It looks good! I really like the freehand on the scroll. That's a nice touch. Agreed. Excellent!

Ok cool I'll look at reapers stuff then, I have a brown and grey panel lining pen from my fundamental stuff but I'm not sure how well they'd work.

While not trolls these two were the last part of my list to try to help cover the advance. Now all that's left is to base and clear coat, any recommendations on a good clear coat? Also should I clear coat before or after doing bases?

So I hadn't completely finished the bases on the trolls as I got distracted painting/basin a small blood bowl team but I took my trolls to the closest FLGS that plays and one my first game ever despite some mistakes and misunderstandings. I took two pictures of my whole painted list so thought I'd share!

Browsing this thread from the start, it's clear that your painting skills are improving very rapidly. That mountain king looks great. Keep it up!
One bit of advice would be to keep trying to push your contrasts. As you get better at highlighting and shading, you start to find that you can push the shadows darker and the highlights brighter, making the figure look better - contrast is naturally pleasing to the eye and helps us resolve the physical shapes that we are looking at, making the mini "pop" better. The thing is that past a certain point you need to soften the transitions between the different shades using layering or blending to make it look natural, which of course requires more skill and time, which is why I say that it's something you should push as you improve (and not try to blend between black and white right at the start). Start practicing with brighter highlights but using intermediate shades, etc.
Well, like I said it's more time consuming, so it's perfectly fine to decide that you are happy with your current balance of "time spent : quality achieved" if it lets you get the models you want painted and on the table at a speed you are happy with. Maybe just try it on "more important" models that you care more about the appearance of, such as your warlocks.
