I face the protectorate often in my local meta and have been trying to get clever to deal with Enliven (allowing the enemy jack to make a full advance after taking damage). So today I am trying to think creatively about handling enliven.
My first thought is for two whelps to help me. I am quite certain that I can place my whelps on each side of the jack and remain in its front arc, but block the jacks retreat.
Is it possible to advance, grab, throw and knockdown? I would have to get creative with the throw taget in order for the jack to still stay in range.
Are there any other tips for helping against enliven?

if you have any guns, shoot the jack. Enliven isn't a may effect, and as such doing even 1 point with a gun will force the jack to move before you go in. If it moves away your opponent cedes scenario presence, and if it moves up you charge it as per normal. Especially useful when you have something like a borka feat to make sure that you can catch up to the jack even when it moves back.

Knockdown is also a good way to get around enliven. They cant make an advance if they are lying on their back

Enliven no longer ignores free strikes so if they want to move way, they are giving you a free boosted attack. Its not as ridiculous as it used to be. But if you can knock it down, or box it in, that was the way to go to trap it.

Headbutt will do better than throw in the case you describe, as it won't move the model. Otherwise, listen to the above posters.
Slamming is another popular option, of course.

I'm still quite new, and not terribly familiar with slam. The way I understand it the model would be slammed out of my melee range. Is that correct?

I know it works for Admonition, not entirely sure it does for Enliven off the top of my head, but Countercharge on your beasts with Borka2 might also keep them in range AND give you another free charge attack, the issue then being, are they in range to force still.

That works as long as the enlivened Jack (or anything else) is not engaging your beast after he moves. If you are relying on melee range 1" beasts (like you do), and he has 2" reach, he can just back out to 1.1" and still engage you, so you can not counter charge. Shooting the jack Knocking it down Boxing it in Those are all common options. If you are playing infantry, charge the jack with multiple dudes. Do the first charge attack. If he moves away now, he will still get free strikes from all the dudes that is engaging him, so that is pretty much a superior charge attacks
