Good start! The colors on the feralgeist are a little bit muddy but a couple of highlights should straighten that out fairly quickly. The armor on the Troll looks very good for just starting out. Same deal with this, a couple of quick highlights will take it to the next level. The extremely white eyes on the Troll freak me out a little bit though. Don't get discouraged by the feedback, they're really good starts and can easily be taken to the next level.
A quick tip for highlighting is to use the side of the brush instead of the tip to paint raised details. It needs a little bit of a delicate touch but it is a good skill to learn.

Awesome, I appreciate the feedback! I was considering highlighting but I wasn't sure what color I would use on the armor just yet, I used glorious gold with an umber wash. I might try the Vallejo glacier blue for that on the feralgeist, it's the color I used for the eyes on the troll. I'll work on them later and take some more pictures

The feralgeist looks 1,000% better! The trolls are getting there, I like the color combinations. One of the hardest parts about painting minis and posting them online is the camera compresses the tones and shades so subtle shading and highlighting has a tendency to disappear in photos. It's funny that you actually have to paint starker contrasts if you plan on sharing your work online to get it show up. Have you looked at Trollock's work on the PP painting and modeling forum? He's one of my favorite painters there and he used to be really active. If you get a chance, look how he does his shading and highlighting.

I had seen trollock's work but it's been a little while so I'll take another look at some point before I start my next models. I never knew that about cameras but it definitely makes sense just not something I think about. I'll have to see about getting a brighter gold I did the base in Vallejo glorious gold, the wash with their umber wash and then used polished gold for the highlight but those are the only two golds my brother and I had and I thought it would do the trick. Thanks again for the feedback, I'll keep posting any changes and new models! I'm having way more fun than I initially thought I would just painting them, I haven't even played yet.

I like it! The depth on your colors has improved and looks much better. I'm looking forward to seeing an army shot of all your completed models one day.

Hi,
they are not finished! They need basing. Add even some basic sand+static grass and see how even such simple models of a painting newbie look much better when finished with a proper base.
Bases are the easiest way of turning poor models into good looking ones, especially from the gamer's perspective.

Agreed (bases). They are like new tires that make older cars look far better.
If you'd like suggestions, I'd say pushing the washes (or grey-lining or brown-lining for increased separation), followed by a further highlight would bring these guys up to a 6 or 7 / 10. Very promising so far, though!

You're right they aren't complete yet I had planned to do bases after I finished painting the army. I have some gravel flock and snow flock but no grass yet. I was also thinking of making some blue crystals using borax and food coloring to have some ice to put on a few.

Also what exactly do you mean by brown-lining and grey-lining? Is that kind of like the panel lining on gundams?

Finished painting the bodies of my fell caller hero and stone scribe chronicler. Trying to the the figures on the scroll was tough with my brush so I broke a toothpick to try getting a finer and firmer point, not sure if there's a better way but it's what I had.

It looks good! I really like the freehand on the scroll. That's a nice touch.

Also what exactly do you mean by brown-lining and grey-lining? Is that kind of like the panel lining on gundams? Yep. Some folks would call it "blacklining", but that's too harsh IMO. (I imagine a coloring book with thick black lines delineating objects.) Reaper makes grey and brown "liner" drop bottles (at least they used to). Inky stuff. Tracing the edges where colors meet or creases exist with a dark color (e.g. brown for golds and leather, grey for steel, etc.) keeps them separated and more visible / striking on a tiny mini. Sort of like a more targeted wash. But you get it, based on your example, so I'll stop pontificating.
