Someone posted a photo of the tier on Facebook and evidently one of the staffers was playing it at L&L.
Non character beasts Exalted model/units Extoller models/units Beast handler units Void spirits
Free solo or CA for every 20 points of exalted.etc
Beasts get death rage
Free soul for everyone with soultaker on first turn.
Seems pretty solid. Rumor at L&L is that it will be in CID in the next week or two.
My only thing is that you need to take 3 units and a guardian in order to get 3 free solos. Only leaves you 13 points + caster points for a BG less if you want extollers or void spirits.
What do you guys think?

What is Death Rage? And what are Viod Spirits doing here? Aside from that it's pretty much as expected. Small Battlegroups are nothing new with the Zaals, so I'm not worried here.

Death Rage. When a beast dies it gets to move 3 inches and make a basic melee attack ignoring free strikes and it's own crippled systems. Not a huge boost but not terrible either.
I think voids fall under skornes general life after death theme. They're like immortals except they're souls we're brought back from the void instead of saved in stones so they've gone a bit feral. I like their inclusion and they have my toying with mordikar in theme.
It let's you take despoiler to help crack armor and you can stack the UAs defensive buff with mordi's feat for defense 16 Imortals. Most of the army can also be ghostly or incorporeal to ignore terrain and free strikes. There's see serious skornergy though. Mordikar has no hollow targets other then handlers with also means he can't use despoilers free upkeep ability. He also can't get any souls from his army so he won't be doing alot of reviving or essence blasts. I guess it'll come down to wether or not high defense incorporeal spam with darkshroud can outweigh his wonky soul mechanics.
That and the fact that he's ADR with I think is more important for skorne then alot of people realize. We have so many strong support modules but they add up quick. Being able to swap around things like the krea and agonizer based on your matchup will be huge for skorne.

That's honestly a neat idea for his Feat. And if you're that soul-starved you could even get a max unit of PGBH just to fuel Mordikaar. And I'm holding up hope that when this theme goes into CID, Mordikaar could get that small push I think he needs.

I thought Immortals have Soul Vessel, which allows them to generate souls as if they were living.

That is correct. But Mordikaar's means of Soul Collection is through the spell Hollow, which targets living.

It's what I expected and what I was waiting for- I've been playing this: Zaal2 x3 Krea x1 Drake x2 max Immortals w/ UA x1 max Immortal x1 min Beast Handler x2 Ancestral Guardian Hakaar I only needed one more point to make long-desired improvements (swapping in a Cyclops Shaman). With this I can add one outright along with throwing in a third UA.

I want to like it, but the only units available are Immortals and Beast Handlers? That seems excessively limiting for anyone not Zaal2. Even if they opened it up to all Paingiver units (which Beast Handlers are) I'd be happy.

They said it should be going through CID in the near future. It may not get a full list but we may see some new exalted models with it as well. Plus theirs always room for future releases.

So I've been spitballing some stuff with this theme. Mainly what casters work with this theme besides the obvious choice of the Zaals. I will say that Zaal1 doesn't seem that great here, since he wants lots of cheap souls to power up his feat, and you don't get those in theme. But there were some interesting ideas I came up with looking at the list of casters:
Mordikaar: You can get a lot Void Spirits, and he makes those good. ARM debuff due to Despoiler is also possible. Downside is Hollow doesn't work on Immortals (or does it, since they have a living model in the CA?) and the feat is sort of wasted on DEF 10 guys. Rasheth: You get MAT fixing and ARM debuffs, plus a slight benefit to channeling through an immortal. Feat works well still. You can get a cloud wall if needed also, but I don't think that's the gameplan. Hexaris1: Again, MAT fixing, and a very good ARM debuff. You can also sneak odd places on feat turn with Immortals and get some very odd results for where the feat spreads. Hexaris2: Black Spot can get a lot of mileage from a unit, plus all the souls make sure you always have enough options for pulling for feat. Zaadesh2: ARM fixing, or a possible cloud wall to get a unit or two across the board unmolested. Feat is great with Immortals, since nobody wants to eat POW 15s on the way in. Xerxis1: Well, you have a lot warriors, and Xerxis makes them really good with feat, orders, and tactician. Tactical Supremacy could do some interesting things for Immortals or solos depending. And you get access to Tibbers. Xerxis2: IMO a less good version of Xerxis1 in this case. He can drag some beasts along very quickly, and Ignite helps but is roughly the same as Stir the Blood. Feat is okay in this case, but again not as good as Xerxis1 in this case. Tibbers is basically a wash. Morghoul3: Less bad than you'd expect. One unit of Immortals is stealthed, and another will apparition. Feat turn is sort of wasted though, since Immortals already do the feat effect for the low cost of a soul.
I think there might be some game into this theme even outside of the obvious, and I really want to see how it plays out on the table.

You can't leave zaal1 out of that list. Even starting out with one soul an immortals army has a ton of soul using models. His ability to keep the ancestral guard fueled easily all by himself counts for a lot. His last stand isn't ideal on immortals themselves, but it's still great on the guardians or a light beast missile. Death rage on a last standed beast would actually be awesome.

Ha. I hadn't thought of that interaction. As far as I know when Last Stand kills a beast and it death rages it will still have Last Stand on it. So fully boosted. Have to check the timing of that but my understanding is the spell only drops once you remove the model from the board.

Last Stand goes straight to destroyed, while Death Rage triggers on disabled.

I was thinking more along the lines of the enemy killing a beast with last stand on it, not the beast dieing to last stand
