So things are now getting interesting. I am not sure that RNG 10 cuts it but for we now for 13 points can get 10 grunts that shoot Pow 11s into melee without disadvantage AND can pop off CRAs into melee as well.
Now I am not sure but I WONDER if they could find themselves a role in AC. You could fit a unit in and still hit three free solos. It MIGHT provide some interesting shooting. Seems they would provide decent shooting in LoS - if fangs were bit more viable.

Well, they seem like a straight upgrade over WGRC other than the range... But taking Valuchev would pretty much fix that with Zephyr...
I feel like the big draw back is lacking any sort of tactician. I don't think we can give them the ability to see through any of our troops other than with I2?

Also POW 11 and CRA into Melee is pretty good... AND no defensive penalty. Who might make em OK is strakov1 in AC. They would work to clear off flack before you send your Man of Wars screaming into stuff. Or for 2 inches less threat Kozlov (who probably is better because of Fury)

You could also take Sergeant Nick to keep bringing them back. Even with Valachev, because Reinforcements doesn't state friendly faction, just friendly.
Am thinking they could be legit in Wolves of Winter with Irusk2 (Fire for Effect because reasons), or maybe with Vlad2 in some form. Oh, Sorscha1 probably likes them in Wolves of Winter as well actually.

They could also work in Jaws, to clear out blocking infantry in front of the jacks. Although they don't help with the inherit threat range problem (like the Steelhead Cavalry), without Valachevto and they triggering RtW that is.

So far I've written a Sorscha1 Legion of Steel list and a Karchev Jaws of the Wolf list containing steelhead riflemen that I like the look of.
They can be surprisingly tricky to get into lists. I think you have to accept you're not getting the masimum number of free things if you take them (they use 13 of the 15 "free" points), but that's not a big deal really.

Might as well just play out of theme Two free forge seers and a free Sorscha0 all seem very good for Karchev in my book. Also while no ambush isn't the greatest, it does force armies into more of a scrum than some want. Which is something Karchev likes. Either way, it's a totally untested list! But it's an idea. Cheers, Dave EDIT: To add: I have actually been looking at remaking Sorscha's 11 with the new riflemen involved. Kinda interesting, but need to test to see if it has any potential. That's obviously out of theme. Used to be great fun in MKII, but I'm not sure it'll work in MKIII.

I dunno, it just seems like a lot of faff for 5x P13s. Or 10x poor P11s.
It's the RNG10 that kills them, IMO.
