Just finished the book last night, quite enjoyed it. Then again, I'm a sucker for written depictions of in-game effects. I'm pretty much convinced that the first warcaster for the OGC is the leader, with his wife as a crazy combat solo. There was also an internal monologue of Stryker's talking about Magnus...first as a Traitor, then a Warlord, then a Patriot. Magnus3, Magnus the Patriot anyone?

I'm quite sure irusk was very wary of bombing the city unless he found out Andrei Malakov was inside. I mean I would have down the same. No ones like Malakov.

Wait... who the Firetruck builds a city on a motherFiretrucking volcano? Italy. A lot. Can confirm, I'm Italian. Romans just had their own god (Ephestus/Vulcanus) to please to keep the volcanos quiet. It didn't work that good with Pompei, but well... Now at least we have a perfectly lava-conservated Roman city there.

I agree, I also think we already have the name for the first OGC warcaster. The wife could either be another warcaster, a supersolo, or part of his own warcaster unit.

Yes, you are right. Pompeii is one of my favourite ancient sites. It was amazing to go there and see it in all its glory.

Wait... who the Firetruck builds a city on a motherFiretrucking volcano? Who said anyone specific built the city. More likely it started as a mine (for the blasting powder), then some miners wanted to cut their commute so built houses nearby. Then someone decided to build a pub and other service/victual providers. Then other people wanted to live close to the shops, so built their houses, and so on... End result is a city on a volcano, but probably no one went into it planning that. Also might help that it seems to be a pretty defensible position. Not necessarily a bad place to be during a rebellion against the Orgoth.

I thought the novel was fairly good. It did a good job of making the war a much more serious state of affairs : serious events happen in wars, and you can't always agree with your own side on their actions.
The introduction of the order of the golden crucible is interesting. I think there's a real niche being developed for their warcasters - the one that we meet being basically a "warcaster on tap" rather than permanent, and the problem with their warcaster serum being that it basically doesn't work in 99.9999% of cases, and when it does it's horrifically addictive and degenerative. And it also might turn normal people into monstrosities...
And Khador has the basic ingredients for it. I wouldn't want to be a test subject in khador.
Speaking of Khador, it was good to see the first hints of an expanded set of units. Assault kommandos (unit?) with the death whisper carbines, (armour piercing unit) and a unit of shock troopers with some sort of alchemical treated armour (in this case protected against electricity).

Christ a regular unit of AP guns would be terrifying. There was a lot of mentions of the Death Whisper carbines because they were dealing with Strakhov 3... he and his kommando escort are equipped with those.

Well, Convergence has it, but it isn't very popular.
