or DEF bypassing abilities (e-leaps, etc.) Durability infantry build? Not with our middling infantry ARMs, even with KSB.
So, I like the article's consideration, delivery of the Fenns is via BoH forward START, and stuff like Gunnbjorn Feat for full protection, or hopefully some protection from Grissel2 Deflection or the like.
SR2017 could make BoH more attractive...

Have you been getting much work out of toughaloes? Cav need to get at least 2 charges to make their points back and mine never last that long.

Since they changed the you cant slam your own models they just seem lackluster to me. I think they should give them an update like battle driven that way if they got shot they would be harder to kill with thr arm bump

How are the Toughalows 15 points? Pretty sire they cost 20 points for the max unit.

I think giving them more speed and Grand Slam could make them a lot better.

I think you are exaggerating the importance of SR2017 a tad. it is confirmed that only WARRIOR MODELS can score round zones, but that still leaves solos and whelps who can score just fine if you play PoD. I also think that this article highlights why BoH is a poorly designed theme force. Here you have some nice dojo for sure. It is an option against what you see in the meta (i still have not heard any reports of any one actually playing ghost fleet in sweden, but i get that it is a problem). And how many Warders/Champions/Longriders are in that list? 0. Even when playing a theme where those models are subsidized pretty heavily (like 25%) you will not include them... Had BoH given you free stuff for any units (like you know all of the other themes...) it would have been totally fine and playable imo, since you could bring a more balanced list and get rewarded for it. On thing on the Gunnbjorn list though. If Ghost Fleet is your prey, you simply MUST have a Sorcerer on the fennblades so they can threaten the incorp stuff too. Preferably you would want a stone attachment too, but this can at least be solved easily enough. Thanks for a nice article, even if i am a skeptic this time

Thanks for a nice article, even if i am a skeptic this time I mean, I do agree that the theme desperately needs to give free solos for any infantry.
It's more that our next big UK tournament is 6 weeks away and I'm very happy with my two list pairing so I wanted to test the theme. I don't think the mass elite infantry lists work very well so I'm giving this a try. Sometimes lists are better on the table than in the dojo.
That said, If someone dropped ghost fleet Id be tempted to drop a beast brick, as my current Doomy3 list has max stone and I doubt all those pirates could chew through it.

Great article! I have been playing a list very similar to your Grissel list, but with Borka and the MK, and found that it plays well into a lot of things that are popular at the moment (I'm also pairing it with Doomie3, but without a MK).
My list has min long riders and Horthol, which I've found to be slightly more useful than max long riders, especially if you don't have a good upkeep to put on the unit. I just really like the boosted impact attacks, and the ability to spread the two out more than a unit can.
I do really like this tier, and I think it's a shame that people have disregarded it based on he lack of free points (my Borka list has a mere 4 free points). I think the most useful benefit is the +2" deployment bonus- going first means your fenns can be 21" up the board on turn 1, and with a 14/15" charge threat with Grissel or Borka.

My Band of Heroes theme:
Madrak III 29 Troll Axer 10 Dire Troll Bomber 19 Fell Caller Hero 0 Fell Caler Hero 0 Trollkin Champion Hero 0 Trollkin Champion Hero 5 Min Champions 10 Min Champions 10 Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes 6 Stone Scribe Elder 3 Min Warders 10 Min Warders 10 Long Riders 20
Not an autowin, but has won much more than lost. It is nice to have two bubbles of Armor so I can spread the army out if needed. Also, Mad III is surprisingly resilient, even for me, the guy putting him on the table.

I really don't see the point of putting Fenns (or kriels) in a BOH list if you own enough long riders, warders, and champs to use them instead. the units don't do exactly the same thing, but you can get the other units to fill the place of fenns well enough that i think it always makes sense just to go for maximizing the point discounts.
I also agree with trollock that its really stupid fenns and kriels don't count towards the point discount. those units need all the help they can get to be worth taking. That being said I think the theme is actually really good overall. I've gotten enough out of long riders and champs for the theme to be competitive.
