I decided to get back to painting models. Some of you may remember my well painted armies from years past. I was quite fond and prolific but my energy to paint faded with my lack of game time.
Anyway, last night I picked up a few of Wizkids pre-primes d&d models on a whim. I’d like to get around to painting a bunch of fantasy stuff like that. Especially big monsters. I’m definitely going to get my hands on some dragons. Painting warbeasts was some of the most fun I had painting.

So... I just saw Endgame. The nice thing about watching some movies in 3D is that the glasses help hide the tears.

I hate 3d glasses.

My friend watched Endgame a couple of days ago in 2D, and then watched it with me today in 3D. He said that that he liked the movie the first time, but loved it the second. So I guess the 3D contributed in this case. Personally I thought the 3D was well done.
Do you hate 3D in general, do you hate it in cinemas because they usually project 3D movies too dark, or because they often don't offer the cheaper 2D option in favour of 3D, or do you just not find the glasses comfortable?

Endgame was awesome. I'm very happy with it. I would change a couple things probably but that's always the case. All in all though it was awesome. A fitting end to the saga. Now the wait for Sunday night and the Battle of Winterfell.

3D is a ridiculous gimmick. It doesn't increase movie sales. There's a portion of the population that actively dislikes it, and it requires movie directors to make choices in a film that facilitate 3D and not necessarily facilitate the narrative and setting. I'd say it's on its way out already, but I've had kids for the past four years so I'm not a good judge on frequency of instances of 3D in film.

I've only seen one film where I thought 3D was worth it; Dredd, back in 2012, where they used it to really push the sense of scale and vertigo from the high-rise apartments.
That aside, yeah, wouldn't care if it stopped being a thing

I've only seen one film where I thought 3D was worth it; Dredd, back in 2012, where they used it to really push the sense of scale and vertigo from the high-rise apartments. That was probably the first live-action film I saw that I felt really benefitted from 3D. There's been a number of animated films where I felt 3D subtly added to the immersion; I remember thinking that in Kung Fu Panda 2 for example. Despicable Me 2 had some cute tricks that relied on 3D in it's credit sequence, that was quite amusing. Recently I've found live-action 3D films to be generally better than in previous years and have felt it does occasionally contribute, mainly in films that feature beautiful landscape shots and that sort of thing. I remember feeling that it worked well in Scyscraper, giving the shots of the Rock leaping and swinging and hanging on more impact than they would have had in 2D. It doesn't increase cinema attendance, but it does allow them to charge more for a "premium" product, while still running 2D screens to avoid losing out on the potential customers who don't like or aren't willing to pay extra for 3D.

I only go to 3D movies when the normal ones are sold out. 😆

I did it. I saw Avengers: Endgame. Spoiler alert -- if you leave Avengers: Endgame out of the refrigerator for more than a couple of days it will start to go bad.

I’ve just been sitting around not replying lately, not sure why.
Anyway: after seeing Endgame (Avengers, not Highlander) I realize that I never have to see another movie ever again. Sure, I can choose to do so, but there is really no way anyone could make anything better, so hey, pressure’s off.
Also, I bought a Switch a week ago and still haven’t opened it. I don’t know why. I guess I was waiting for buyer’s remorse to set in (or some paranoid unexpected expense like a car exploding or whatever) before I used it, but maybe there’s nothing wrong with simply buying something that I will enjoy.
Plus, you know, beating the ever-loving crap out of my kids in a video game is fun too. (The older one deserves it, that doofus.) Heck, for the first time in probably 15 years, I’m imagining having my friends over for a game day like we used to Lo those many years ago.
(I wonder if I can still completely kick their asses in Starcraft and Warcraft 3...? Oh who am I kidding, of course I can! I was beating them at 4-on-1 then, why not now. Seriously: FOUR ON ONE in Warcraft 3 and it was only moderately challenging for me to win, good god man.)
Anyway I got Smash Bros for me, Let’s Go Eevee for my human female life companion, and I just about bought Breath of the Wild but honestly if I did that I’d never get anything painted, so maybe later this year.
Blah blah blah etc. whatever.

I’ve seen Endgame twice now and am going again tomorrow. It’s not my favourite MCU film but it’s top 3.
Go enjoy your Switch, Michael! Let’s GO Eevee was the right choice.
