After my recent defeat in my second game due to losing my only heavy beast when my opponent had 3 heavy jacks my brother decided I needed a mountain king and bought me one for my birthday. I'm having a little trouble getting the back to fit on the torso. I believe it's due to one of the rocks on the back catching on one on the torso.i could probably file the edge of the one but thought I'd ask here to see if y'all had any better wisdom that could help me.

The MK is pretty well known for having some egregious gaps. Fit it as best you can and start filling.

Not sure if this would work for the back piece but I had good luck using a hair dryer to heat up the loincloth on the Glacier King and soften it enough to fit the piece...it was terribly warped initially and had a huge gap. After heating it up I held it in place and used super cold tap water to set it once it had the right shape.
The back piece on the Mountain King looks pretty thick, but it still might be worth giving that a try before you start filing it away.

You can hopefully cut away a few choice edges to that it fits with only like a 3mm gap. Then it is greenstuff work all the way.
Pro tip on the GS work. Id first add a layer of green stuff that i would push in to the big gap, but push it further in than needed. Then you let that cure, and perhaps slather on some glue to boot so it sticks. Then you start filling in the gap for real, making a nice smooth visible line. If you do not have a "base" to build the filler line on it is way harder to get a nice finish. Therefore, doing it over two nights is way easier imo.

Thanks for the tips! I think I was able to close in the gaps pretty well. Paint is still very much wip so please excuse the mess.

It is more important to cover up the basecoat than avoiding one color to spalsh on to an area where you want another color. Right now you can see some gaps where there is white undercoat visible. Better fix that

You're totally fine to question me. I only started painting in the first week of June and comments from others help me get better! So thanks for helping me along! I just thought y'all might like to see the progress in case you don't venture into painting forums that often, that's where I've got all of my pictures.

I'm loving following along, although CID has me list building and checking this forum and CID more than the painting forum right now. I'm glad you dropped these pics in over here. :-)
I think this is by far your best model yet. I'm considering going for a similar Mountain look on mine after looking at yours. The dark brown looks great with your purple. I haven't come to a solid decision on the direction I'm gonna take with mine yet.

High contrast is key on miniatures. The mountains look better for sure.
Good work. :-)
