My gaming club will have an in house Cup-style tournament during the spring. We will submit lists, and then every one will play every one during the course of the year, and we keep track of the games and see who wins the most. Very prestigious
I did not want to reveal my list tech yet (we havent submitted lists yet) so yesterday i checked War Room for something i wanted to try out but never got around to. The lot fell on Horgle 2.
Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points

(Horgle 2) Horgle, the Anvil [+29]
- Glacier King [35]
- Trollkin Runebearer [0(5)]

Gremlin Swarm [3]
Valka Curseborn, Chieftain of the North [0(6)]
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (max) [9]
- Northkin Elder [3]
Long Riders (max) [20]
Northkin Bear Handle & Battle Bears [10]

The components of the list are fairly standard fair tbh. Bears and FEs... Super unexpected right? The Long riders are a bit more unusual, and no champions in sight. Also, a single Gargantuan as the battle group which is very unusual for me.
The basic idea was to have IR on the long riders early on to make them ARM 22, and have FS on the GK so he can light things up for the feat. Sure, the FEs can help with that too. Late game, i want to switch IR over to the GK, and if he is intact he will be a real pain at ARM 23 once i have killed some threats to him.
I played two games with him yesterday. Both were on the same scenario, and it was in Standoff (very beneficial to having an army that can go wide and has units to score). First game was against Abby 2 in oracles. She had 2 carniveans, proteus, seraph, neraph, naga and support. I went second (which was pretty damned good tbh) an my opponent was a bit cautious and built "Fort Abby" centrally. I basically fanned out wide on my left with FEs, and had long riders centrally, in range of Proteus, but nothing else. The GK had to hold down the right flank.
He advanced Carniveans and shot a FE each but due to hilarious dice, all he did was to light them on fire for me (CID). He capped one with the Naga though. Due to bear-o-phobia he did not contest the left zone, and the right zone was only contested by swamp gobbers in a cloud. I have the GK aim and shoot down the swamp gobbers (sounds like a waste, but is super critical). Bears ambush in on the left to score that zone. Long riders charge forward (two charge, the rest run behind). They do little damage perhaps, but they contest his zone and restrict movement a lot. They are ARM 22 cause the stone is full. Fire eaters hang back and score the left zone. 3-0 to me and the game is basically over.
He uses his feat and basically the entire army to kill the long riders. He scores his zone and contest all the others. He has hilariously bad dice, but he wouldnt have killed a lot more if they werent as bad. He would have had less Fury on the board though. 3-1 to me. If i can score 3 points i win. I have to kill a Helion in my zone (caster, fell caller and runebearer and a FE on that guy), the GK has to kill a helion AND a neraph in the right zone. and my two bears (Neraph failed to kill any of them, due to awful dice as well as a no-knockdown tough) have to kill the objective. In short, i feat and those things happen and i win on scenario.
Second game is against Xeekar in the minions theme. He has Hydra, Wrastler, Blindwalker, Gladiator, Brigands and support. I go second again.
Very similar feeling here. He runs up a bit. In short i fan out the long riders in the left zone. He could charge one with the Hydra. The GK runs up in the right and middle zones and the FEs spread out all across the board.
He tries to arc dead weight on a FE near the GK (oops!) but misses... twice... He feats but has done no work. I mostly wait out the feat, but two long riders go in. One on the Hydra and one on his caster, camping 0. I do 10 points to him just to keep him honest lol. GK and FEs shoot the blind walker, but do not quite kill it. I ambushed one unit of bears on the right and charge a few Brigands, but they are not very good at it... I score my zone so 1-0.
He does a very limited amount of work. Killing the two Longriders in his zone, but not the Gremlin Swarm i ran to contest. His dice were awful, sure, but model placement were such that it wouldnt have mattered super much. The Hyrda killed one long rider. Blinwalker charges the GK under Rage, and does a bit of damage. That was it. I think he killed a bear with combined shooting and charging from the brigands. In response, i feat and use the GK to light up the hydra with a shot, and kill the Blindwalker with more shots. Then i has my 3 long riders charge the Hydra under feat and +2 STR. They get it to 1 box, and a fire eater finishes it off. Valka gets hold of the gremlin swarm he had in the left zone, and bears ambush in to score that zone as well as threaten his Titan if he goes after the longriders. I score 2 zones, so 3-0.
At this point he has nothing left to do basically. He cant really score his zone, and he can not meaningfully contest the left zone or my zone. He sends in the wrastler (with Rush) against the GK and leave it on 6 boxes. He even clocks out, but the important thing was that attrition was not going his way, and scenario was absolutely F-ed.
So, take these reports for what they are worth. I played two games with a semi random list. I had a fast list that still hit hard and was resilient. The Long Riders were hilariously hard to deal with for both opponents. It is an awesome change of pace to the good ol' PoD lists that brick up and try to win by turn 6 after killing every model on the table. It is super refreshing being fast and able to spread out and score scenario. Im not saying PoD is dead or anything, but SR2017 surely shaked things up a lot, and those who do not adapt to scenario risk being run over. And it is pretty fun to run over ppl!*
