Just curious how everyone sees the meta changing with the implementation of SR 2017 and with whats been revealed? I personally dont think we will see too much shift. Maybe some assassin casters see some love but as far as list construction I dont see a reason to change. I personally would like to see the zones only be contested by the same types of models that can capture. I think that would shift lift builds to more of a combined arms feel with the freedom to still skew harder in one direction rather than just spam.

If I accurately read what they've spoiled so far, it looks like most lists will have a chance to catch up now and allows heavier, slower infantry to compete more freely. So more MOW shocktroopers will see play, which means I may well actually play steamroller and that I may well use them with a unit of bombadiers.

But MoWSTs already see play.
I think it will go a good way towards encouraging more combined arms lists. If you spam cheap infantry jack heavy lists won't be able to clear them easily out of zones, if you bring a gunline you can't contest infantry zones without risking getting your guns stabbed up.

But MoWSTs already see play. I'm aware of that fact, was more pointing out that with a steamroller that seemingly allows a larger number of slower models to be competitive, then shocktroopers will be seen in more diverse lists than just irusk1 and 2.

I still expect to see a huge shift in what kind of crowd SR attracts this time around. I'm expecting it be less cut-throat with more random elements involved for more of a "fun and interactive" type of game.

Agreed, if the new rules are as flexible as they currently appear to be, based on the previews given, then it will be something even I will use, as the current rules favor a very different type of model to the ones i like. :/

Infantry swarms are creeping back into the meta and catching some people off guard. Theme lists like Ghost Fleet and Operating Theatre are introducing heavy amounts of infantry. After a year or so of spamming jacks I can see a shift back to more balanced lists.

Im excited for the missions that have the different zones that can only be scored by specific unit types. Should be a super interesting change to the game.

I am hoping contesting is a thing of the past. So you and your opponent can only score. (Makes little difference but encourages combined arms)

That is exactly what i don't understand as fun "more randomness" It'll hardly be Warhammer levels but a bit of randomness is good. Replanning on the fly is fun. Besides which, I think he meant you won't be able to predict what everyone will be playing. Sincen the Una2 nerf theres not really any single caster you need to plan for which means more varied lists and opponents. More...random, one might say...

It's honestly hard to tell where the meta will be until the full SR packet is out. If contesting still works the way it currently does things might not change at all. Harkevich 10 Marauders might not be able to score half the zones, but if they can still park themselves in them and stop you from scoring the list will still have game. If Ghost Fleet all the Revenants will still be able to flood the Jack zones with dudes to keep you from scoring I don't envision myself changing my list much if at all. It's honestly going to depend on how easy it is to win on scenario and whether or not scoring a quick scenario lead and just turtling while contesting all zones until the round limit is hit will be viable or not.

They have already said that contesting has not changed in any meaningful way.
