So, do we have a problem with verisimilitude because a musket should trump a twelve foot tall, thousand pound, regenerating werewolf because he only has a sword?

What happened? The wargame happened. You can't really have realistic gun ranges in a tabletop game like Warmachine because that'd just mean any sort of melee infantry that doesn't start halfway up the board is useless. I mean people say it's hard to deliver some infantry units now, with current ranges. Can you imagine what it would be like trying to deliver them if the ranges were "Basically All the Table"? So, abstractions were made, and we have a fun wargame. Infinity is one wargame that has "realistic" guns. The game is based around shooting from cover, and only advancing when you're out of LOS of the enemy (because they can shoot in reaction to an enemy becoming visible). Close combat is very niche, and mostly based around highly mobile or stealthy units that can attack from behind. Not bad, but a very different experience from Warmachine.
