[Theme] Band of Heroes (Madrak 2) Madrak Ironhide, World Ender [+28] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] - Dire Troll Mauler [15] Fell Caller Hero [0(5)] Stone Scribe Chronicler [4] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6] - Stone Scribe Elder [3] Trollkin Champions (min) [10] Trollkin Fennblades (max) [15] - Fennblade Officer and Drummer [5] Trollkin Fennblades (max) [15] - Fennblade Officer and Drummer [5] Trollkin Warders (min) [10] This list was promoted by Jason Flanzer. I ran it on 2 tournament now. It is a blast to play, but the clock is ticking too fast for me.

If you just take the army into the Band of Heroes theme, I don't think you lose anything, but you can get the Fell Caller for free. And +2" deploy, and the other benefits. But wow, I wouldn't want to play that on a clock. I have enough trouble with one unit of Fennblades in clock play.

Maddy2 - Mauler - Earthborn Min Stone + UA Max Fenns + UA Max Champs + Skaldi Max Kriel Warriors x2 At a glance you simply can not play such a list with no Fell Caller. I love the fact that you have all that mass of bodies, but the Fell Caller is simply mandatory to make your things work. MAT 6 Fennblades are bad against everything. MAT 8 ones are way better against infantry. Terrain is a thing even if you are not up against crickets. Pathfinder will be needed to get where you need to go. In short. some thing needs to go away for you to have the support your list needs to function. Playing this type of list with no fell caller feels like playing a PoD beast brick with no kriel stone. Opps, forgot to list the free Fell Caller from the theme benefit. I swear I'm not crazy

Fennblades have pathfinder for the turn that matters

Couldn't charge to get the relentless bonus due to feat, and then Halbs had me jammed up. When I did use pathfinder, hitting def 13 was apparently too tall of an order. I went into the game thinking Madrak would only have to wait out Kaylesa's feat turn and then mop up the Halbs with his feat, and start jamming scenario. This proved to be not the case. With repo on the halbs allowing for anti-feat spacing, Fenns not being able to hit anything with vengeance attacks that would have freed them up to get into back lines, rough terrain everywhere. I just couldn't seem to get to grips with the army. I finally got to feat effectively towards the end of the game, but it was irrelevant due to the scenario pressure I was under. Most importantly, I'll complain about anything!!! So there!

I suppose I could try to play Flanzer's list for some practice running troop swarms but I just don't like high model counts.
I can see how it could be strong in attrition for scenario play, though. Toe each zone with a Fenn or two. They have to kill those to score the zones, so you can Vengeance move and charge in with Blood Fury. This could present a quandary to the opponent, depending on what they have to work with.

With a fellcaller hitting def 13 should not be a problem. And did the halls just jam ?? As in no vengeance was triggered? And why did you not jam him

Hey guys tried this list out today, was fairly happy with the performance, Took on Kaya3 with Two Stalkers, 4 Scarsfell, A Gorax, 2 Blackclads and Wrong eye and Snap Jaw (perhaps forgot some stuff). Was a tough scenario win, but got first turn and played for scenario from the start. Sum of the game - We traded pieces as fens kill the birds easily when they arent under star crossed and fens have the mat buff from fell caller. So I just made sure to make him spread out so I could get onto them without being under Starcrossed and he had no choice but to give pieces for scenario. Traded the Mauler for Snapjaw and the other Mauler for 2 Birds (seemed worth) Ended 7-2. He had lost all birds, gorax, blackclads, WE and SJ. I Lost, 15ish Fens, 2 Maulers. My opponent played a solid game so yeah no massive mistakes on either party I think. This list seems very good into beast/jack lists/scenario play, as they have to come into fen threat ranges to contest and if they dont you just leave a couple in their threat range toeing a zone and get vengeance, and they cant afford to trade and we all know pow12 WMs kill beasts/jacks. Just gotta make sure you keep hot swapping Blood Fury every turn. Was a fun game and I felt like i was sitting behind a well oiled machine, which is rare for me to feel playing trolls.

Did you get any value/use out of the chronicler? And did you find that one fellcaller was enough?

I wish i played the chronicler more often, especially in the current meta where infantry exist. Having Heroes Tragedy on jamming fennblades is so incredibly fun. Either they leave your fennblades alive (awesome), or they kill some, and not only trigger vengeance, but also becoming knocked down, and thus perfect targets for the vengeance attacks. worked sooo well in MK2 at least

I was missing the second fell caller a lot. The chronicler ain't bad. Charge of the trolls with blood furied Champions is quite good.
the best change would be if the fenns would count towards the free points, so you could run double fenns, double fell caller, double chronicler

I agree with Robbe unfortunately missing the second fell caller wasnt much fun, the Chronicler didnt do much this game (as the opponent had no infantry to be KD and no shooting for concealment)
So I'd say its a toss up to bring double fellcaller or chronicler. For the other fellcaller we need to find a point, which will happen when CID changes come and DTEBs are 14 pts haha.

Trollock, I totally agree with your comment about treating the games like simulations of losing list chicken in a tournament. I have run into so many lists lately that seem to completely shut down what I built the list to do. But in more than half, I've then figured out a second strategy I hadn't thought of before that my list could pull off. That didn't lead to a lot of winning but it made the game interesting and with more practice, as I tend to switch lists every casual game, and a little luck would lead to more victories.

I have had a lot of fun with Maddy2 BoH. I don't play it much anymore because a lot of my meta ends up playing lists that stop me from charging GF, Axis, Rask etc. but I still think its really fun. Champs with bloodfury are beautiful, one of my favorite stories was when I took a lightly damaged helios off the table with 3 charging champs by stacking charge of trolls and stone aura on them.
My list was Maddy2 Mauler Axer Night Troll Fell Caller Hero SSC KSB(min)+UA Champs(Max)+Skaldi Warders(Max)+Sorcerer (alternatively 2x Min units) Fenns(Max)+UA
So I found toughalo lack threat (this seems to be changing) to be useful although pow 14 WM impact attacks were awesome when I pulled them off. I built this list to maximize free points so didn't think about KWs but Warders really help deliver the whole force they stop a lot of shooting, madrak can make them hit like a truck, and they can run to engage as a non-trivial roadblock as you prep your champions to charge and eat what they need to the next turn. The only things I dont' like about this list is the lack of a second Fell caller and the battle group.

Gave the double Kriel Warrior list one last try. It just doesn't work with one Fell Caller. Going to switch up the list and try something closer to the Flanzer build.
