Not a fan of the whole line (Skin & Moans, Piggybacks, and Neigh Slayers are generally disliked from photos), but was wanting to get a Hordes faction anyways (Already play Ret & Menoth). Meta already has somebody playing each other Hordes faction, Grymkin look interesting rules-wise and being a limited release means I can actually expect to own and paint all of it. Plus Hollowmen look absolutely amazing both model-wise and rules-wise, and completely sold me on the faction.

Most of the Warlocks and units look great to me. I'm feeling let down by the Beasts. If I'm going to play a Hordes army, I have to like the Beasts.

The more I think about the more I think I'm going to use them as my primary Company of Iron force. Seeing as the models I dislike the most are Skin and Moan, the battle engine, the Child, and the Dreamer I don't really lose out on anything by playing them as only a CoI force. Gives me a chance to paint up Hollowmen, Murder Crows, Rattlers and solos.

I'm going to stay as far as I can from what I see, IMO, as the worse desing PP ever did. +1 for me, I find it surprising how many people love the models. Maybe in a different game but they just feel so out-of-place in this universe to me. Oh well, to each his own... I appreciate having different new opponents even if I have no personal interest in them.

I love the feel of the faction, I also love the model line (skin and moans is kind of meh I wish I could find an alternate sculpt that looked more like a rattler.) But honestly I think they are one of those factions that has a design and aesthetic that either repulses you, or fascinates you. They seem to be pretty polarizing.

They literally don't come from the same dimension as the other factions If they looked like everyone else then they failed their fluff.

It's a funny kind of discussion, and you see it so often.
"They look out of place" -> "They are supposed to look out of place!" "They look ugly" -> "They are supposed to look ugly!"
To me this is entirely missing the point. If I don't like them, "supposed to" doesn't matter. I really doubt PP intended to make models that nobody wants to buy. So they can sit and go "Nobody is buying Grymkin because they think they look ugly and out of place. Yes! That means we succeeded in our goal of not selling any Grymkin!" *high fives all round*

I think Skorne look derpy as Firetruck. That means I don't buy them. PP doesn't need to change around Skorne to make me think they are awesome and aren't ruining the coolest civilisations around (Persia and Rome).

Honestly I love the look and feel of the grymkin. Evil fairy tale creatures are right up my alley of interest and I think fit just fine in a world with undead, elves, trolls, etc. I wont be buying them because I am already buying and supporting 3 armies, so no room for more.

I'm sure they do - which is why the sensible response to "I think they look ugly" is "I think they look awesome" (if that is your opinion). Not "They are supposed to look ugly".

"look ugly" is a hell of a phrase. I disagree entirely. They are supposed to look otherworldly.

Sure. And the poster you were replying to, to be honest, didn't say he thought they looked ugly. He said that he thought they looked out of place, and implied that he didn't love them for that reason.
I guess what I am trying to discuss is the idea that not liking something aesthetically can be remedied by explanations about motivation.
Like if I walk into a gallery and think "Oh my god, this art is terrible", and I want to leave, but then my friend grabs me and goes "Wait! Let me explain what the intention of the artist is. You are supposed to feel that the art is terrible, but that is because your feeling is actually part of the artwork. That the art is terrible makes it beautiful."
Then should I go "OK, I get it now! Cool!"? Or should I go "Well, the art is still terrible, so since I don't enjoy looking at it, I'm going to leave".
As I was trying to say, I fall more into the second category. Clearly, for the poster you replied to, "out of place" means "bad". You were replying that since it was intentional, it must mean "good". PP must have seen "out of place" as "good", otherwise they wouldn't intentionally have made them look out of place.
I acknowledge that it is possible that thirdorbital will find this argument convincing, and go "Hmm... if PP thinks it's good since they did it intentionally, now I understand the motivation, I actually think they look awesome". But I don't think the argument is that convincing myself. If something just isn't appealing, having the reasons behind it explained to you can't automatically make it appealing.

I thought about picking them up, but then I saw the Crucible Guard Rocketmen in the L&L keynote and I thought "Man, if the rest of the faction keeps that aesthethic, I'm all in." So I won't be picking Grymkin up.
Except maybe for Company of Iron, if the rules are good. I already have solid ideas for three warbands (Circle/Dwarfs/Farrow), but it sounds way easier to splurge for a 20-25 pt warband than an army. Time will tell
