Unfortunately, I can't think of a good list in theme that allows both Northkin Raiders and an SSC. I think they have great synergy with the HHH, and I want to try them in a SotN list with Grim2. Seems like a decent cryx/grymkin drop. With mortality, they go up to pow 14, and boosted w/ oil! Grim2 seems to provide answers to a lot of the cloud lists that are popping up as well, though I'm not sure that he can necessarily go head to head with the likes of Haley3 or Nemo3. Raiders with a unit of Croak Raiders under Grim2 is on my list of lists to play (after I purchase Croaks). Alternatively, Grim2 with a Hooch Hauler to do the same, but with the benefit of being in faction, not having to juggle 10 more models, and for tearing down a lot more armor. I'm actually really leaning on Grim2 or Grissel2 as my not-Madrak1 caster choice, since everyone seems to be teching against Madrak these days (side note, it's nice to be a "real" faction again). Here's the list that I was planning on trying soon. Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Storm of the North
(Grim 2) Hunters Grim [+25]
- Glacier King [35]
- Ice Troll [9]
- Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)]
Fell Caller Hero [0(5)]
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6]
- Northkin Elder [3]
Northkin Fire Eaters [7]
Northkin Fire Eaters [7]
Northkin Raiders (max) [15]
Hearthgut Hooch Hauler [18]Grim2 answers a lot of questions in the current meta...cloud wall denial, armor cracking via mortality and boosted fire shots. Really excited to give the lists a try.

They cost £68 here in the UK, that's about 95 USD! Which is why, although they are lovely models, with good rules, I will probably never own a unit. Unless they come up on ebay for cheap. Sad really. +1 !

Yea until I see a HHH for sale for less than $100 I won't be going near that thing. Almost every list I play has 20-30 infantry on the table so I have no problem with including another unit and atm the plan is a min unit. And while they don't benefit from the feat they do benefit from Mortality.

My question about them is are they different enough from fire eaters to justify the purchase? They seem like they fill the same roll to me.

I was skeptical of them but took the plunge because it was Christmas and have been very impressed with them. I run them and FEs both in my Bearka list. In some ways they fill a similar role but with different styles. FEs are more streaky, they either are immortal gods who make repeated tough rolls... or they kill themselves with box car fire rolls. The Raiders are more consistent. Both are good tarpits, same Def, close Arm. Raiders have a larger footprint and longer range, plus built in Pathfinder is really nice (god why don't FEs have Pathfinder).

They are more of a jam unit that can take buffs well. FEs are pretty much pure infantry removal. I include both in many lists.

Fire Eaters can be good against quite a large range of targets, light beasts and ARM17-18 heavies can actually take a significant amount of damage from their boosted sprays which only gets better if you can get a couple of charge attacks off as well.

AKA stolen goods? :-S No, it's just that Discount Games sells what are practically new models on the cheap just because a customer returned the item. Even regular retail discounts can be nice. Miniature Market has nice discounts and sales sometimes too.

I got a second NIB unit in trade for a unit of Doom Reavers and Fenris (neither of which I had any interest in ever using)... deals can be had.

What I plan to do is get a second Barrel Rider so that I have 12 Raider models then mod up one of the female sculpts to serve as a second unit commander. That way I will have two minimum units. :)

I bought the 2 barrel riders in pre-release for that reason. Sometimes I want my raiders to separate and surround. You're paying the same PPU regardless of size for that unit. So it's not like you're hamstringing yourself bringing 2 min units.

Or get a bits order wolf pelt like the one from Ruin.
