Greetings! Ive been playing Trollbloods in my local meta for a while now, and I've fallen in love with the faction; however, while there are several strong points, it doesnt seem like Trollbloods have much to show in terms of actual tournament results. Is this because of a lack of popularity? or what is keeping Trollbloods out of the top tables? Last relevant result I could find was from the WTC 2017, and while 7th is nice (and I've been using that list to great success locally), it was the first trollbloods result in months. www.discountgamesinc.com/tournaments/players/view/1575

I don't think that there are many that are relevant at this point. When the Storm of the North and CID mods dropped, the faction changed a lot, and any results from before that are not terribly relevant any more. Heck, until the Hooch Hauler actually ships, they still might not be, because that thing seems likely to hit our lists like a brick and become a cornerstone of about half the Storm lists you see out there.

I guarantee once all these CiD changes settle in the troll community you will see trolls placing somewhere. mazog is right though. Anything before now outside of some PoD builds is going to be significantly different thanks to all the new changes.

Trolls have been (at least perceived as) weak basically since Madrak 2 got nerfed over a year ago. In that time we have been underrepresented in the number of good players who play them, as well as in actual big tournament results. We have gotten a LOT of love in the last few months, and hopefully we will see a resurgence, but the big con wins may take a while to start rolling in. On a more local level though, trolls have been totally fine all the time imo. I have gone 3-1 in every single (16 man) tournament this year, except for one, where i was 4-0. It is sort of like golf. If you are a world class top player, you need to get the best clubs available to get that minuscule edge over the other top tier players. If you like me, are a happy amateur, you can do decently well with what ever clubs you have. Your goal is mostly to stay on the actual course, and if you shoot 10 yards shorter than you could with deluxe clubs matters way less than the fact that you miss the fairway by 100 yards to the right like 5 times per round... As a troll player who is not of WTC caliber i am not feeling held back by my faction, especially not post CID. When i am up against a WTC player i hope to beat them, and sometimes i do, but mostly i do not. That is not because my faction is worse than theirs though, but rather that they play the game better than i do. If you (like me) love the troll faction, then this is a great time to be alive. ALL of our casters are now tournament viable, and ALL of our themes are too. Some are more viable than others, but you could play almost any model you wish (though not any COMBINATION of models) and still do well enough. Focus on that rather than WTC results imo

Would love to hear which of the lists you've been using from the wtc 2017 lists and what your experience was. It's always interesting to learn about someone else's experiences with your own lists.
I altered the doomshaper list to reflect cid and the welcome addition of minions. Horgle2 straight up got replaced by madrak1 however.
As far as tournament results go, I've gone 4-0 and 3-1 in my local 32+ person steamrollers with this pairing since wtc.

I can only fully agree with Trollock . I am running list that I like and kind work for me most of the time Currently Iam running Grim1 POD (No stone) with double bomber, Mulg, mauler axer and Dahlia and Skarath. it has gotten me about a 70% win ratio. To complement that (or as other might say does not) I run Kolgrima in BOH with full fens, full LR and the champ boat with fellcaller and champion hero. Again no stone, mauler and a earthborn Next week I will be attending a 12 man tournament and I will see how kolgrima will do against the intended targets (high arm infantry spam, recursion and shooty lists) I am a very casual player (maybe 1 game in a month) and in my last tournament I went 2-2 with two completely different casters. My MO. Surprise assassinations (Denny1 in trench killed by a bomber drift, trampling, overtaking mulg to eat a caster), or my stupidity (Borka2 forgetting to feat 3 times in a row in a single game, winning a game on points and not getting that until I won. Was my very first tournament couple years ago.) or my luck (not failing a single tough check in a single game to my opponents frustration. I was even using his dice at a given time) I find that my most fun games are with opponents that can see the humor and get my humor It is just a game. I roll some dice and when you do, I drink some beer.

For what it's worth we had a 100+ man masters in the UK and Andy Garrard from the England WTC went 4-0 and then dropped as he had a Christining on the Sunday.
He was running Madrak1 with Double Champs, Fennblades and a Glacier King and dropped that every round. If he didn't end up dropping he would've had a very good chance of placing well and maybe even winning it.
Trolls also had the best win percentage of any faction at the tournament.

Trolls also had the best win percentage of any faction at the tournament. So, he was the only troll player and thus we had 100% win rate? Seriously though. I have great hopes for trolls in 2018. And who knows what happens in June, when SR2018 shows up

He can tell you what he played.
I think there where 5 of us in total, so we're still niche.

As far as tournament results go, I've gone 4-0 and 3-1 in my local 32+ person steamrollers with this pairing since wtc. The Doomshaper 3 list; I had to cut some support due to the point changes to Mulg, but he is a downright nasty beast; currently my meta has a lot of High ARM (Khador), recursion (Testament / Cryx) and very little infantry. The only thing that kind of shoots it down is Legion with several beasts doing GW (Absylonia 2 lists, also because they push for the caster kill easily). The feat makes Orboros roll into a corner and weep, and anything short of Khador heavies gets pasted into a mulch by Mulg (its kind of insulting how easily he murders ARM18 heavys). The scrolls are fun to play with, and the one for free rage cycling feels like a second feat on its own (and the lamentation one wrecks Butcher 3, who was the caster-to-beat for a while here). Basically, it plays like a very solid break that you just cant remove and will hit you like a freight truck when it gets there. Havent had a chance to try the Horgle 2 list due to not having the models at hand, from what I played of Horgle 2 before it was kinda hard to get enough things on fire to matter. My current 2nd list is PoD Gunnbjorn. Dozer/Smigg is so very useful, and guided fire with a bunch of bombers or a GK is just unfair. Last thing we played was a couple tournament; only lost to a Kreos list because I forgot to feat with Gunnbjorn, tabled Khador, tabled Cryx, and made an Orboros player retire his Una2 mini to the showcase shelf xD (its no fun at slamming griphons into Trolls, and Mulg could almost 1-shot them).

I think trolls are going to be considerably more popular in 2018 than they in any point of mk3. Kolgrima is fantastic, the CID made the faction more appealing (notably, though not exclusively, madrak1). The ADR for trolls is very strong too. Hopefully this should mean more players, and more good tournament results. My lists were Madrak1, gunnbjorn with GK and MK as a cygnar drop, and borka1 as a Cryx drop. I didn’t play borka1, and only played gunnbjorn once (and lost). This is the madrak1 list I play now. It was slightly different for Blood & Oil, with max long riders and a champ hero instead of min riders, whelps and Eilish. Andy Garrard (who is a considerably better player than me!) plays a similar list. I know his battlegroup only has the GK, and I’m sure there are other differences, but the core is the same. Madrak Ironhide, Thornwood Chieftain - WB: +29 - Trollkin Runebearer - PC: 0 - Glacier King - PC: 35 (Battlegroup Points Used: 29) - Night Troll - PC: 7 Eilish Garrity, the Occultist - PC: 5 Troll Whelps - 5 Whelps: 4 Fell Caller Hero - PC: 0 Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes - Leader & 3 Grunts: 6 - Stone Scribe Elder - PC: 3 Trollkin Champions - Leader & 4 Grunts: 16 Trollkin Champions - Leader & 4 Grunts: 16 Trollkin Long Riders - Leader & 2 Grunts: 12 THEME: Band of Heroes
