I've lucked out mostly that my local meta lacks a lot of the current boogeymen like Ghost Fleet, but I did have a recent game against a Heavy Metal list and I really struggled against it. I know I wasn't playing an optimal list, since I'm running Legion of Steel but I'd still like some advice on how I can trade into such a strong jack heavy list in the future. What do you all do against Heavy Metal?

I play Nemo1 Heavy Metal - that's my favorite list. And I'll tell you right off - what kills me is weaponmaster infantry. If you can deliver some doom reavers, that heavy metal list is going to be very unhappy.

Shouln't legion of steel give heavy metal a good run for its money, the one time I played this match up it ended with an overwhelming victory for me.
We don't have much information to help you though. Which caster are you using, which was your opponent using?

I play Nemo1 Heavy Metal - that's my favorite list. And I'll tell you right off - what kills me is weaponmaster infantry. If you can deliver some doom reavers, that heavy metal list is going to be very unhappy. LOL! You damn troll.... Any way it depends what caster they are running and their jack setup really, since it's a pretty versatile theme. But in theory Legos should be a decent drop into it. I would feel pretty confident with a Strak2 Legos list going into most Heavy Metal setups. |

We were playing Recon 2. I'm really struggling with having to split my forces around the middle of the playing field, and I think that was part of the difficulty I had, but I wasn't able to trade effectively either way.

Why is that? With precision strike on pretty much ALL your infantry, even if you aren't scrapping a jack it should at the very least have no cortex after a few attacks... You units aren't particularly vulnerable to electro leaps, so swathes of them shouldn't be dying. Your opponent should just choke on all the infantry.

He definitely didn't choke on the infantry. He was able to get rid of my black dragons fairly easily and I couldn't do enough with them to remove his storm strider even with the help of a marauder. He was able to control both a flag and a zone almost the entire game while contesting my own zone to keep himself up on scenario points. The only thing I can think that I might have done really wrong is kept Irusk too far back, but given how strongly he was able to press into me on his feat turn, if I'd played much further forward I'd probably have lost much sooner. We played all the way up until turn 7 (or whatever the final turn is) which is why I think that if I can figure out a few tips I could beat him next time. |

Battle lusted pikes, BD or vanilla are dice -5 on 4 dice charges, and with IG you out threat them, you should be able to drop a cygnar heavy with 4 Pike charges on average.

Battle lusted pikes didn't do me much good that game. I got rid of Ol' Rowdy and an Ironclad and that was about it. |

I think if you're able to get your positioning right it would work out more in your favor, but doing so is the real challenge. I've been liking Legion of Steel very, very much, but I run only 2 jacks, double juggs, one unit of black dragons but then double Uhlans. The threat range and the power of the Uhlans, not to mention their resilience to damage has worked out really well for me. Your list is fine, maybe just need to practice the match a little more, but if you're looking to change, that's the list I run.
edit: with Iron flesh, a unit of Uhlans B2B with each other are ARM 21 with 5 boxes each, not bad...

Honestly unless your list is at a major disadvantage, list doesn't really have THAT much to do with winning a match up any way.
On paper it looks like your list should have the advantage in the pairing. So the question is what you and they did on the table. I mean a better player will usually just win any way by exploiting mistakes you make.

You shouldn't play LoS into Cygnar at all. Stryker 3 isn't even the worse that could happen and it still beat you.
