I think they should have Prey as it's thematic. Also I reckon we'll get a hunting theme at some point. One based around Grim and Grim2, One of it's benefits would be Scouts with Ambush. Scouts should honestly just get ambush and prey inherently. Would make them see play in Kriel Company for sure. mattmcd alright so you want a list with madrack 1 that has bad models that may actually work...alright *rolls up sleeves hands stein to keggy* Lets do this....*cracks knuckles. Madrack1: -2 Bouncers -Impaler -Moses 2 Skinners Max stone with elder Max fenblades with UA and sorcerer Max Champs with Skaldi Sons of Brag Fell Caller Chronicler Basically the idea is to skew Def with a bunch of fast moving hard hitting models. Fens under solid ground become def 16 with feign death, Skinners either roam around with the army at Def 15 (19 against beasts) and hug terrain to gain prowl as well. Send them in to contest and jam and hit with the odd Pow 10 WM charge. Or you can ambush them and go for a flag or back line models. Sons of brag are Def 15 no knockdown and can get to def 17 with he chronicler if need be. Guided hand makes them more accurate and madracks feat helps deliver them. Its not a horrible list but it isn't exactly good. I think Skinners might actually work with madrack 1. Honestly I wish they were allowed in Storm of the North instead. They could be Pow 11 under northkin stone, could use the 4" drifts to proc prowl, and could ambush with the bears. Pow 11 with 5 dice damage against beasts is not too shabby.

Exactly. I’m hoping this helps us look at things we have written off previously. For instance, with Madrak1 scouts (boxes, full healing on feat) and burrowers (def 19 and blast damage immune) might actually be able to be delivered. Lookouts coming soon might pair up with them well and create something worth testing. OK, lets check through some of the less used models that may be more useful with Madrak 1 then... Troll ImpalerMadrak makes good use of the animus. A bomber is usually way better, but since Madrak can often run infantry based lists, the Impaler is a decent target to trigger Charge of the Trolls. Set Defense also brings him to DEF 16 against charges, and that is not nothing. Janissa Stonetide + Trollkin RuneshapersJanissa sees a lot of play, but Runeshapers do not and rightfully so imo. If you play PoD with Madrak, you could consider this module. They have pathfinder, so getting concealment is not unreasonable, and then they go to DEF 16 against shooting without having to dig in. With Guided Hand, they could actually trigger Battle Wizard and do more work against infantry, or extend the threat range of their knock down ability by charging something first. Kriel Warriors They are cheap. With DEF 14 and no knock down, they are actually unreasonably hard to kill for their cost. With Guided Hand, they can actually do work against infantry. They still do not kill heavies, but you can not trample over them, so you have to actually kill them to get past, and a tough roll will stop you cold. They count towards free points in both BoH and SotN. Do not forget they exist! Sons of BraggDEF 15 is in the territory where you sort of need to boost to hit them. If they survive a shot, they could heal quite a bit from the feat. If they can not be charged, their short threat range is less crippling. Probably you will want to bring Saxon along if you have them. Pathfinder is always good, and if they have concealment, they go to DEF 17 against shooting. Even boosted shots start missing then... At least some of them.

Troll Basher (CID) With potentially 4 dice to hit, getting a crit is much more reliable. Making huge bases lose attacks is fun!

I'll chime in with Scouts and all the other Def 13 models, who become challenging to hit, and will mostly find Guided Hand extremely useful. Scouts and pygs with AD and pathfinder might just not suck.

I just got back from a Big UK Tournament. Blood and Oil.
I'd like to submit my Madrak1 list as a bad list.
Madrak1 - Runebearer - Bomber - Mauler Max Champs Max Champs Max Longriders Max stone + UA Fell caller Hero Champ Hero Eilish
I went 3-3 and I learnt a lot. This list looks good at first glance but it has glaring weaknesses.

I think you need a screen unit in there. I also think Far Strike is a trap. It makes you want to use Blood boon which often puts you in unecessary danger. I'm going to run a Gargantuan with him going forward.

Dug in burrowers would be hellish to remove, actually. Def 19 and no blast damage? No thank you. Even in melee they will be def 15 which means super accurate models that have far better things to be doing, or boosting to kill a pyg, which had got to feel bad. And that's not even considering the whelp annoyance effect. Also, swamps with Animus go to def 16 against sitting and most living melee, which is also obnoxious. I'm pretty sure this list didn't win the contest.

I played Burrowers quite a bit at the start of MK 3 with Grissel 2. They were also DEF 19 vs ranged, and had grissels gun to knock things down for them to shoot at. They even had Dash to walk in to back arcs. The problem was, that even if they were fairly annoying to kill, they just do not contribute enough. Unboosted POW 14 is a high powered gun, but it does very little to a heavy, even if they can get in range and hit it. It will murder infantry, but then they need to hit AND be able to reach with a 10" threat range.
Imo, Burrowers were the best unit in the game in MK2, but they got the MK3 multi-nerf and became unplayable. If you want DEF 15, just play Raiders imo...
