To be fair, you could already do that in PoD indeed and now he can do even more with the stone keeping itself fueled Yes and no. You could do it the first turn...but the following turns you are paying for all those upkeeps. Now they are just free every turn so you always have fury to either swap upkeeps or shoot stuff.

Madrka1 BoH is my first stop. I'm pretty happy to the changes to my Borka2 PoD / Grissel2 BoH pair, but M1 BoH is looking crazy! I'm seriously considering running it without warders because, between Sanguine Bond and Def 14, shooting seems likely to be much less relevant.

Also, you can only upkeep them for free on NK models, so not on jarl himself or certain warbeasts. my point was, Jarl works very well in PoD too

What do you normally take with Jarl in PoD? I did end up trying Jarl last night in SotN and it felt very strong. It really did fix the major issues i had with him before this theme/update dropped (being so fury starved). I mostly focused on my units for my spells (tact supremacy on the stone, juggled Quicken as needed between the Long Riders and Champs) so I always upkept them for free which made it so I had 6 fury at turn to pump into shooting things and magic bullets which was fun. I knew the champs were good...donnt think I gave them enough credit for how good though. Overall it was a super fun list to play and with some practice I could do much better with it. The stone change was nice despite me rolling a "1" literally every turn I used Awaken Stone. Arcane repeater on the Runebearer was amazing, especially when placing his clouds. So I imagine casters like Calandra, Borka2 and Madrak 1 that use their control range every turn for their spells will find it even better. So far I am super pleased with the Troll update. Next up it's time to jump on the Madrak 1 Band of Heroes bandwagon!

I always thought they were playable, albeit overcosted and underperforming, with some casters (read as calandra) before the changes and haven't had a chance to put them down yet. I'm thinking about randomly dusting them off tomorrow for a tournament but I might just go with the madrak2/gunny pairing I've been using. what did your list look like?

I'm thinking about randomly dusting them off tomorrow for a tournament but I might just go with the madrak2/gunny pairing I've been using. what did your list look like? This is what I played last night. I know it's not super streamlined, just had a lot of the new stuff I wanted to try and I knew I would enjoy using: Trollblood - Jarl SotN 75pts Theme: Storm of the North 3 / 3 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army Jarl Skuld, Devil of the Thornwood - WB: +30 - Trollkin Runebearer - PC: 0 - Dire Troll Bomber - PC: 19 (Battlegroup Points Used: 19) - Dire Troll Mauler - PC: 15 (Battlegroup Points Used: 11) - Pyre Troll - PC: 8 Fell Caller Hero - PC: 0 Swamp Gobber Chef - PC: 1 Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes - Leader & 3 Grunts: 6 - Stone Scribe Elder - PC: 3 Northkin Fire Eaters - Leader, Trollkin Grunt, and Pyg Grunt: 7 Northkin Fire Eaters - Leader, Trollkin Grunt, and Pyg Grunt: 7 Trollkin Champions - Leader & 4 Grunts: 16 - Skaldi Bonehammer - PC: 0 - Trollkin Sorcerer - PC: 3 Trollkin Long Riders - Leader & 4 Grunts: 20 THEME: Storm of the North My friend was playing Strakov2 in the Ironfang theme (cant remember what it was called). Before last night I hadnt played Trolls in almost 6 months and it was the first time playing this list or any of the updated units. Still, the list did very well (he had just strakov, 1 great bear and a clamp jack on turn 4) so I am sure with some practice I could do even better. The only thing I am considering right now is dropping the Bomber for Rok as I think killing jacks/other hard targets will be the issue for this list. I will try it out both ways.

I'm going back to Doomy3. New Mulg is awesome, but I'm more excited about the minion add. Adding some cheap scenario runners is a huge boost in the current scenario enviroment. Gremlin Swarms seems like great choice, there is probably alot more counter tech in the meta thanks too Grymkin. The rune bearer getting Doomy's control up to 16" also helps spread out tremendously. The 2" extra inches might not seem like a lot, but I think it will surprise people. I still think Doomy3 is the best caster in our faction, he just struggled in SR. He may have the tools now to reclaim his place of power! I hope at least.

I’m most excited about this list right here. I’ll absolutely be swapping in the Northkin Elder for +2 str or +1 spd. If he comes out at 4 pts i’ll Throw in a 2pt solo. Soooo much synergy going on here: +2 def against ranged attacks. +1 speed from Grissel +1 speed from stone +2 arm from stone +2 arm from feat All of these are area effects, not unit effects!
In addition to that you’ve got pathfinder from the fell Caller on a unit allowing them to get concealment within a Forrest. Cloud effect from the bellows crew to get even more in concealment. Fire-eaters spray threats 17”, long riders threat 14”. Arm 22 long riders on the feat turn will be tough to get rid of.
On top of all that you’ve got Grissel and a bomber threating assassination the entire match (let alone fire Eaters being able to assassinate easily as well).
Theme: Storm of the North 3 / 3 Free Cards 72 / 75 Army
Grissel Bloodsong, Marshal of the Kriels - WB: +27 - Trollkin Runebearer - PC: 0 - Dire Troll Bomber - PC: 19 (Battlegroup Points Used: 19) - Pyre Troll - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 8)
Fell Caller Hero - PC: 0 Trollkin Champion Hero - PC: 5
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes - Leader & 5 Grunts: 9 - Stone Scribe Elder - PC: 3 Northkin Fire Eaters - Leader, Trollkin Grunt, and Pyg Grunt: 7 Northkin Fire Eaters - Leader, Trollkin Grunt, and Pyg Grunt: 7 Trollkin Champions - Leader & 4 Grunts: 16 - Skaldi Bonehammer - PC: 0 - Trollkin Sorcerer - PC: 3 Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew - Leader & 1 Grunt: 2 Trollkin Long Riders - Leader & 4 Grunts: 20

Looks decent. I would probably not use swamp gobbers (you have plenty of units to score with) but rather a solo that can score, such as a FG or Gremlins or something. I do not think the champ hero really adds anything to the list, so if you ditch both those guys you have 7 points to play with. Minimizing the stone would make that 10. Maybe bears? the list looks a tad light on the ARM cracking side for my taste... Longriders are certainly worth checking out again with her. +1 ARM and 2" reach makes them a LOT better feat targets than before

Is running GK worth it for +2 deff against shooting or would it be better with Bomber+Something else? What would you change and why?

I really love this battlegroup.
Seems super solid! With the theme benefits I can camp the fire Eaters in the snow for a turn at def 17 too.

The standard response to one beast lists is don't do it, it's too much of a linchpin. If they have Denny1 or Sooane and hunters they'll wreck it and you'll be stuck fitting for duty and spirit bonding for the rest of the game. I'll say go for it, though, because there is no better teacher then experience. I really like the stone scribe chronicler in Band, and with Madrak1, and with Fennblades. You've got a terrific amount of working models, but you're, I suspect, going to have a hard time applying more than two units at a time unless your opponent brings a massive dude spam like ghost fleet. I'd consider breaking up a unit or minimizing it to get a little more support, but I tend to go heavy on support and have to pull it back when I revise lists.

I'll be trying Grim1 (KC)/Ragnor (PoD) as a pairing for a while. I'm trying very hard to commit to the 5 game minimum for each list I currently have in my bag. I've got 3 KC list and 3 PoD lists I haven't played with the updates yet.

I've no idea if it'll be any good but I don't see why it won't be fun.
