The Brawler is an amazing warbeast but PoD is not really the right choice in SR2018 currently. Tim Banky has had success with his Borka2 PoD list but he's an outlier. If Doom3 or Doom2 become meta again then I wouldn't be surprised to see a Brawler or two in Troll pairs.

A similar argument can be made about the sea king. Absolutely worth his points but still less likely to be seen compared to a Mountain King or even a GK because the main niche of hitting hard and fast in melee can be covered decently by other models who can also do more.

I think I'm going to play this list next time. conflictchamber.com/#c7201b_-0GfLjn9Djq6G6T4kj20li-iZiZj06mTrollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Storm of the North [Ragnor 1] Ragnor Skysplitter, the Runemaster [+30] - Dire Troll Brawler [16] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Horthol, Long Rider Hero [8] Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress [4] Valka Curseborn, Chieftain of the North [0(6)] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Northkin Elder [3] Northkin Bear Handlers & Battle Bears [10] Northkin Bear Handlers & Battle Bears [10] Pyg Lookouts (max) [10] Trollkin Long Riders (max) [20] I think I can get away with not having an Axer since just about everything else either has Pathfinder or can get it from the Fell Caller. So this list can conceivably give him a 13" linear threat range plus whatever he can get out of Beatback and he's doing this with PS19 (22 w/Rage) chain weapons. Even if Lanyssa misses her Hunter's Mark, his 11" threat (with Wild Winds) is still above average.

So, Madrak 2 huh? Remember this experiment? I only gave up on it because it was poorly situated to the meta at the time and I didn't put in the reps to learn it. I wonder if this might be better now, against all the medium infantry running around. In particular, the Brawler can Warpath into a good charge lane then kill entire units of MOW, as he ignores their shields and shield wall. With Primal, he is MAT 8, which hits Ravagers just fine, and PS 19, which can one-shot Chosen. conflictchamber.com/#c7201b_-0G4XjniU0hjqj66Gj20li-j5iTbKTrollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Storm of the North [Madrak 2] Madrak Ironhide, World Ender [+28] - Dire Troll Brawler [16] - Rok [19] - Troll Axer [10] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Eilish Garrity, the Occultist [5] Fell Caller Hero [5] Valka Curseborn, Chieftain of the North [0(6)] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Northkin Elder [3] Northkin Raiders (max) [15] Trollkin Champions (max) [16] - Skaldi Bonehammer [5] Though I did learn that Valka can't Overtake because he has Takedown... Yeah, I know, no 3rd freebie, but other than that, all of the bases are covered. Madrak 2 doesn't need Far Strike as much as the other versions do. Eilish is there for Puppetmaster more than anything, to lessen the odds that one bad roll will break a Pac Man chain. I could min the stone and run Horthol instead, as he could be bonkers on the feat turn (especially after a closer reading of Bull Rush) but I probably need the bigger aura more. I don't think I need Whelps very badly, as the beasts will get most of their work done on the feat turn, but they could sub in for Eilish along with a Chef, or maybe change that up a bit more if the Axer is not needed after all.

I was playing around a bit last night.
What about with Grim 1? He can give him the speed buff he wants without it being a spell leaving him free to take Rage or Primal. A Lanyssa can help out there too, although I'd rather have someone else in that slot. Use the coldstone for speed, he starts getting pretty ridiculous. Weald secrets can go on something like Raiders, pathfinder doesn't matter, but with their poop RAT ignoring concealment and cover sure can. The thing I saw that I missed most was actually the Pyre troll animus being range self now. Man, did that guy ever take it right to the nuts in this edition......

For a while this year I was running:
Grim1 (pod) - Runebearer - Mulg - Bomber - Brawler - Mauler - Earthborn Max Stone + Stonescribe Elder Lanyssa Gobber Bellows Whelps Whelps
The list was excellent, especially into Grymkin and you don't need an Axer, because Grim can hand it out for free,

I've only used this list once, but I had a lot of fun with it against Crucible Guard -
Doomshaper 3 (Power of Dhunia) - Runebearer - Mulg the Ancient - Dire Troll Brawler - Dire Troll Mauler - Dire Troll Mauler - Troll Axer - Troll Axer
Max Krielstone - Stone Scribe Elder
10x Whelps

There is something to be said for simplicity.

List looks fine, but man do I hate PoD. Not sure I could run it.

Madrak2 is also a consideration in Storm. And Rök and u have a mat 8, pow19 berserk, overtake, warpath beast. Its kinda as good as Doomy2, gaining warpath during pacman is huge. Bears will push enemy right into his Army. Played it several times and its fun

List looks fine, but man do I hate PoD. Not sure I could run it. Is it just that your playstyle prefers high modelcount lists? If so that's completely fair. Personally I think two low model count armies is the peak of warmachine. It's a shame that the Scenario pack drives us away from it.

I'm glad you got it to work. I have the one that came with Ragnor as well as an old metal one and a third that I modded out of an extra Impaler.

I really think it serves a purpose in the heavy infantry meta. Especially with Madrack2. Primal it, and eat an entire half of the table.
I also think anyone with threat range extenders make it shine, capitalizing on reach and it’s solid base pow.
Then there’s borka2, because Countercharge and ret Strike is always cute.

Since Primal lasts for the round and Rok can always go with Borka, might as well put it all together.

For example: Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Power of Dhunia [Doomshaper 3] Hoarluk Doomshaper, Dire Prophet [+26] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Earthborn Dire Troll [14] - Earthborn Dire Troll [14] - Earthborn Dire Troll [14] - Mulg the Ancient [22] - Troll Axer [10] - Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Troll Whelps [0(4)] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] I have run Borka1 with RÖK and Brawler on northkin theme. Minimal battlegroup that synergy good and both get speed from northkin stone. Also Borka (both) are only casters that really can use brawlers animus on themselves.
