Hello kith and kriel,
So, I'm guessing a lot of your are in the same boat as me- never really consisered our artillery, but now that they're free in kriel company, you're giving them a second look. I mean, they've always looked pretty ok for the points, but there just never seems to be room for them in my lists.
Have any of you guys had these on the table? I'd love to hear you experience.

I own 3, yep 3 Thumpers, and one Pummeler. (Three Thumpers from an ol' MKII Theme list) Notes: The Thumper is one of the only ways to do 'Troll Bowling', slam a 40mm friendly into opposing models (alas, Momentum won't allow the slam of 50mm models). The advent of the Ambushing Pyg Lookouts may make the Thumper a decent HI-DEF debuff for any KD-able model (stupid Angelii), making 2 Bomber shots fully damage-boostable at 12" range. I originally got the Pummeler to use with Horgle2's Continuous Fire spell, but oops, Battle Group only Though Horgle's Solid Ground spell keeps the Thumper/Pummeler from too easy removal from enemy blast attacks. Ragnor can Earth's Sanctuary 'em too. The use of multiple 'free' Theme solos/Command Attachments has made the presence of opposing trooper/grunt models more and more common than during the initial MK3 roll-out. Often these are support models, hanging out in the opposing backfield. Perfect for arcing fire POW 10 blasts. However, if the Judicator is any example... Lucky Shot (Dozer&Smig) seems an appropriate animus for the Pummeler.

I'm a thumper fan because of the theme rules. Without a Mauler my KC lists often lack the ability to crack arm so I want the extra pow 16s rather than the infantry clearing help.
I always have the WW in those lists too, so I'll be able to knockdown without issue, repo out of melee and hit reliably.

Even when both cost 0 points, i prefer the thumper in almost any list build. I have magnetized mine though, so i COULD bring pummeleres if i absolutely wanted to.

I would only consider them in a list designed to clear large swathes of infantry and then I'd go with the pummeler every time. But that's just considering them. Not, in the end, bringing either.

Great insight, cheers! Yeah, I've assembled mine so they can be either (didn't even need magnets, just cut a little chunk out of the carriage so the gun slides in and out.)
I was leaning towards thumpers anyway, especially since they're for a grim2 list, and the snipe and accuracy bonus seem to synergize a lot better with them than it would with the pummelers.
So, has anybody found a spot where they feel pummelers actually work better?

I honestly don't believe so. Themes are the way to play and they're only available in KC with the War Wagon. The War Wagon is Soooo good it's in every KC list and is so bonkers against infantry that you don't need a pummeler also.

I've been really not wowed by the slamguns. I've found in the lists where I want to play them they are outpaced and don't really do much.

I have watched free Thumpers put decent sized holes in jacks and beasts of all sizes. paired with bombers they can put out some hurt. I really think they should be rat 6 base even considering in faction buffs.
Pummlers may become more popular as infantry themes become more prevalent. Grymkin for example will be putting lots of duded on the table that wont appreciate all those aoe's.

I am often relying on Bombers for infantry removal, and it is annoyingly common for the infanyry i actually see doesnt care about the blasts. Either thye have too high armor, or are immune completely. Pummelers suffer from that too i guess.

The reason why they won't get taken even when free is because there are too many other things that can be taken for free that trolls need to function. There's no way we're not going to spend free slots on stuff that doesn't bring essential buffs. edit: The only way you're going to get me to use free slots for combat models is if we get a theme that says "if you bring the stone you can take one free combat solo/unit" or something along those lines.

Whelps aren't eligible, Fell Caller doesn't mesh all that well with KC units, Braylen is okay if you can keep your Highwaymen alive long enough to make Backstab feasible. Free weapon crews are still decent value.
