Also, the little evil troll in me would suggest the following:
Show up early with your wife or dad. Grab a table. Set up a bunch of 3D terrain to replicate urban combat. Maybe borrow some from terrain an infinity player. Pick a scenario from No Quarter or an old narrative league. Duke it out with your best 63-point list. Start playing the game your way, and don’t let anyone tell you that you are playing the game wrong.
Then sit back and watch heads explode.

The saddest thing is... they aren't bad guys, just VERY opposed to change it feels like. I do think there were some great ideas here, and I thank everyone for the help! I've formulated a new plan, and maybe I'll report back and let you guys know how it goes down either way, this was SUPER helpful (you may have saved one player from leaving the game )

It is a very totalitarian approach to game night.

There's nothing that says you have to play at a store either.
I've only ever played with my brother at our homes and we have a great time.
We can try out new models, armies, combos, scenarios and there's no one telling us we're doing it wrong just because it's not tournament prep with net lists.

While this is true, playing out in the open is more likely to keep them meta alive and (hopefully) draw in more players. My local meta is currently very small and I basically only have games with 1 or 2 people that I make plans with beforehand. This sometimes happens at home, but I do make an effort to go to the local venue when I can just so people will see us play, look at some cool models and/or see that the game is still alive.

And that's fair enough but it sounds like OP's venue is a hostile environment. I'm only suggesting OP is lucky enough to have some family members also playing and that's a great way to get some games in at home without the pressure of strangers and in this case, their unwelcoming behavior.

SO has anyone been able to introduce new people to the game and importantly any luck in recruiting younger people to WM/H? I got one guy back into it a week ago, he enjoyed it so much that we now have plans to play regularly (he picks the point level based on what models he wants to try out (he can field a max of 42 points atm)). He got sorta dropped by the people who introduced him to the game so has only played one or two games in total, in that way it basically was like teaching a new person. I went with the 'explain what my dudes do, talk with him about what his dudes do, say what I'm going to try before doing it, helping him see assassination possibilities' way of thinking presented by several people in this thread, and it seemed to work well for him. He was quite good at covering his caster after I arced a spell into it (starting to love Fiona), and even was able to make an (albeit long-shot) assassination attempt himself pretty quickly thereafter (I'm not a very good player so that also makes it easier to face me I guess). On thing I didn't see mentioned here yet (sorry if I missed it!) is that we sat down together and built/primed some models before we played, and I found that a really nice way to work with a new player. All I really did was glue some pressgangers to bases that I had neglected to do properly, but I was able to help him fix some of his models that came apart and he was assemble some troops he never got around to putting together and playing with, which probably also made the experience more positive for him I think. For people who are completely new to tabletop gaming like younger people would be, I think this might be an important aspect. They see the cool models, they buy a box with all these pieces and although its not that hard for them to figure it out, but just having a more experience person maybe lend them some glue and sit with them chatting and helping when needed can really strengthen the social aspect of the game from my own personal experience thus far, not sure if that is a thing for other people.

Agreed with the idea of using hobby stuff to introduce people to it. I know when I started, hanging out with someone for a paint session or two helped get me on the right track hobby-wise. One other thing I’ve done is bring pinning stuff and help them pin or pin for them some of the fiddly models that break all the time.

Last weekend we had a small no-theme-forces 50/75pts tournament. Basically all our local tournaments are 50/75 which means most players play 75pts but everyone has to be prepared to play a 50pts game against newer players who prefer such games. We had one new , young player this time and, unfortunately, an odd number of players. He lost his first game and got a "bye" from our tournament keeping program, but one of our WTC players (you may know Dziekan from the PoM subforum) voluntarily took that bye, sat alongside the newbie and helped him win his second game with a few small tweaks to the list (he borrowed him models) and a few pieces of in-game advice. It was great, and as a result of better understanding of his army and improved morale after this success he followed to win his third game too He's sure to return to our future tournaments, having enjoyed this one immensely (both games and friendly and accomodating attitude of everyone around) and hopefully soon will become a capable player on his own.

I'm going to be doing a teaching day for a couple of friends-of-a-friend next month, which should be good times. I'm told they have the makings of fluff bunnies so on top of all the battleboxes I can muster I'll also be bringing my Command books. Maybe if we're lucky there will be other interested parties at the shop that day, though I haven't put out any sort of advertising since it's just a friends thing.

Our FLGS started up our first MkIII Journeyman League this past Monday, and I'm making it a point to talk to the new players, specifically. Told them that, while I'm no expert, I've been playing casually for years, and I'm happy to answer questions, play games, even share advice, give suggestions, pause/rewind/talk through activations or attacks, etc.
I'd rather grow our community and make sure those new to the game are enjoying their matches and slowly growing in understanding and confidence, because it's better to lose a match by helping someone learn to enjoy Warmachine than take advantage just to snag a win.
Now, I'm certainly going to try to win during the tournament rounds at the end, but I think that's more than reasonable. We also only have a couple of new players (though a few, like myself, are playing new secondary armies) so I will certainly have competition anyway.

Nice! Journeyman leagues are great.
There's a store about an hour away from me that just started a JML for an up-swell of new players but I haven't been able to make it up there to talk to people.
