Silly threat range ideas

Charging a long way is awesome. The problem i guess is that your charge target might very well be more than 16" away from lanyssa for you to use the extra range of hunters mark. Getting a free charge on things that are perhaps not super far away is very good though. Grissel already does this though...

I love slags (and all types of lights, especially night trolls i think) with Grissel 1. She can allow them to kill heavies and actually trade up. Having Slags on Horgle is nice for the fury management, but they run a serious risk of charging outside his control, or he will have to be so far forward to keep them in control that he dies afterwards. Perhaps only one of them should be on horgle.

Are you sure that list isnt missing something like a Mauler? The points dont seem right at a glance...

At one point I built a whole list around stacking buffs on lights to trade up. I called it "Grissel's Missles." The idea is sound, I just could not get a specific build that I liked. Maybe I could try again, with a mix of Bashers and Night Trolls.

Here is a counter proposal. I personally would probably not play the axer but i kept it to stay in line with your original idea.

That little night troll reaches effective POW 18 with all the buffs, and he can charge for free and make 7 attacks at MAT 8. Its amazing

The Bomber is key in this type of list i think. even with lots of buffs, your lights may not quite kill and enemy heavy alone, and the bomber can soften up a target just enough for it to become easy, but the bomber stays safe from retaliation. The plan is to use a 7 point model (with a LOT of support) to kill a heavy, and then only lose a 7 point model in return. Once you have traded a couple of lights for a couple of heavies, you still have Mauler, Mulg and Bomber left. Your list retains its power in to late game even if you lose pieces along the way.

I see: You want the big heavies in there so you can use the same buff stacking on them to take down hard targets or ensure assassinations. That, and if Mulg can arc Boundless Charge, Rush, and Rage, and especially Calamity, that makes life much easier for Grissel. I think that's a good call, even if I don't think the Bomber is the best fit here. Grissel 1 does not need Far Strike, and we already have one very expensive heavy.

So let's parse this out.

Let's say you're okay with this list not being great against infantry swarms, and can maybe even lump gun lines in there too to some extent, since the most popular of those right now are infantry-based, like WGI and Ghost Fleet. If you just want to trade up against Marauders, Neraphs, arc nodes, elite infantry, and cavalry as efficiently as possible, then you will want Night Trolls or possibly Bashers, if he does wind up getting a second initial with that open fist. Stealth on the Night Troll is also useful because combined arms lists are less likely to have an answer. The Night Troll is also not bad against the screening units that a combined arms list might use, and he can bait a trade while he's at it.

I do agree that a few ranged attacks can help to soften up harder targets and make it easier to focus fire. I just think that for once, the Bomber is not the one for the job. It's the Ice Troll. If you are buff stacking anyway, then Rage brings him right up to POW 16, just like the Bomber. A pair of Ice Trolls costs about the same points but works out better for piece trading. That is not necessarily any more efficient in terms of raw numbers for the sake of fury management, but the dynamics could still be good with other things like the Knot or simply not reaving when the one who took point died. The Ice Troll also has Crit Freeze on both ranged and melee attacks, which could be very helpful for this strategy.

The Bouncer is also notable for its animus, SG, and being hardy, and the Slag Troll for taking down jacks. I think that just about rounds out our best options to build around the core of Grissel, Mauler, Axer, and Mulg. If you want another heavy I strongly suggest either an Earthborn for its excellence as a buff platform or a second Mauler, because Rage is so crucial.

Regardless, I don't think we will wind up spamming anything here. We have more to gain from running these best bets in pairs or threes for a better toolbox overall.

No, it's not great, but it's an option and one that works with buffs that are key to the list anyway. It is inefficient in that respect, but less so in list building. FWIW, an Ice Troll will often have range in cases where a Bomber needed to use Far Strike. In that situation, one fully boosted POW 16 is 4 fury as opposed to 3- still bad but less so, and that's more like a turn 2 fury battery/positioning move than an alpha strike anyway. What is more likely is that the KSB Elder will have the Ice Troll up to a respectable POW 14 that can hurt the DEF 13 or 14 jacks and beasts against which he wants to crit fish.

Another wrinkle is that it doesn't have to be 2x Ice Trolls. Now that I think about it, 1 Ice and 1 Storm Troll might be a safer bet, depending on the meta, and how much help the list needs dealing with infantry. Sometimes I forget that Stormy also has Repulsor Field, which can make him more survivable if he is holding a choke point against enemies who have multiple attacks per model. And his animus could be a neat trick with Grissel because she can give him or herself another melee attack and another e-leap. Even Crit Disruption is better with an extra swing.

I always liked the idea of brigands with Grissel1. Here you get everything you ever wanted. All the threat with lanyssa and boundless charge. The ability to consistently land calamity thanks to puppet master. That gives you boosted puppet master pow 18 bombs, and up to pow 16 brigands. You should be able to kill an arm 20 heavy at range with that. The problem is that Mulg is a linchpin. However, being able to yo-yo him back and forth with guardian protector and hoof it gives you some really interesting movement shenanigans.
