Scaverous was my main caster in Mk2, but I feel that even though very little changed about him, I feel like he's a very different beast in Mk3 due to game rule changes.
So, to any Scav players out there, how do you best use him? I find at least two arc nodes, a fast unit like raiders or riders, and a skarlock thrall to be mandatory.

Multiattack infantry are good for soul harvester. (raiders) Warwitch, overloards are great for his feat. Inprefer the WSC instead of skarlock. you an only really use TK as a spell slave spell. Might as well get a sturdier uni and a free upkeep with feated spells.
Bane Warriors can actually be decent with him With the +2 Arm and tough they become respectable. And choosing columns is so much fun with banes.
IMHO the only things absolutely required things are a couple arc nodes and the Croes throats. With TK and their natural backstab they become absolutely a threat to most things on the table. even knocked down(Or stationary with erebus) heavies affected by dark shroud and feast of worms

Scabs is also one of the few casters that can efficiently run Bloodgorgers (along with Skarre2). Deathward/Soulharvester and Icy Grip makes them tough and almost efficient.

I was almost going to put in bloodgorgers as well. For a little cheaper in points and with the combo they are fun. i put in the raiders in my example list for models to set up that knockdown dark shroud comvo i mentioned. Bloodgorgers can also hide scavvy with those medium bases. Food for thought

I absolutely love scaverous, the only weakness he has is my ability to pkay him on the clock. With so much flexibility he can deal with just about everything.
This is my final version of my balanced scav list. It is fun to play has a ton of answers and poses difficult questions. Cryx - scaverous all comers

I like DJ in scav lists too for more TK goodness. Especially before he charges. Im curious though about why the Pirates and Rengrave? 14 points is alot of an investment for them withiut any Rifles. What made them win over say Overlords and a deathripper? Im assuming senario presence? If thats the case why not mechanithralls with surgeon?

The module is definitely for scenario, If I need to I place Rengrave in a contesting position and all of his crew 5" behind him in a semi-circle making him an absurdly hard to remove piece. They also give scaverous a good target for soulharvester as crew can kill some infantry especially given tk's or a rare icy grip, and they are a good spot to dump excarnate generated models in case that the situation comes up. Also as for direct comparison to mechthralls, the pirates hit more accurately, have a higher defense and the recurion on them is harder to remove, the accuracy is the major part though.

i havent used croes with him. mainly due to not having them until recently.
tk, a reaper, and banes usually does it
usually dont take dj or nightmare as i feel he doesnt really help them.
id agree with raiders.
a couple nodes.
i do feel wsc is a must for upkeeping and a free tk and rerolls.
also think his feat is a trap. making you want to take a whole bunch of magic using stuff.
take darragh wrathe and we&sj and he can tank with effective arm 21 vs hordes and what works out to be def 16 with starcrossed
AND forcing rerolls?
sure...

Bane Warriors can actually be decent with him With the +2 Arm and tough they become respectable. And choosing columns is so much fun with banes. That's not how Deathward works though. It's if the model with Deathward is a warjack that you get to choose column, not if the model(s) with Deathward damage another model. On topic: Ws others have said Croe's Cutthroats are insanely good with him, but don't expect them to crack any real armour, they still cap at boosted POW 10's, so about 20 damage. That's without Feast of Worms, but Feast + boosted TK is the full 7 focus, so it's hard to count on. You will want something for Soul Harvester, this is preferably a unit and preferably an accurate one with multiple attacks, but others have had success with something else, like a Stalker. Also something for Deathward while you're not putting it on yourself, either an infantry unit that has naturally high armour, such as Banes or Bloodgorgers, or can just be a heavy jack. I like Erebus with him, but if you have a solid unit for Soul Harvester, you don't need him that much, he's still nice, but Deathjack or Barathrum can be great too. Many people also like Wrong Eye here, Star Crossed with forced rerolls can make for a great DEF skew, and you get another heavy that's cheap to maintain. Just keep in mind that he needs your opponent's help to really shine, you will want 2-3 souls per turn, preferably more and he's pretty bad into gunlines due to his medium base. For this you might want Gunslingers and/or Gorman. Like someone else mentioned, don't build for this feat. The main benefit is for himself, if you have other models with Magic Ability that still need to activate, then cool, but don't let it cloud your judgement. It's either an assassination tool or a "TK everything" tool, anything else is gravy.

I would recommend the Withershadow Combine over the Skarlock Thrall one hundred percent of the time. Free upkeep plus puppet master on top of spell slave! Yes thank you. Raiders are a must, as in any list, and I think two arcnodes are plenty. Which two is really a matter of preference. I find Scaverous is very good at the assassination game and I almost feel he does it better than controlling the board. His feat doesn't prevent anyone from doing anything and I agree with most that building lists towards boosted spellcasting might be a bit of trap, though when it pays off it's wonderful. Coupled with a pile of souls his feat, timed right, makes him even more murderous than he otherwise has the potential to be. He's a caster that can go to 11 really quickly. He's surprisngly capable in melee with the exception of his low MAT. His big drawback, I find, is the need for souls to really power his mischief. Against jack spam, beast bricks, and such it can be pretty hard to get as much work out of him as I like to get. This is the list I've been testing Scaverous with for awhile now. Another 5-10 games and I'll start swapping things out. conflictchamber.com/#b41b373a19190t1y1N1P2B2B3h1u72Cryx Army - 75 / 75 points (Scaverous 1) Lord Exhumator Scaverous [+27] - Erebus [16] - Deathripper [6] - Deathripper [6] - The Withershadow Combine [9] Bane Warriors (min) [10] Satyxis Raiders (max) [16] - Satyxis Raider Sea Witch [3] Warwitch Siren [4] Warwitch Siren [4] Iron Lich Overseer [5] - Seether [13] Croe's Cutthroats (min) [10] List thoughts: From earlier incarnations of the list I find Croe's are much better in a full unit as it's easy enough to pick off a few and render a min unit somewhat ineffective. I could probably drop one of the Warwitches but two prove too useful whenever I go to remove one. Still, re-adding a Raider Captain give the Satyxis a little something extra. Eventually down the line I might add Wrongeye & Snapjaw however I already know what starcrossed is like from my Troll days playing Calandra. Overlords will probably make a test appearance as well at some point.

Just a thought, but swapping out the ILO+Seether basically alleviates the need for Warwitch Sirens, so you can get best of both worlds. I've never managed to play the ILO+Seether even though I like the idea of idea of it, especially with Scaverous, because you kind of want double WWS to really turn it up to 11 and at that point, you're paying more than for Deathjack. When you then compare it to WE&SJ, who cost 1 point less than even the basic module, it's hard to justify the package.

The Warwitch Sirens, while in the list to give the Seether additional "Oompf", and they do, aren't there strictly because of it. They're also in the list to aid Erebus so Scaverous is free to keep his focus/ souls for other things. Plus they clear out infantry/jammers at least some of the time (curse MA6). So in that sense they'd still exist in the list to some extent and therefore I don't factor them into the cost of the Iron Lich Overseer+ Seether combo.

I'll post my scavy list when I'm not on my phone, but the key to doing well with him is pick one plan (tabletop and list building) and stick with it.
Scavy wants to do a ton of things, but if you dont prioritize, you'll end up messing up a rube goldberg play, or clocking yourself.
