Hey Fellow Trollbloods, I am headed to my first small tournament on April 22nd. I know I am far from ready, but I know I am going to have a great time. To prepare, I am creating a post (two per day) to discuss the top 3 casters and lists that each faction may have. To do this, I am going to view the tournament casters and lists from www.discountgamesinc.com/tournaments/ and post an overview. If you disagree with the 3 casters/locks I choose please feel free to post about another to look out for. My hope is that at the tournament I can learn what faction I will be playing against and pull up the advice against each faction/key unit/key model. For example: I have personally played against the protectorate MANY times. The first several times I played them the Idrian Skirmishers (and UA) KILLED me. They repeatedly took out entire units, heavies, etc. It was brutal. The past three times however, I have managed to keep them at bay. The last game I had against them they were barely effective. To anyone playing them I would suggest you run away their prey target, run to jam in melee, kill the UA and stay within the stone. This tip might be totally obvious to an experienced player, but it was not to me! Those are the types of things I'll be looking for. My Drop ListsDoomy 2 - The Mark List Mulg Mauler Mauler Mauler (will switch to an Earthborn once I buy the model) Earthborn Axer Krielstone max + UA Janissa Whelps Whelps Grissel 2 Bomber Bomber Mauler Mauler Axer Bouncer Krielstone min + UA Dhunian Knot Janissa Whelps Whelps What would be your strategy (list drop and key units/models strategies) against the following casters and lists. Vyros 2 Sylys Wyshnalyrr Griffon Griffon Griffon Griffon Helios Gorgon House Shyeel Battle Mages Soulless Escort House Shyeel Battle Mages House Shyeel Artificer House Shyeel Magister Arcanist Arcanist Arcanist Kaelyssa Hydra Hydra Elara Discordia Dawnguard Sentinels (max) Dawnguard Sentinels UA Soulless Escort Dawnguard Sentinels (max) Dawnguard Sentinels UA Soulless Escort Arcanist Arcanist Arcanist Rahn Sylys Wyshnalyrr Chimera Chimera Hyperion House Shyeel Battle Mages Soulless Escort House Shyeel Battle Mages Mage Hunter Strike Force (max) Mage Hunter Commander Arcanist Arcanist

Doomy i think. He threatens further than Vyross and could potentially take a big chunk of the army on the alpha. You need to use your EBDTs to threaten them though cause Helios can really mess with you otherwise. Since the EBDTs cant be pushed though, they will have to lead the charge.
Against Kaelyssa, you can threaten a big alpha, and he will have to feat early to prevent that. Afterwards, you back off a round and then eat the sentinels with overtaking beasts. Or you can just trample up to them on the feat turn and start buying attacks.
Rahn is always super dangerous to anyone but the EBDT animus on Doomy should help keep him alive. Then you will have to brute force down his army. Kill the Hyperion (charge something near it, or trample up with a couple of beasts and then he can no longer win attrition. Survive the assassination and then you are home safe.

Heya as Ret and Trolls are my 2 factions i play i would almost certainly drop Grissel2 here as Rahn is on the table and nether of your lists don't have shamans. Kaelyssa - Stone negates feat and even if you cant charge double bomber + Grissel shots will do wonders on stomping the sentinel alpha. Bouncer can help against shooting assassination and Grissel sure has better stats to survive it in general. Also Feat is relevant here as his list cant really stay on range with just 2 hydras and you can kill Elara from downtown to make it even worse. Grissel 1 - Doomy 0 Vyros - Whelps in both of your lists can negate pulls from mittens so thats that. Griffins wont hurt that much thru Grissels feat and i think the most relevant thing here is Helios as you cant alpha it down that easily with Doomy2 cos of repulsor/distortion field but bombers do nice work on it even from range and same goes to Griffins aswell. And bouncer + deflection makes it really hard for helios to get any relevant shots tru. Grissel 2 - Doomy 0 Rahn - now to my boii Rahn . Rahn is a jerk. Deflection helps to keep Stone up against MHSF. Polarity shield makes it really hard for doomy to trade effectively as it neuters the feat and if you commit to chaff (this case MHSF) you most likely already lost. You might clear them but after that its usually feat + TK time for Rahn and those mittens will kill your heavy if you cant protect it with stone. Id say this is tough matchup for both casters but i think Grissel has better chances. everything written is personal experience and im not high level tournament player by long shot.

Im worried about Grissel in to Vyross. Griffons are 12/20, against shooting, so you can knock one over and kill it, but that is about is. Helios is 14/21 against shooting, so your Bombers will not cut muster. You will have to melee him down, and i think he can neutralize your Maulers before you down Helios.
Against Rahn i think Grissel is valid (though MHSF do not give a crap a bout decel since they are blessed, right?) but since i had Doomy pegged for the other two match ups, he would have to drop against rhan too. Grissel is way more survivable though with +2-4 DEF and +2 ARM. Grissel could also potentially down both arc nodes before they got to do anything if he was not careful. That would solve the match up for sure.

Also played Grissel2 against Vyros2 Griffon Spam. He blocks your shootie very fast and you have to find a vector for the assassination. But often there are three shield guards round him so you have a hard uphill. Impetatus is also good protected.
