My friend is selling one at a discounted price. As my first and only gargantuan , where does it fit in? Can someone help me wrap my head around the different synergies with casters/ themes?
Thanks

I have been playing it with several casters with good results. Horgle 2, Doomy 3 and Ragnor can make it hard to kill, and the animus becomes very relevant if it can face tank stuff. Grissle 2 and Gunnbjorn can make it hit reliably without boosting, allowing it to pump out a lot of damage at range, especially with the new elder. Gunnbjorn and Grim 2 can allow it to shoot really far, allowing it to hang back, or strike really deep. Doomy 1 can allow it to punch ppl that come near it, making them stationary during their activation In many cases you say "but isnt the MK better?" and in many cases it is. But i think the GK fits very well in a list with only one more beast (usually a light) so you can get 60 points of infantry for theme bonuses. Such a list will not have Rage for it, but with auto stationary on the fists, a good ranged output to soften up and control enemy heavies it can still deal with a LOT of ARM imo, and it will be superb against the heavies that rely on DEF rather than ARM. Not all lists are made up of 10 Khador heavies. I think it has lots of game with many casters. Gunny is one of my favorites in theory, but the MK is ALSO super good with him (explosivo + guided fire + kill shot + assault) so you would pretty much need to run double gargantuans lol. Get it, play it and see where you like it. You could probably proxy it as a MK when playing with your friends so you have something to compare to. Once you are rich and famous, buy one of each king

I have never fielded it myself, but I like it on paper. He fits in with the new mk3 MMM Madrak1 list: Madrak1 - Glacier King Max Champs Max Champs Max Fennblades Max Stone Free solos Jackhammer stationary fists seems good. Or I Like it with Grimm2 KC to take advantage of Mage Sight and threat a little assassination. OR even potentially with Madrak3 if you play him. GK can max out due to Soothing Song, it likes Spell Piercer, Madrak har armor buff for it AND shield guard. All 3 of my suggestions he is the only beast in the battlegroup. I like the Gargantuans in that way, since in mk3 due to higher WB points, it's not that much of an investment. He has a decent gun, can punch in melee without needing the Rage tax, and can sometimes survive a heavy charging him. Not a big fan of him in PoD, since PoD casters would rather have the MK or a handfull of Heavies insted. Maybe except for Doomy1 for some stationary Guardian Beast hits - but that is propably corner case (since Doomy does'nt really support GK). My 2 cents

I want to run one in kriel company under grim2. His aura stacks well with def13 infantry and he has a cool gun. Really ups the knockdown which means a lot to our low-rat ladz.

Madrak1 can do some silly assassinations with it, fits well into PoD or Storm of the North.
Glacier King also works well under Grim2. Not sure how well Grim2 fits into the game at the moment but unless you're trying to win a Masters or something it should be more than good enough for local play.

GK synergies well with Grissel2 cos concealment stack with deflection, feat gives arm and KD gun helps GK to hit. Really like following list:
Trollbloods Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Band of Heroes
(Grissel 2) Grissel Bloodsong, Marshal of the Kriels [+27] - Dire Troll Bomber [19] - Glacier King [35] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Swamp Gobber Chef [1] Trollkin Champion Hero [0(5)] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] Trollkin Champions (max) [16] - Skaldi Bonehammer [5] Trollkin Warders (max) [17]
Fury management is a little problem so beasts can't use their full potential every turn, but just won't manage to fit whelps in.

Having run into an increase in opposing Steady effects in our venue, either globally or warlock/warcaster specific, has led me to include a multi-shot Stationary gun to my assassination-attempt lists (i.e. Hello GK!) Stationary effect is a RAT 'buff' that has fewer built in counters. The key is: How many other assassins can I include with my GK? C'mon PP, make Burrowers great again!

I really like that list, going to have to try that one. Janissa easily giving elevation to grissel or the bomber is going to make for a scary assassination threat.
I think the northkin elder comes out in two weeks though; once he's out the turn 1 speed and +2 pow on shooting for the GK is going to change lists up a lot

I think regular elder is better with Grissel2. POW16 GK is really nice and one more sdp helps firts turn, but option to get rid of incorporeal and stealth is too good to skip. But it depends on what matchups you are going to use Grissel.

I think the Bouncer is superb with Grissel 2 as a target for Discord. Just run it at infantry and they will never get rid of it. That frees up some points too (assuming you drop a Mauler). Your list is missing both things to contest the opponents zone and things to score your round zone. Swamp Gobbers can do either duty in a pinch. that leaves you with 4 more points.
The Bog Trog Mist Speaker in CID can grant eyeless sight to non-faction stuff. That is an interesting option. Lanyssa Ryssyl can help your GK threaten further in melee, and the enemy always have to respect that, even if you play a mainly ranged focused list.
You have a good core for your list. Both attrition and assassination looks fine, but scenario may be too hard, so you might have to give up some attrition advantage by splitting up the second Mauler...

I like it. At first I wanted to minimize the stone, but the totem Hunter is a fun and scary model. The only thing I'd think about, and this is sketchy, is trading the max stone for min and sorcerer so you could have another range 10 attack to nail something that got knocked down. Volume of attacks is really low on the list, so you might just want one more in exchange for storing one less fury in the Stone.
