I got in a test with my Asphyxious2 Dark Host list last night against Doomshaper1 with his Northkin army. While I'm happy with the list, I didn't have quite as much success. List is posted above somewhere, but in summary: Asphyxious 2, WE, double max warriors + UA, stalker, scavenger, and cankerworm.
To begin with, this match was a bit lopsided in my favor. Heavily armored trolls with negligible defense and no LOS fixing ability... vs armor breaking Banes that hide behind clouds and eat slow targets. The one thing he had majorly in his favor was cancelling out some revival and tough via snacking.
I was not able to hide completely behind or in my clouds early on, but it didn't matter much as it wasn't needed. I'm going to fix this by doing a few vassal tests to see where to deploy the 4" clouds and 3" cloud spam. Setting it at the full 20" doesn't quite work when going first because you end up in that awkward spot where you can't get completely in a cloud, but you also have to cut your movement short to stay behind it.
I lost the Bane Riders early due to a bear ambush, but quickly turned that around with the Stalker and Scavenger. I like this combination better than the double Stalker, as it allows the Stalker to injure + grievous wounds multiple targets, which the Scavenger then finishes off with what amounts to weaponmaster damage. The one downside is that they can't both operate at double control range.
Mountain King wiped out most of a Bane Warrior unit himself and forced Asphyxious back, but ended up dying for it.
Doomshaper's feat also kept Asphyxious far from the action, which was annoying. A simple Parasite could have cost me 3d6 damage. So I could never get Asphyxious close enough for a devastating feat turn.
Snacking was a pain, but I still had enough banes for mini-feats and main feat. Sadly, Cankerworm was crippled by Stranglehold on the turn that mattered. I also lost the Wraith Engine when I got it 1" too close to Mulg the Ancient, who killed it without using up even half his fury. Oh well, the aura was nice against the Mountain King's spray.
In the end, I had him on attrition, wiping out trolls faster than he could kill the Banes. With his ambush unit gone, Mountain King gone, Doomshaper in the center of the table without feat, and trolls surrounded by a still full unit of Bane Warriors, it was looking pretty good for me. Then time ran out at the top of turn 4. I'd burned my entire hour and lost by the clock while he still had about 10min left.
