So, we already have a thread where we complain that the new WW is not strong or cool enough. I for one will try it out on the table (and submit constructive feedback) as well as complain
I looked through all the casters and listed some synergies that were at least interesting. I doubt you will get a competitive list with a WW right now, since you will play outside theme, but with a nifty theme that allows for it, i think we may be golden. Here is a list of potential synergies that one could think about...
Borka 1
Only the feat really. Not very strong.
Borka 2
You can give it cold immunity to have the feat work on it. It also allows you to have a module that can score a rectangular zone while staying outside Borkas puny control area. Not very strong though.
Calandra
She makes everything good. She helps it to hit and to do damage AND she can use Befuddle to move an enemy model near the enemy caster (and turn it around). Then the WW can shoot said model and knock down the caster. The threat range for this is pretty short, but since we are playing outside theme you could use Bone Grinders to extend it. We are pretty deep in the jank-tank here but its fun! Add in Braylen and Highwaymen and you have a list built around Befuddle. Oh, and a War wagon CAN actually use Dodge. Not saying it is good, but you CAN use it
Gunnbjorn
Probably the strongest option. He has no objections to bringing D&S, so your WW gets extra accuracy. He can also give it snipe for extreme threat range. The feat and Rock Wall are not bad either, though they are not super synergistic with the WW per se.
Grim 1
He can help the WW hit and thus knock down a swathe of infantry for control. The feat together with the reposition can protect it from melee for a round. Return fire means no one will probably try and shoot the WW, since having your stuff knocked down on your turn (even if the chance is low) is probably game over. This seems remarkably strong tbh, much more so than i first thought.
Grim 2
Very strong option here. He can make it shoot further, much more accurately and hit harder. He can even give it apparition if you want to (but you probably dont). He is also not really in love with the current theme forces, so it feels like you are not giving up as much for playing him outside theme. He works with Sluggers and HWM and those dudes, so the list you build with a WW might not be significantly weaker than a "normal" list for him.
Grissel 1
She can make it move back 10" after having fired. She can speed it up for a charge. She can make it hit more accurately with Calamity. Seems remarkably strong to me!
Grissel 2
Not a very strong option imo. Her spells do not really work for it, and she can already knock down things in spades. The feat does not really help it either.
Doomy 1
Fortune and Rampager can allow it to do the same trick as calandra and Befuddle. Removing upkeeps can semi-buff accuracy and damage. Does not seem super strong, but better than i had initially assumed perhaps.
Doomy 2
Does nothing for it really. Playing him outside theme allows you to bring Rök, but i think you are stretching if you call that a synergy...
Doomy 3
Probably even worse than Doomy 2 here.
Horgle 2
Surprisingly strong id say. It is a reasonable target for Inviolable Resolve, the feat makes it hit harder and solid ground protects your guys from accidentally being knocked down or blasted. He could punch it twice to trigger his chain attack too, just like a King. He too works well with our shooty infantry, so he is not as bummed as many others that he can not play in theme.
Jarl
The WW can be seen through the feat, and it is not really helped by Jarls spells. Also Jarl is unplayable garbage outside PoD imo... Next!
Madrak 1
Super long threat range on the feat turn, but still does not seem strong.
Madrak 2
Overtaking Berserking War Wagon FTW! No seriously... Next!
Madrak 3
Fortune to fix hit, Spell Piercer if needed and some "free points" if you do not bring a stone. Before the PoD craze i built a M3 list with "purification shooting" with Bombers and a Thumper to help them hit. The WW can probably be played in the same set up, and with better threat range. Not super strong, but nothing seems super strong with this guy...
Ragnor
A beefy model that becomes really hard to kill from the feat and that threatens a long way unaided. Doesnt seem particularly strong though.
My first list
I decided to bring out Horgle 2 for my first attempt and ended up with this iteration:
(Horgle 2) Horgle, the Anvil [+29]
- Dire Troll Bomber [19]
- Dire Troll Mauler [15]
- Troll Axer [10]
- Trollkin Runebearer [4]
Stone Scribe Chronicler [4]
Swamp Gobber Chef [1]
Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (min) [6]
- Stone Scribe Elder [3]
Trollkin Highwaymen (max) [15]
Trollkin Sluggers (max) [10]
Trollkin War Wagon (CID) [17]
Nothing fancy, and no super interactions but it looks pretty cool. I was debating dropping the stone attachment and chef for Lanyssa, to have really sweet threat range on the Mauler on the feat turn (where Rage is not needed). This means the entire list would threaten to strike pretty deep if one was not careful, and on the feat turn, this list is VERY good at clearing lanes to important stuff just by having the Runebearer lob a 4" boosted AoE and the highwaymen combine in to key models. Then you can light things up with the Bomber and have the Mauler and/or WW go in and finish off something big. The WW could do 2 Boosted POW 14s (charge and impact) followed by a boosted POW 12 and a Boosted POW 16 from the shooting. This will not quite finish off the average heavy, but together with the boosted POW 16 from the Bomber (to light it up) you should be close at least... And ARM 23 with 38 boxes is a thing i bet.
So, how will YOU play test the new and improved WW?
